Kim Ha Neul is in strong consideration to act alongside Jang Dong Gun, who will be making his first small screen come back in 12 years for the new SBS drama "A Gentleman's Dignity." Things are not confirmed yet but it is reported that Kim Ha Neul is positively thinking about joining the cast.

When Jang Dong Gun's casting was not confirmed, many other actors were considered such as Kim Myung Min and Joo Jin Mo. The first episode was supposed to air in March but has now been pushed back to May. Jang Dong Gun, who recently finished filming overseas, was won over by writer Kim Eun Sook, who continuously asked him to join the cast.

Lee Na Young was strongly considered in the beginning, but she was not able to join due to time conflicts. Kim Eun Sook then made love calls to Kim Ha Neul, who acted in Kim Eun Sook's past drama, "On Air" in 2008.

Kim Ha Neul is receiving a lot of love these days and is being called the "Queen of Romantic Comedies." She also won awards for her movie, "Blind" last year, which made people acknowledge her acting skills as well. For these reasons, people say that she is well-suited to act alongside Jang Dong Gun.

It has been reported that actor Yoo Seung Ho (19) injured himself while filming for his new drama.

At a press conference for TV Chosun‘s ‘Operation Proposal‘ that took place at the Ramada Hotel in Seoul on January 31st, the actor remarked, “I hurt both my heel and my wrist while filming the drama. Thankfully my heel has healed completely, but my wrist is still recovering so it’s a little uncomfortable when filming.”

In this particular drama, the actor plays the role of Kang Baek Ho, a man who realizes a little too late that he is in love with his friend, and is full of regret when he attends her wedding. Baek Ho who is a professional baseball player goes back in time to rekindle his first love.

The actor who plays a character that is bright and optimistic but passive when it comes to love has injured himself twice already while filming this drama series.

“There was a scene where I sneaked out of class. It was really cold that day and i didn’t realize how high the fence was at the school. I twisted my foot in a awkward position and hurt my heel, but it’s much better now,” he explained. “I continued to film with my injured foot, but then I happened to injure my wrist too. I play the role of a baseball player, so its a little hard when I have to throw the baseball. My wrist hurts a lot when I have to film those scenes.”

TV Chosun’s ‘Operation Proposal’ is a spin-off of the popular Japanese melo-fantasy drama that Yamashita Tomohisa and Nagasawa Masami were in, and Yoo Seung Ho plays the male lead while Park Eun Bin plays the female lead. The first episode airs on February 8th.

Jang Dong Gun will make his first come back to TV drama in 12 years through SBS’s upcoming series, “A Gentleman’s Dignity.”

According to a Press Release posted by Oricon on January 30th, Lee Seung Gi revealed at a press conference in Japan on the same day, “My first single, the Japanese version of “Alone in Love” will be released on March 6th, and I am also planning on a performance at Nippon Budokan in June.”

The official website of BIFF showed that "Hindsight" will be screened under the category of Culinary Cinema 2012 at the 62nd edition of BIFF to be held in Berlin, Germany from February 9 to 19.

A press release by Mersenne stated that Kim wrote the script to "Harmony of the Winds" (translated title)and will also serve as the chief director to it.

MBC’s preparing another big-budget special production sageuk drama, titled God of War, to occupy weekends starting next month, and recently released a full set of promotional posters.

The drama is set in the Goryeo (Koryo) era, which preceded the Joseon Dynasty (Goryeo spanned 918–1392) and stars Kim Joo-hyuk as a man named Kim Joon who was born to the slave class and rose to power. He’s based on a real historical figure, and in several of the posters below his tagline reads, “I’ll break the chains of fate. From slave to the height of power!”

Also in its cast are actors Kim Gyu-ri (Portrait of a Beauty), Jung Bo-seok (Can You Hear My Heart, Park Sang-min (Giant). Kim Gyu-ri plays the granddaughter to the most powerful man at the time, and daughter to Jung Bo-seok. It’s love at first sight — or maybe it’s attraction — when she spots Kim Joo-hyuk.

MBC recently announced the timeslot for the drama, which was a bit of a surprise: It airs on Saturdays and Sundays at 8:40 pm, apparently making it the first sageuk to air in that timeslot. There was a bit of a disgruntled reaction from some quarters, since God of War is being touted as a blockbuster period drama and that hour is usually home to contemporary family shows. The bigger productions take up the 10 pm hour, and with God of War’s 25 billion won budget, they were probably expecting a grander timeslot.

There’s also the understanding that shows that air earlier are home to more family-friendly content, not blood and guts and battle. I wonder if this shift is an attempt to grab a new audience, or a blunder by the broadcaster. You never can tell with MBC.

Well, I can’t say I’m terribly intrigued; it sounds like most sageuk dramas, really. Which could be a great thing if you’re a sageuk buff. I don’t really care for Kim Gyu-ri, but I do have newfound appreciation for Kim Joo-hyuk after his SNL stint, where he was fabulous.

God of War is written by Lee Hwan-kyung (of sageuks Tears of the Dragon and Wild Days), and directed by Kim Jin-min of Road No. 1 and La Dolce Vita. It premieres on February 11 and will run for 50 episodes.

MBC’s “The Moon that Embraces the Sun” set another personal record for viewership ratings with yesterday’s episode, achieving 24.9% (AGB Nielsen). The fifth episode was a tearjerker as Yeonwoo (Kim Yoo Jung) was cursed and fell ill, eventually getting kicked out of the palace.

As she suffered through her illness, her father, mother, and brother were flooded sadness and helplessness as no doctor could diagnose her disease. The drama has had a difficult time securing its male lead. There have been several reports in the past about Lee Byung Heon, Jo In Sung and Cha Seung Won as the possible lead, but none of them had been confirmed. As such, many fans expressed their doubts about Lee Seung Gi joining the cast. This news comes as a downer to both Lee Seung Gi and the drama's fans.

China loves Lee Min Ho! On January 14, the actor appeared on a Hunan Satellite TV's variety program called "Happy Camp." This New Year's special episode featuring Lee Min Ho took the number one viewership spot throughout China, and was also the highest rated program in the past two years.

"Happy Camp" is a variety show that's been on air since 1997, and has featured celebrities from Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan. During the episode, the guest participates in interviews and games. The ratings for this episode bested the ratings for last year's "national" (in China) drama, "Startling by Each Step." The final episode of that drama took a 1.93% viewership. Compare that with Lee Min Ho's show which took 6.49%, according to the Chinese audience survey system, CSM27.

The producers of the show were so happy that they even wrote on their social networking site, "We got a 6.49% viewership thanks to Lee Min Ho!".

On January 17th, it was announced that Yoshinaga Fumi’s manga ‘Ooku’ will receive two live-action adaptations: it’ll be picked up for a movie once again, and will also have a TV drama for the first time.

Set in the world where the roles of men and women are switched, this drama (titled “Ooku (Arikoto – Iemitsu Hen)”), will be broadcasted via TBS starting in October. The 2010 film with Ninomiya Kazunari and Shibasaki Koh only covered the first volumes with Mizuno Yunoshin and Tokugawa Yoshimune. However, this drama is said to cover volumes two to four of the manga.

Actor Sakai Masato was revealed to have accepted two roles for these upcoming works. Sakai’s first role will be in the drama, where he will play ‘Arikoto‘, while actress Tabe Mikako plays ‘Tokugawa Iemitsu‘.

The movie, or “Ooku (Emonnosuke – Tsunayoshi Hen)”, will immediately follow the last episode of the drama and will begin playing in theaters on December 22nd. This film will be based on volumes four through six of the manga. Sakai will play Emonnosuke as well as Arikoto, while actress Kanno Miho will play Tokugawa Tsunayoshi.

Director Kaneko Fuminori will take on the role as the director of this franchise once again, and the script will be written by Kamiyama Yumiko.

The rest of the cast will be announced in July.

Various news sources are reporting on an Internet post made by a young man who lost his wallet-- and the good-deed done by actor Lee Bum Soo. This past Christmas Eve, the man went to COEX shopping mall in Seoul to see a movie.

After the movie, he realized that his wallet was missing and spent the next two hours searching around the movie theater. During his search, he discovered a note that read, "If you lost your wallet, call the number below."

The man dialed the number and arranged to meet the author of the note. As a token of his appreciation, he brought a box of red ginseng rice cakes with him.

However, imagine his surprise when none other than Lee Bum Soo showed up with his missing wallet. As someone who had lost his wallet before, Lee Beom Soo left the note in an attempt to find the wallet's owner.

The young man also tried to give the actor a gift card that was in his wallet, but he was refused. The young man wrote that he felt he truly received a Christmas present that day.

Netizens were touched by the story and noted that Lee Bum Soo was a kind-hearted person and that it's quite hard to get your wallet back if you lost it.

SISTAR‘s Hyorin and T-ara‘s Jiyeon who have been cast in the new ‘Dream High 2‘ drama expressed the need for special laws protecting minors in the entertainment industry.

At the ‘Dream High 2‘ press conference that was held at the Imperial Palace Hotel in Seoul on January 17th, Jiyeon remarked, “In the drama, there are special laws protecting minors in the entertainment industry, and I wish those laws existed in reality.”

In the drama series, there are laws that protect under-age celebrities, making it illegal for minors to work more than 30 hours at a time, and those who are not enrolled in school are forbidden from even becoming a celebrity.

Practices and TV appearances are forbidden after 10PM, and under-age minors are also required to attend 20 hours of classes on a weekly basis.

The ‘special laws’ in the drama series apply to hot fictional idol group HUSH & EDEN who need to transfer schools, and the same laws also apply to them when they are in Japan.

T-ara’s Jiyeon was born in 1993, and she is currently a high school student. She added, “I want to attend school with my friends, and want some time for myself. I like being a celebrity, but I do feel I need a break from time to time.”

Actor Jo Dong-hyuk has been diagnosed with the influenza A (H1N1) virus just days before the KBS drama “Brain” comes to an end on Jan. 17.

“Jo Dong-hyuk was diagnosed with influenza on Jan. 16, and so we have cleared his schedule in order for him to get some rest. Currently, he is recuperating in his home,” a representative from the star’s agency, Namoo Actors, said. The agency also praised the actor for his strong work ethic and commitment to the Monday- and Tuesday-night drama, despite being sick.

According to the representative, the 34-year-old actor had been suffering from a high fever but still managed to go ahead with the filming of the final episode. The actor went to see a doctor following an early-morning shoot on Jan. 16 and was confirmed to have the flu.

Earlier today, the cast of “Dream High 2” gathered at the Imperial Palace Hotel in Seoul for the press conference for their upcoming drama.

During the press conference, 2AM's Jin Woon stated, "It's my first time acting, and I'm a bit awkward. However, everyone around me has been helping me, so I'm slowly trying to get the hang of it." When asked if he would accept a role for the third season if there is to be one, he asnwered, "I would be grateful if I would get another opportunity to act. Park Jin Young reprises his role as one of the teachers at Kirin Arts High School, which is in dire financial situation and in danger of shutting down. Park Jin Young confessed, "To be honest, when I was nominated for the '2011 KBS Drama Awards' Rookie Actor Award, I figured I would get it because I was in the midst of filming 'Dream High 2.' Moon Chae Won has decided not to be cast in SBS TV’s upcoming drama, “Rooftop Prince.”

On January 16, Moon’s agency revealed through a TV report, “We’ve been reviewing the script for drama ‘Rooftop Prince,’ but have made the final decision not to cast in it.”

An official explained the reason, saying that “after reading the script, we realized that the drama is more sageuk-related than we thought. We decided not to take the role because we wanted to avoid keeping a sageuk image [for Moon], through her recent projects “The Princess’s Man” and "Arrow: The Ultimate Weapon."

A representative from the production staff spoke with TV Daily on January 16th and revealed, ”Although details haven’t been confirmed yet, KBS has expressed their wish to air ‘Love Rain’ in March. On January 14th, GACKT’s Hollywood debut movie “BUNRAKU” was released in Japan. Despite his busy schedule, GACKT appeared for a stage greeting to promote the movie.

“BUNRAKU” is a martial-arts action movie directed by Guy Moshe. GACKT plays a Samurai,”Yoshi”, who becomes partners with a drifter played by Josh Hartnett.

During the stage greeting, GACKT revealed how rough the filming was. According to GACKT, he fainted, hitting his head during an action scene with Josh. He was then transferred to the hospital by ambulance. Not only fainting, he also had an extremely high fever, and broke his several teeth.

GACKT said, “In my whole life, I’ve never thought that I could not accomplish something, but during the filming, I had a feeling that ‘I might give up on this’ for the first time.” He also said, “The expectation of the directer was quite big, including toward my action skills, so I wanted to meet the expectation, and wanted to make a great work. Thus, I decided to do things as best as I could. To be honest, I was glad I did not get injured anything worse than those.”

When asked if there is any plan to make an appearance on another Hollywood movie, GACKT answered, “Hmm…I can’t tell exactly yet, but if my schedule matches and as long as it’s interesting, I would like to appear on any movie not only Hollywood movies, but also Japanese movies. I’m sure I would be able to show something interesting to the fans.” About the character he would like to play, “I’ve always thought that I wanted to express insanity, but comedy might be interesting too. Today, a preview screening of the upcoming movie and continuation of ‘Shinzanmono‘ (TBS drama), “Kirin no Tsubasa“, was held in Tokyo.

Just like the drama and the drama special, “Kirin no Tsubasa” is based on the popular ‘Kaga Kyoichiro‘ novel series by famed author Higashino Keigo. The screening was attended by lead actor Abe Hiroshi, as well as some of his new castmates for the movie – Aragaki Yui, Tanaka Rena, Matsuzaka Tori, and Miura Takahiro. Singer JUJU, who provides the theme song for the movie, also appeared at the event.

In the movie, Kaga Kyoichiro (Abe) will have to unravel a complicated murder case that happened right in front of the statue of the winged giraffe in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.

This year is a very special year for Abe, since he was born in the year of the dragon. He vowed, “My first goal this year is to make this movie a success. Then I want to challenge embarrassing things, like taking off my clothes (laughs), without hesitation.” The latter was referring to his other upcoming movie, “Thermae Romae“.

Aragaki and Matsuzaka, both born in 1988, also share the Chinese zodiac sign of the dragon.

“My body has gotten a bit out of shape due to my love for anything made with animal fat, therefore I’d like to change my eating habits first,” said Aragaki. “It’s just way too muddled inside my stomach. By working out and eating more vegetables, I want to become more beautiful from the inside out.”

Matsuzaka made a comment full of ambition. He said, “I never want to catch a cold, that’s what I will devote myself to everyday. It would be great if I could rise like a dragon this year.”

Meanwhile, Tanaka is going approach the critical age of a woman and an unlucky year by turning 32 this year. “However,” she said, “it’s said that for actors the critical years are the best.”

“Speaking of which, I filmed ‘Kekkon Dekinai Otoko‘ during my unlucky year,” Abe agreed. Tanaka smiled, “So it will be ‘Kekkon Dekinai Onna’ for me then…”

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (‘MOGEF‘) have just revealed their first batch of ‘dangerous material’ for 2012.

On January 16th, the MOGEF announced that they’ve censored the music videos for Huh Gak’s “Hello” and Kim Hyun Joong’s “Lucky Guy” due to its inappropriate content for minors.

The MOGEF claims that Huh Gak’s “Hello” is too violent, while Kim Hyun Joong’s “Lucky Guy” encourages recklessness.

Joining Huh Gak and Kim Hyun Joong on the list are Simon D, Tablo, and Yoon Mi Rae. Simon D’s “Cheerz” has been censored because of the MV’s inclusion of “hazardous substances” and “immoral lodgings”, while Tablo’s “Bad” contains “portrayals of violence and appearance of hazardous substances”. Yoon Mi Rae’s “Get It In” has likewise been struck out for its scenes of violence.

The censorship will go into effect starting January 23rd.

Taiwanese record label HIM International -- which manages girl group S.H.E and boy band Fahrenheit -- recently held their annual dinner.

Upon arrival, S.H.E member Selina Jen quipped, "It's like attending a wedding banquet," after seeing her colleagues dressed in evening gowns and tuxedos.

That night, the artistes from HIM International pooled in a total of NT$2 million (S$86,000) for the lucky draw cash prizes.

Taiwan singer Show Luo was named the most generous celebrity boss in Taiwan by Taiwan entertainment tabloid "Apple Daily", with Jay Chou and Singapore's own JJ Lin in second and third place respectively.

Luo reportedly gave out some NT$10 million (S$431,500)in year-end bonuses (including an all-expense paid two day one night vacation in Taiwan) to the 120 employees of his fashion store chain Stage.

He also gave out about NT$4 million (S$172,000) in red packets to the production staff of "100% Entertainment", a popular television show he hosts, and will take them to Bali for a five day four night holiday worth at least NT$1 million (S$43,100).

"It's worth it, because everyone had been very hardworking and gone through tough times over the past year," said Luo of his massive NT$15 million (S$647,000) cash haemorrhage.

Chou, who runs a music company, four restaurants, a fashion store called PHANTACi, and more recently, a karaoke outlet, came in a close second.

The star gave out NT$5 million (S$215,700) in bonuses to his restaurant and fashion store staff, with another NT$3 million (S$129,000) going to the staff of his music company JVR Music.

He also put up NT$2 million (S$86,300) to bring JVR Music's staff to Italy for vacation after the Lunar New Year, bringing Chou's cash outflow to a total of NT$10 million (S$431,500).

JYP Entertainment revealed, “Nichkhun will be participating in Thailand’s major filmmaker GTH’s 7 year anniversary movie project. Starting from the beginning of January, Nichkhun has been in Thailand filming. It will be Nichkhun’s first time acting since his debut and the agency, the Thai staff, and Nichkhun himself are all very excited for this production.”

GTH is well known for their movies such as ‘Phobia2’, ‘Hello Stranger’, and ‘Bangkok Traffic Love Story’. For their 7th anniversary project, three directors will be drawing a story about life and love and will be released in three parts in an omnibus format.

Nichkhun will be in one of the three parts along with a famous Thai movie star. Nichkhun will play a major supporting character who helps the hero search for the meaning of love and life. Even though it is Nichkhun’s fist time acting, his passion and hard work had led to endless praises from his seniors working with him on the set.

It was only recently revealed that Ha Ji-won would appear as Hyun Jung-hwa. She was being trained by coach Hyeon Jeong-hwa and standing shoulder to shoulder with actress Bae Doo-na. Ha Ji-won said, "Bae Doo-na has been a table tennis athlete since she was young so I tried to keep up with her".

Ha Ji-won is currently on break after making the movie. She has never had a break longer than six months since the year 2000. She is the only actress in the county that isn't picky about her films' genres: action, thriller, comedy or melodrama. She said, "My trainer tells me my muscles are quite impressive for an actress". She has been injured several times but she still carries on with the action.

Recently she has been on the casting list for the drama "The King". Her management said nothing's been confirmed yet but fans are waiting. A company recently named Ha Ji-won "The Rising Lady of 2012" along with the launching of its own products, proving that fans out there show her a lot of attention and love.
