Marking its return to film production, Celestial Pictures presented 12 minutes of footage from its upcoming historical action epic My Kingdom (大武生) at FilMart on Monday

A tale of fame, love and revenge, the film is the story of two orphans adopted into an opera troupe at the end of the 19th century. They are trained in Peking Opera and martial arts and become sensations in Shanghai.

The drama stars Barbie Hsu (Reign of Assassins) and Wu Chun (14 Blades) opposite Han Geng (Attack on the Pin-Up Boys) in his first major movie role.

My Kingdom is expected to complete its post-production in late April and to be released in multiple territories in August or September. It has so far sold to distributors in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Ross Pollack, Celestial's CEO declared that Celestial was "here to make good movies and tell good stories profitably".

Executive producer, Andre Morgan described My Kingdom as being about young people, starring young people, and as relevant today as it would have been in its setting of 1920s Shanghai.

Director Gao Xiaosong explained that his intent is to make something "fresh and cool for young audiences". He said he had been working on the film for five years with 31 drafts of the script completed before shooting began.

Pollack said that Celestial had first been attracted to the project two years ago. Sammo Hung, also in attendance, claimed that it was the best script that he had read in four decades as an actor.

Gao previously directed two art house films with starry casts, Where Have All the Flowers Gone with Zhou Xun and Rainbow with Jacqueline Li .
