Critically acclaimed actor Ha Jung-woo has been offered a role in a Hollywood film, industry sources have said.

An official with a production company met with 10Asia on Tuesday and said, "We asked Ha Jung-woo to appear in a film of ours but his agency said he has films to appear in till the end of next year with one of them being a Hollywood picture."

To this, an official at Ha's agency fantagio said on Wednesday, "It's true that he's been offered a role in Hollywood but there's nothing we can reveal because we're still in discussions."

Ha has appeared in overseas projects before including 2007 film "Never Forever" with Hollywood actress Vera Farmiga and 2009 pic "Boat" with Satoshi Tsumabuki, both helmed by Korean directors.

However, the role he has been offered in the upcoming Hollywood project is said to be American and will be produced on a medium-sized budget.

Ha, whose real name is Kim Sung-hoon, is the son of veteran Korean actor Kim Yong-gun. He first gained recognition appearing in several television dramas including "Lovers in Prague" (SBS, 2005) and TV series "H.I.T."

He rose to stardom after playing a serial killer in suspense thriller pic "The Chaser" (2008) and solidified his movie star status with "Take Off" (2009), which became one of the most-watched films in Korean box office history.

He has been invited to Cannes Film Festival four times for his movie roles -- in 2006 with film “The Unforgiven” (2006), the following year with director Kim Ki-duk’s “Breathe” (2007), then for "The Chaser" and last year for "The Murderer (The Yellow Sea)."

Ha's future film projects include “The Client” (translated title) by director Yoon and starring actor Choi Min-sik which is set to hit theaters in late September as well as a romance flick tentatively titled "Love Fiction" co-starring actress Kong Hyo-jin which he is currently filming.
