TAIPEI : Unhealthy working conditions on Taiwan drama productions have driven Taiwan singer-actress Ariel Lin to quit TV acting.

The 28-year-old explained on her website on Friday that the gruelling demands of filming had left her physically and mentally exhausted and she intends to focus on movies instead.

Since returning to work in March after an operation to remove a cyst in her brain in 2009, Lin said she "can't seem to adapt as well as I did 10 years ago".

Working 12 to 18 hour days leaves her with time only to "remove my makeup, shower and read my script" before falling asleep.

"This is not the type of life I want to lead for the next 10 years… therefore I have decided to stop acting in drama serials," Lin wrote.

However, the actress said she would still return to TV if a good script or role came along.

Lin had said in an interview in July that "playing the lead in a television series is very tough, like life in the military". She was worried that a heavy workload would cause a relapse and had planned to stop shooting drama serials in the next two to three years.

Apart from work, Lin, who had always kept a low profile on her love life, on Friday also took the opportunity to quash rumours that had been circulating about her boyfriend, Cheng Jia Yao.

Lin wrote that 43-year-old Cheng, who is not in show business, has never been married, has no children or financial problems.

"He's the best person I have ever met," she said.

Lin, who was first discovered on the long-running Taiwan variety show "Guess, Guess, Guess", shot to fame after starring in the 2005 idol drama "It Started with a Kiss" with Joe Cheng.

She then went on to win a Golden Bell Award for Best Actress Award in 2008 for her performance in the sequel "They Kiss Again".
