Top boy band TVXQ! member MAX Changmin has been nominated for best newcomer award at the upcoming Japanese Academy Prize.
The singer-actor was shotlisted for best newcomer for his role in the Japanese crime movie “Fly with the Gold” at the 36th Japan Academy Prize, the Japan Academy Prize Association announced on January 22.
The idol star is to compete with other six new stars and starlets, Takei Emi, Nikaido Fumi, Hashimoto Ai, Shota Sometani, Higashide Masahiro and Matsuzaka Tori, with seven of them all grabbing excellence award under Newcomers category.
The winner will be chosen from the seven nominees at the awards ceremony in March. Other major categories include best picture, best animated picture, best director and more.
In the thriller, the “Catch Me” singer depicts a North Korean spy named Momo, who disguises himself as an engineering student and later joins a gold bar robbery with five other characters.
Co-starring Japanese movie stars Satoshi Tsumabuki, Tadanobu Asano and Kiritani Kenta, the film raked in over 4 million U.S. Dollars in Japanese box office within three weeks of its opening on November 3 last year.
Considered as the most prestigious film award in Japan after launching in 1978, the 36th Japan Academy Awards is set to be held at the Takanawa Hall in Grand Prince Hotel, Tokyo on March 8.
