Singapore is an alpha World City. Singapore is unique as it is the only country in Asia which has English as its first language. The population of Singapore is highly cosmopolitan and diverse. It includes many Chinese, Malays, Indians, Eurasians, Caucasians and Asians of different origins. The total population including non-residents is approximately 4.99 million. The English language name of Singapore is derived from the Malay language name of Singapura (transliterated as Lion City). Today the city-state is often referred to as the Lion City. Studies of Singapore indicate that lions probably never lived there, not even Asiatic lions; the beast seen by Sang Nila Utama, the founder of Singapore who gave it the Malay name of Singapura meaning Lion City, was most likely a tiger, probably the Malayan Tiger.
"Singapore" is the name of both the city and country, which are the same entity. That is, the entire country constitutes a single municipality.

The Merlion is an imaginary creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, used as a mascot of Singapore. Its name combines "mer" meaning the sea and "lion". The fish body comes from Singapore's ancient name back when it was a fishing village — Temasek — meaning "sea town" in Javanese. The lion head represents Singapore's original name — Singapura — meaning "lion city". The symbol was designed by Mr Fabrice Jiew, a member of the Souvenir Committee and curator of the Van Kleef Aquarium. The Merlion continues to be its trademark symbol since 20 July 1966.
Merlion Park is located near Marina Bay, Singapore. This park is a popular tourist attraction. Two structures of the Merlion are located here and it is a major tourist attraction and a landmark of Singapore.

The Singapore Flyer is currently the tallest Ferris wheel in the world. Described by its operators as an observation wheel, it reaches 42 stories high, with a total height of 165 m (541 ft), and is 5 m (16 ft) taller than the Star of Nanchang and 30 m (98 ft) taller than the London Eye. Singapore comprises a 150 m (492 ft) diameter wheel, built over a three-story terminal building which houses shops, bars and restaurants, and offers broad views of the city centre and beyond to about 45 km (28 mi), including the Indonesian islands of Batam and Bintan, as well as Johor, Malaysia.
Each of the 28 air-conditioned capsules is capable of holding 28 passengers, and a complete rotation of the wheel takes approximately 37 minutes. Initially rotating in a counter-clockwise direction when viewed from Marina Centre, its direction was changed on 4 August 2008 under the advice of Feng shui masters. The Singapore Flyer is located near the shore of Singapore's Marina Bay at an area of Marina Centre known as Marina Promenade.

Suntec City Mall is a shopping centre in Singapore, located within the Marina Centre subzone of the Downtown Core Planning Area. Opened in 1995 together with initial phases of the Suntec City development. Suntec City was designed by Tsao & McKown Architects with emphasis on Chinese Feng Shui. The five buildings and the convention center are arranged so that they look like a left hand when viewed aerially. The Fountain of Wealth appears like a golden ring in the palm of the hand. As the fountain is made of bronze, it is believed that the balance of metal and water paves the way for success. Further, the specially selected Chinese name, 新达, means "new achievement".
The Fountain of Wealth is located in one of Singapore's largest shopping malls, Suntec City. During certain periods of the day, the fountain is turned off and visitors are invited to walk around a mini fountain at the centre of the fountain's base for good luck. At night, the fountain is the setting for laser performances, as well as "live" song and laser message dedications between 8pm to 9pm daily. It is situated in such a way the fountain is the hub of the shopping mall.
And of course, you shouldn’t miss Suntec City & The Fountain of Wealth because Rock Auditorium is located there!

Orchard Road is a road in Singapore that is the retail and entertainment hub of the city-state. It is regularly frequented by the local population as well as being a major tourist attraction. Often the surrounding area is known simply as Orchard.

Clarke Quay is a historical riverside quay in Singapore, located within the Signapore River Planning Area. The quay is situated upstream from the mouth of the Singapore River and Boat Quay. Presently, five blocks of restored warehouses house various restaurants and nightclubs. Notable restaurants and nightclubs include Hooters and Indochine.

How can I finish my article about Singapore completely without this thing, Singapore Sling. The Singapore Sling is a cocktail that was developed by Ngiam Tong Boon, a bartender working at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel Singapore before 1915. Recipes published in articles about Raffles Hotel prior to the 1970s are significantly different from current recipes. The original recipe used Gin,Cherry Heering, Bénédictine, and most importantly, fresh pineapple juice, primarily from Sarawak pineapples which enhance the flavour and create a foamy top. One of the scribbled recipes is still on display at the Raffles Hotel Museum. The current Raffles Hotel recipe is a heavily modified version of the original, most likely changed sometime in the 1970s by Ngiam Tong Boon's nephew. You can find a premixed Singapore Sling at the Long Bar in the Raffles Hotel, Singapore and taste this famous cocktail from its origin.

Singapore Sling Recipe
1 1/2 ounce gin, 1/2 ounce Cherry Herring, 1/4 ounce Cointreau, 1/4 ounce Benedictine, 4 ounce pineapple juice, 1/2 ounce lime juice, 1/3 ounce grenadine, 1 dash Angostura Bitters, Garnish: Cherry and slice of pineapple
Shake with ice. Strain into an ice filled Collins glass.
