Why “Mary Stayed Out All Night” have got low rating?

Let’s start with this article first…by dramabeans…

Nearing its finish, Giant hits ratings high

by javabeans

SBS’s Giant continues to perform extremely well in the ratings on Mondays and Tuesdays, particularly as it heads to its finish next week. The Tuesday (November 30) episode recorded its highest numbers yet with a 32.7% rating.

Giant has performed solidly through its entire run, although for most of the time it had to contend with another strong competitor in the form of MBC’s historical series Dong Yi, with KBS struggling to claim some ground with series like My Country Calls, Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child, and Sungkyunkwan Scandal. Once Dong Yi moved out of the way, Giant has been able to increase upon its low-twenties ratings and surpass 30%.

Giant, which stars Lee Beom-soo, Park Jin-hee, Joo Sang-wook, and Hwang Jung-eum, will wrap up with its last two episodes next week.

Meanwhile, MBC’s Queen of Reversals pulled up a bit to double digits with a 10.8%. KBS’s Mary Stayed Out All Night, on the other hand, has been dropping viewers and recorded a 6.7% — and although I’m watching for the cute romantic bits, I’m not surprised, since the plot is seriously lacking. It’s a bummer, when you consider its potential-to-performance ratio.

[This part is my comment ^^]

I found this article is interesting, so I decided to put it here. It said about the viewership rating and why “Mary Stayed Out All Night” have got low rating. Personally, I agree with her about the plot. The plot is a bit weak and not interesting when compare to “You’re Beautiful”. At least you should make viewer feels like they can’t miss the episode. You need to have some intense situation that made people think, “Oh, I’d like to know what will goimg on next!”. That’s happened with “The Baker’s King”, we’d like to know what going on next with Kim Tak-goo. No surprise that the drama have got huge successful, even with the newcomer actors.

But if talk about performance or acting in the drama, I can says I like JKS’s acting in “Mary Stayed Out All Night” more than in “You’re Beautiful”. He released his great acting skill in this. He transformed himself into Kang Mu-gyul completely. Never made me remind of Hwang Tae-kyung. That’s something a great actor should be. And his co-star, Moon Geun-young can shining along with him. Her acting skill as great as always. Never remind me of Eun-joo as well. Two thumbs up for them ^^ Sorry to say like this, but for me, the only reason that pinned me with “Mary Stayed Out All Night” is these 2 actors, not the plot itself. (Oh, I really miss Hong Sisters)

It's like when you're cooking. Only a great chef cannot cook an awesome dish without great ingredients. That's why the great chef always select ingredients by himself, carefully. To make sure they're good and fresh. And the most important ingredient to make it turn to be a great dish is "love". You have to love what you're doing. That's why mom's dish always great, because not only good things that she try to select carefully and cook for her kids but it full of love. I think all works need to be like that. Every components are important. Have to go along together. Rome cannot made in one day and by only one person.

But I still have high hope with this drama. Hope the plot will develop and have more intense. Hope the other 2 actors, Kim Jae Wook & Kim Hyo Jin, will have chance to shine their acting skill more than now. Because they’re great actors too. I know the production team & actors work really hard for this project. And they don’t deserve this low rating. So, keep going on with your great works. You still have a long way to go, who knows? And I can tell you, next round is tougher with “Athena”. Fighting, “Mary Stayed Out All Night” !!!!

“Mary Stayed Out All Night” airing Mondays-Tuesdays on KBS2 at 9.55 P.M. (korean time).
