Yoo Seung-ho is the latest to be added to the cast of SBS‘s upcoming drama historical action “Warrior Baek Dong Soo.” This will be Yoo Seung-ho’s first challenge as an action star. “Warrior Baek Dong Soo” is the drama adaptation of a graphic series of the same name, based on a real-life hero from the Joseon Dynasty.

Yoo Seung-ho will be a supporting character Yeo-woon, who is skilled in swordsmanship and martial arts. The Yeo-woon character is known for being fair-faced and handsome from childhood, but with his kind face he also has a cold, serious side.

The drama has already confirmed actors Ji Chang-wook (“Smile, Donghae”) as the leading role and has included Choi Min-soo (“Sandglass”) and Nam Ji-hyun (“Queen Seon-dok”) as supporting roles. The leading female character was rumored to be going to Lee Jia, but after the scandal of her marriage and divorce with Seo Taiji, it seems as though she will not be appearing in this drama, set to start airing July 4th.

The producing team should inspire a little confidence as well. PD Lee Hyun-jik has been a bit hit or miss but I think he did a solid job directing OB-GYN and Tazza. But I’m more interested in co-PD Kim Hong-sun, who’s done some strong work on cable with Medical Gibang, Mystery Detective Jung Yak-yong, and the dark Yacha. Those were all sageuk dramas, but all with a fusion bent and a decidedly stylistic flair.

The writer, Kwon Soon-kyu, appears to be a first-time drama scriptwriter but has a number of internet novels to his name; he was also a grand prize winner in the first SBSi internet novel writing contest in 2004.

'Warrior Baek Dong-soo' based on a manhwa, will be a Monday-Tuesday drama on SBS, and premieres July 4.
