On April 7th, the cast of the movie ‘SPEC~Ten‘, including the two lead actors Toda Erika and Kase Ryo, attended the opening day stage greeting for the film at Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills in Tokyo.
The very high popularity of the ‘SPEC’ series was evident by the large number of fans who tried to get into the overcrowded venue. After a nationwide PR campaign, the opening day of the long-awaited movie that is going to end the series, which already branched into a drama serial and a drama special, finally came.
During the event, the audience was surprised by a very exciting announcement. It was revealed that Masi Oka (‘HEROES’) has began working on a remake of the popular Japanese series into a US TV drama. It’s said that Masi Oka thinks that ‘SPEC’ has high potential of becoming a global hit and already sent his offer to the Japanese team / production crew after the final episode of the drama aired on TV. Apart from the tokusatsu series, there has never been a US remake of a Japanese drama before.
Masi Oka commented, “I’m a big fan of ‘SPEC’. I want to make the wonderful world of ‘SPEC’ known to the rest of the world. In order to make this drama remake happen, I’m currently coordinating things together with a major production company.” According to Japanese distributor Toho, he’s currently in the final stage of adjusting things, and we should expect the revelation of the complete staff and cast for the remake by as early as May.
When Toda heard the news, she pouted at first commenting, “Why is it going to be without us…?” Afterwards she smiled and said, “It will be strange to watch, but I’m glad that it’s getting recognized from outside Japan! I wonder how Hollywood actors are going to play those two roles.”
Kase added, “It’s probably going to be fun seeing who is going to be played by who. I think it would be nice if some muscleman like Arnold Schwarzenegger played my role.”
Furthermore the cast was asked about the SPEC that manipulate time, which is being used by Kamiki Ryunosuke in the series, and when it would be most useful.
Toda said, “It would be nice to be able to move faster than anyone else. However, if this means growing old faster too, then I’d rather not want to use it after all.” Actress Asano Yuko wholeheartedly agreed with Toda and looked at Kamiki saying, “I just want to the time to stop right now.”
The actors had other things in mind, however. “Somehow I can only think of bad ways to use it,” Kase shrugged his shoulders. Shiina Kippei was on the same wavelength and added, “Like lifting skirts?”
Fukuda Saki, Ryu Raita, and director Tsutsumi Yukihiko also attended the stage greeting.
