Since announcing his dating status publicly, Raymond Lam (林峯) has been spending a copious amount of time with girlfriend, Karena Ng (吳千語). Besides enjoying each other’s company in Hong Kong, the couple has also gone on several romantic trips across the globe. A reliable source even shared that Raymond had actually proposed marriage on their trip to Okinawa!

Currently in Hengdian filming Lu Xiaofeng and Hua Manlou <陸小鳳與花滿樓>, Raymond could not concentrate well on his work, and is often on the phone, either talking or sending text messages, presumably to Karena. Since Karena has no projects at hand now, she had planned to fly over to Hengdian to accompany Raymond. Because of the H7N9 bird virus spreading in China, Raymond would rather sacrifice time spent together rather than have her visit his Hengdian filming set, which is dangerously close to Shanghai and Jiangsu where most of the flu virus cases are found.

For now, the lovers will have to be satisfied with Raymond’s occasional overnight trips back to Hong Kong. Karena said, “Raymond is afraid that I may get ill so he prefers that I do not visit him. I’m also worried for him and often reminds him to be watchful of what he eats. Meanwhile, I have prepared a lot of dry food so that he can bring them over.” Raymond has been taking safety precautions by donning a mask whenever he can.

Will Not Film for TVB Dramas This Year

Without Karena by his side, Raymond could not focus on his work and is often distracted. Instead of going through his scripts, he spent most of his time on the phone. As a result, he ended with many outtakes during filming, and exasperated the crew.

Even in scenes he was supposed to film, Raymond would reportedly push them to the body double, and make his appearances only when his face can be seen on camera.

It has also been alleged that Raymond has made it clear to TVB executive, Virigina Lok (乐易玲) that he wants to take a break after filming Lu Xiaofeng and Hua Manlou and does not want to be involved in any work, be it filming or singing, so that he can spend more time with Karena. Hence, Raymond will not be involved in any series for the second half of this year.

Plans for Marriage

A source close to Raymond revealed, “Raymond is really serious about Karena this time. He is sure Karena is the one and plans to marry her within these two years.  Actually, when they were in Okinawa, Raymond already proposed to Karena and they have even bought their rings. However, the proposal wasn’t really serious as Raymond was merely testing his chances. I believe he will seriously propose to Karena again.”

What a great birthday it was for Super Junior’s Siwon this year!

We reported earlier that Siwon’s fans donated to UNICEF in honor of his birthday, leaving Siwon to feel thankful and speechless. It seems that April 7 was a doubly awesome day for the singer as he was sent a birthday gift from the popular Hong Kong actor, Andy Lau.

Andy Lau and Siwon became close while they were filming the 2006 Hong Kong movie “A Battle of Wits” together. The two have maintained their friendship throughout the years and in 2010, Andy Lau invited Siwon to the premier of his movie, “Detective Dee.”

Most recently, Andy Lau sent Siwon his signed CD album, “Unforgettable”, and Siwon uploaded a picture of himself holding it up on his Weibo account, with the caption, “Teacher gave me this for my birthday. Aren’t you jealous?”

Mainland Chinese drama Red Dust <滾滾紅塵> recently began airing on television channels in Shanghai and Hunan. Starring Hong Kong actor Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) and mainland Chinese actress Qin Lan (秦嵐), Red Dust has attracted much attention from viewers due to its intriguing mixture of love and espionage.

Although Red Dust shares the same name as the 1990 film starring Taiwanese actors Brigitte Lin (林青霞) and Qin Han (秦漢), the storylines are not quite related. The new TV drama is set during the Republic era, and its main focus is the history of the Second Sino-Japanese War. From there, it interweaves issues such as national crises, love and friendship, and the economy, thus creating a historical atmosphere with its multi-layered story.

In Red Dust, Kevin plays an underground Communist Party member for the first time. His character, Yu Lifan, is a handsome, quick-witted, and cool-headed revolutionary who is employed as a secret service agent for the Communist Party. While in Shanghai, he meets his first love Gu Haitang (Qin Lan), who was sold to a brothel several years ago after the death of her parents. Out of desperation, Haitang agrees to transport firearms for Lifan, but is arrested and later forced to leave the Shanghai French Concession. Soon, they find events spiraling out of their control, as Lifan is put on the wanted list for assassinating a key member of the Nationalist Party and Haitang braves death to help him escape.

Even though this was their first time working together, Kevin and Qin Lan had good chemistry together. Red Dust also marks the first espionage-themed drama that Kevin has participated in since entering the mainland Chinese television entertainment industry.

The drama’s director, Man Kit Poon (潘文杰), who was nominated for Best Director in the 1992 Hong Kong Film Awards, shared that the filming style for Red Dust was deliberately meant to resemble that of a film. “This drama’s camera language, editing techniques, and background music all adopted movie-like production methods,” he said. “I believe that after it airs, it will give viewers an impression of complete newness.”

Raymond Lam (林峯) and Karena Ng (吳千語) went on several romantic trips across Europe and Asia together since publicly revealing their relationship in February 2013. With Raymond filming for Lu Xiaofeng and Hua Manlou <陸小鳳與花滿樓> in Hengdian, the couple has been separated for half a month, communicating only through the phone and via text messages.

The day before yesterday, Raymond returned to Hong Kong to attend a Buddhist music function. He stayed overnight in Hong Kong before heading back to mainland China the next day. As expected, Karena took this rare opportunity to spend as much time as possible with her boyfriend. While Raymond rehearsed for his performance, Karena remained by his side. She was seen handing Raymond water and tissue, taking care of him the entire time.

Although not a diligent follower of Buddhism, Raymond said that there is a Buddha in his heart. Speaking of the H7N9 bird flu virus spreading through China, Raymond expressed that he tries to avoid eating pork or poultry. “I return to my hotel room when I don’t need to film, instead of staying out.” In addition, he told Karena not to visit him in mainland due to safety concerns.

Since Raymond will be returning to work shortly, did Karena prepare anything? “I prepared some food for him to bring along so that he can cook for himself instead of eating out. I told him to be careful of what to eat, and to avoid eating organs,” she said.

TVB’s production assistants are once again hit by another complaint by an artist. After Francis Ng(吳鎮宇) and Chilam Cheung (張智霖), who complained about the poor work performances of the Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲宵II> PAs last year, Nancy Wu (胡定欣) is the next star to publicly voice her disappointment at a TVB production assistant.

The Food for the Slaves <食為奴> star posted a dispirited post on Monday morning, which read, “PA Gor Gor, if you needed to schedule the rundown earlier than planned, please call me. Do not just send a text message, because a text message notification would not be [loud] enough to wake up a person who was still in deep sleep! I’m late now! Mr. Taxi driver also had to take the mountain route!” The post was attached with a photo of Nancy frowning while sitting at the back of a taxi.

Filming Canceled

Two hours later, Nancy posted another complaint on her Weibo, “On my way, but… it’s raining again. [Can someone] please report about the weather situation in Nam Sang Wai?” The attached photo is a snapshot of Nancy sitting next to a frowning Stephanie Ho (何雁詩) inside a TVB van.

A few hours later, Nancy uploaded another frowning picture of herself, writing, “Off from work. Shooting was canceled. Another waste of time.”

Spring weather is marked with steamy humidity and frequent rain showers. This is not the first time in which shooting for Food for the Slaves had to be canceled due to inconvenient weather conditions.

In the entertainment industry for 20 years, Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) was a singer turned actor who found great success in the television industry. Opening his own production studio this year, Kevin hopes to have greater control over his career. He wishes to cut down on the number of projects he appears in and only film for scripts that interest him.

With his company in its early stages, Kevin is still adapting to his role as a producer. Learning about project planning and production work firsthand, Kevin said, “As an actor, I used to nitpick on the scripts a lot. Now that I’m a producer, I realize it is not easy to come up with a story that flows smoothly and logically and pleases everyone.” Kevin realizes that it is necessary to compromise towards a common goal when working together with his staff.

Black Comedy as Debut

Speaking of his first production, Kevin glowed with pride. Though Kevin chose to keep the details shuttered, he divulged that it will be a light-hearted comedy. Kevin stressed that it will not be a slapstick, but a witty black comedy instead. Kevin admitted that his debut production will mirror his own personality. Kevin said, “I’m actually a very humorous person! I don’t really like to film series that are tragic and filled with crying scenes, but I always get those!” And that may be the reason why playing the witty L.A. Law in Ghetto Justice <怒火街頭> came so naturally to Kevin.

Perhaps his serious image led casting directors to misunderstand his real personality, but Kevin never sought to change that view. Instead, he treated it as a challenge. It was with this mentality that Kevin took up the titular role in TV drama, Ip Man <葉問>. Kevin joked, “The most common question I get is how am I different from Donnie Yen’s (甄子丹) Ip Man? The answer is a no-brainer! I am the Ip Man who cannot fight!” In a more serious tone, Kevin added, “That role was a big challenge for me. [With no fighting skills], I can only use my acting to convince myself and the viewers that I’m Ip Man.”

Nevertheless, Kevin has come a long way and is glad that with his stable financial situation, he can be selective with his filming choices, allowing him to film for free should he come across an intensely interesting project.

Understanding through Maturity

Kevin said of his philosophy in life, “In this industry, we are living under a huge magnifying glass. Our moves are constantly monitored and critiqued. There will always be people who are unhappy with us. If that is the case, we must as well be ourselves. At least, we are comfortable and happy.” Wise words but this notion only came after years of experience. Kevin revealed that he was never so objective in the initial years of his career, in which he felt despair for up to 3 days after an unpleasant incident before he forced himself to stand back up.

Despite his busy work schedule, the thought of family life is never far from Kevin’s mind. Forty-three-year-old Kevin hopes to find a partner with whom he can spend the rest of his life. “There are ups and downs in everyone’s life; I wish my partner would be able to support me through my downs. Likewise, I hope to do the same for her.” Ranking compatibility as number one on his list, Kevin revealed he has yet to find his ideal wife.
Kevin reflected, “I have thought deeply of my past relationships. It is not a matter of who is right or wrong; it’s all a matter of compatibility and timing. Eventually, the woman I marry may not be the one I love the most. When she appears, maybe I’m not ready yet. But she could not wait. After she got married, I still could not let go inside my heart. Hmm…it’s a matter of time. Yes, it’s unromantic to say this, but it’s the truth.”

The Pang Brothers have recently released a string of promotional stills, theatrical posters, and a teaser trailer for their new film, Inferno 3D <逃出生天>, a 3D fire disaster film starring Sean Lau (劉青雲), Louis Koo (古天樂), and Angelica Lee (李心潔).

The $150 million HKD thriller film tells the tale of two firefighter brothers, portrayed by Sean and Louis, and their missions in saving the city of Guangzhou from crumbling to a pile of ashes. Three teaser posters featuring Sean and Louis were released. Six climactic photo stills were also released to accompany the one-minute action-packed teaser trailer.

The exciting trailer includes shots of collapsing buildings, underwater scenes, and stunt sequences of the main leads dangling on the edge of a building and a tower crane.
“I had to face explosions on set almost every day,” Louis disclosed. The actor joked that all the smoke had caused his lungs to turn black.

The actor also revealed that he almost turned down the offer to film Inferno 3D. Ironically, Louis, who plays a fireman in the film, had almost caught himself in fire when he was younger. “When I was around six to seven years old, I burned my left leg. My eyebrows and hair also almost caught fire. I had to strip down all my clothes. Many people told me not to film such a dangerous movie! Honestly, I was really scared when shooting the movie. I’ve seen a cameraman caught on fire before.”

On portraying brothers with Sean, Louis laughed, “We are both very dark! It makes us very convincing as brothers!”

Although Sean and Louis had collaborated many times before, the onscreen partners managed to spark out different chemistry each time. Louis said, “Last time [in Overheard], our characters schemed. This time, we argue as estranged brothers.

Two nights ago a charity premiere took place and yesterday an ultimate ticket autograph session was held as they played games with the audience. Jai Jai helped two female participants who competed in the shooting game, much to the envy of onlooking fans.

Jai Jai was very convincing with his instruction to the two contestants. He explained that guys like guns. Earlier he had shooting training for a police film. He denied that he gave special treatment to female fans from Japan. "Ekin pushed him out to help. I conversed with her in Japanese. Actually she knew Mandarin and spoke it better than I do." No one can deny that Raymond Lam (林峯) has been all over the media lately. Aside from tabloid reports about his love life, there are also reports on his new dramas, movies, concerts, and advertisements. Raymond once stressed that he will never deliberately stop himself in a certain position, but would get a hold of his own requirements through continuous learning and different forms of work.

Raymond’s new movie, Saving General Yang <忠烈楊家將>, will be released on April 4. “This is definitely a big breakthrough for me. Compared to the relaxing romantic comedies in the past, this is a classic epic household story. It extols the greatness of loyalty and affection, which can be more important than life. The script which displays the dramatic interaction between the cast was really memorable for me. I would like to thank director Ronny Yu (于仁泰) for giving me the chance to participate.”

The movie emphasizes how loyalty is often more important than life. Raymond explained that besides loyalty, if a person loses his basic freedoms, status and money are both futile. “There is nothing more precious than freedom,” Raymond said. “Therefore, we have to appreciate it and enjoy our right of having it.”

With his beginnings in the television industry, Raymond thanked TVB for giving him consecutive work opportunities. “Honestly, although filming dramas are a lengthy and tedious process, I still enjoy it. I’m clear of the fact that I’m already luckier than many others, because I am able to have a job I like. Plus, there is a lot of competition in this industry. If I don’t take things seriously, it is easy to be eliminated.”

Even though Raymond has been in the industry for 14 years, he admitted that he is still not used to, nor does he like having a camera follow him around when he is trying to live a normal life. “Especially when the media makes up a story based on a single photo that meets their desires. At first, I resisted it, but later I found that nothing is going to change. Might as well focus on my work and not care about the lame reports.”

Raymond continues, “Everything is in your hands and your heart. Even with the heart to do something, it won’t be successful if you don’t use your hands to do it, or your brain to think about it. For instance, there are many doors in front of you. Some might think there is a beautiful meadow behind them, but they don’t have the courage to open it.
I’m going to be the person who opens the door, because if it remains closed, then everything is only imagination. When we’re old and we don’t have the strength to open the door, there would be regret. I don’t want to give myself chances of regret. At the same time, I appreciate everything around me even more because of my tedious job.”

In conclusion, Raymond said, “You won’t possess something forever, because nothing always stays the same. I treasure all I have, so I try to do everything with the best of my efforts.”

On March 26, Chinese Entertainment Shanghai (Tangren) released their first sneak peek trailer for their upcoming television drama, Bu Bu Jing Qing <步步惊情>, the sequel and modern retelling to their 2011 hit, Bu Bu Jing Xin <步步惊心>.

The four-minute trailer clip starts off with some reminiscing scenes from the first installment, which captures the tragic romance between lead characters, Ruoxi (Cecilia Liu) and Emperor Yongzheng (Nicky Wu). The nostalgic trailer ends with Ruoxi’s death, with Yongzheng voicing the words, “If you can’t come to my world, I’ll go to your world to find you.”

The trailer then pans to the blessing ceremony and some behind-the-scenes footage of Bu Bu Jing Qing in Tianjin, which commenced shooting earlier this month.

The trailer also provides an exclusive new look at the drama’s plot, which was kept relatively private since the serial’s cast announcements in early 2013. In the trailer, Cecilia’s character, Zhang Xiao, is revealed to be a designer who works at Zhentian Group, a large public company. The reincarnation of Yongzheng, Yin Zheng (Nicky), is the adopted son of Emperor Kangxi’s reincarnation, Kang Zhentian (Damian Lau), the Chairman of Zhentian Group.

Zheng, along with Kang’s eldest son Kang Sihan (Sun Yizhou), are both prospective heirs to the Zhentian Group. By getting herself romantically involved with the two brothers, Xiao reluctantly gets herself embroiled in the Kang family feud.
The teaser scenes also revealed Cecilia portraying a mysterious second character – Lan Lan.

New 3D action film, Switch <天机·富春山居图>, starring Andy Lau (劉德華), Chiling Lin (林志玲), Zhang Jingchu (張靜初), and Tong Dawei (佟大為), will be released in China on June 9, 2013.

Although there are still more than two months left, the music video of its theme song, “Secret”, sung by Magic Power (MP魔幻力量) and Ashin Chen (陳信宏) from Mayday (五月天), has already been exposed online. The music video features new footage from Switch, which has not been seen before.

The music video depicts the love and hate relationships between the four main leads in the film with its strong sense of rhythm. Along with the inclusion of a fleeting glimpse from veteran actress, Siqin Gaowa (斯 琴高娃), the music video is highly attractive amongst netizens. Ashin, who is also the producer of the music video, added that it is something not to miss out on.

Switch speaks of a top Hong Kong agent, Xiao Jinghan (Andy Lau), and his wife, Lin Yuyan (Zhang Jingchu), who both aim to protect a nationally treasured Chinese masterpiece, the “Fuchun Mountains” painting. This soon attracts a Japanese mafia spy, Lisa (Chiling Lin), who dwells between good and evil. Yamamoto (Tong Dawei), the one behind all the evil machinations, slowly reveals himself throughout the story.

Aside from her fleeting glimpse, Siqin Gaowa was willing to steer off her usual acting track to portray a mysterious cultural relics leader. “Although I am only a cameo in the film, it was a brave attempt to play the role. Hopefully I can gain the audience’s approval from this experience,” she expressed.

Since leaving TVB in 2011 to focus on her career in mainland China, Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) has received numerous offers from rival TV stations. HKTV’s Ricky Wong (王 維基) attempted to entice Charmaine earlier with a high salary offer, but the deal was ultimately rejected. It appears that pay-television station now TV is also trying to recruit Charmaine to star in its upcoming palace drama, offering TVB’s former “Top Sister” $120,000 HKD per episode.

A collaboration between now TV and mainland station Huace Film & TV, Han Empress Wu Zi Fu <大漢賢后–衛子夫> is a 40-episode grand production headed by former TVB producers Lau Ka Ho (劉家豪) and Mui Siu Ching (梅小青). The husband-and-wife team was responsible for popular TVB dramas Can’t Buy Me Love <公主嫁到>, Beyond the Realm of Conscience <宮心計>, and Heart of Greed <溏心風暴> among many others. Han Empress Wu Zi Fu will star artists from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and will begin filming in May and scheduled to air during Spring Festival next year.

Recent reports claimed that Charmaine is in discussion with now TV to star in the station’s first official production. Charmaine is supposedly willing to film for a lower salary to repay good friends Lau and Mui for their roles in Charmaine’s career success. Currently earning 200,000 RMB per episode in mainland China, Charmaine will be taking a 40 percent pay cut should she agree to film at the proposed “friendship price”.

Lau Ka Ho and Mui Siu Ching attended a press conference on Tuesday, March 26 to discuss their first major contribution as now TV’s Production Department President and Vice President. Now TV executive Ho Lai Chuen (何 麗全) refuted the rumors, stating that $120,000 HKD is not enough to invite a popular star such as Charmaine. When asked whether he had invited Charmaine to film for this project, Lau admitted that he had spoken with Charmaine but that he had also discussed this opportunity with many other artists. Lau Ka Ho added that they are currently considering mainland actresses to lead the drama.

Lau further stated that although Charmaine is unable to film for them at the moment, there remains a possibility that she will collaborate with them in the future.

Director Ronny Yu (于仁泰) is not tired of seeing his seven Yang brothers and he hopes to reunite them again in a future action film.

Pegasus Motion Picture’s big blockbuster war epic, Saving General Yang <忠烈楊家將>, held a press conference/ premiere in Beijing on the afternoon of March 26. All seven male leads – “Dalang” Ekin Cheng (鄭伊健), “Erlang” Yu Bo (于波), “Sanlang” Vic Chou (周渝民), “Silang” Li Chen (李晨), “Wulang” Raymond Lam (林峯), “Liulang” Wu Chun (吳尊), and “Qilang” Fu Xinbo (付辛博), were all in attendance. The seven Yang brothers’ mother She Taijun, portrayed by acclaimed mainland Chinese actress Xu Fan (徐帆), also graced the press conference along with director Ronny Yu.

The film, which is set to hit in theaters worldwide on April 4, is a retelling of the traditional Chinese folklore Generals of the Yang Family < 楊家將>, a story about the militant Yang clan and their unflinching loyalty to their family and to their country. The film will depict the final years of the seven Yang brothers and their journey to save their father, Yang Linggong (Adam Cheng).

Xu Fan is the Heart of the Movie

Although a male-dominated film, Ronny Yu assured that the female characters in the action epic are all relevant and significant to the story. Xu Fan’s She Taijun is especially, according to Ronny Yu, the heart of it all. “Without her, this film would not have been made,” said Ronny.

The director revealed that Xu Fan was actually the first to be cast in the action epic. “Three years ago, I told [producer] Raymond Wong (黃百鳴) that we must invite Xu Fan. If there is Xu Fan, then we will be able to cast the rest of the actors.”

Xu Fan recalled that her first meeting with Ronny Yu was “not very long, but we chatted for over an hour.” On the actress’ first day on set, Xu Fan’s chemistry with the director clicked immediately, and she felt as if she and Ronny had been very long friends.
Ronny praised, “[Xu Fan] is experienced, professional, and very familiar with the script. Filming Xu Fan is like watching an actual movie.”

A “Modern” Retelling

At the press conference, a new poster for Saving General Yang was unveiled, featuring the seven Yang brothers sporting modern hairstyles but wearing traditional armor, giving off a feeling of stylish avant-garde.

The director stressed that although the film itself is a period drama, he wanted to approach the source material with a modernized retelling. “This is the reason why I wanted all my main stars to be young handsome men. I’ve watched a lot of historical war epics. Now, I think it’s time for the audience to experience a different kind of epic.”

Ronny also revealed that he plans to shoot a big-budget “spiritual sequel” of Saving General Yang. He is currently preparing a modern action film that is “similar to Ocean’s Eleven. It will also feature a group of handsome men, battling out their wits. We plan to go on various jaw-dropping overseas locations to shoot the movie. I really hope that the seven brothers will come together again to film it.”

After much speculation, it was recently revealed that TVB actor Raymond Lam will play Luk Siu Fung in the upcoming mainland Chinese television adaptation drama, "Lu Xiaofeng And Hua Manlou".

Popular Asians reported that Raymond would be the sixth person to play Luk Siu Fung, the main protagonist in the self-titled wuxia novel series written by the late Gu Long, and the fifth one for a television adaptation.

The series have been adapted numerous times into films and television series, and starred various actors, ranging from Damian Lau in the 1976 TV version, Jimmy Lin in the 2000's Taiwanese version and Julian Cheung in mainland's first adaptation back in 2006.

It was alleged that Raymond, who initially denied his participation in the drama, was paid RMB 500,000 for the role. However, the actor has refused to comment on the rumour.

In related news, the drama, produced by West Coast Media, also stars actor Zhan Xiaolong as titular best friend, Fa Moon Lau. In addition, Lan Xi, Zhang Meng, Kent Cheng and Leanne Liu have also reportedly joined the project.

Replacing Moses Chan (陳豪)’s role in upcoming grand production, Brother’s Keeper <巨輪>, Edwin Siu (蕭 正楠) has successfully jumped up to the ranks as a TVB male lead.

The 36-year-old actor will be starring alongside big names like Louise Lee (李司棋) and Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) in the cross-millennium epic, and will be sharing ample screen time with the drama’s other male lead, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬).

Last week, Sudden Weekly magazine alleged that Edwin and Ruco did not get along very well on set due to the competition for screen time in Brother’s Keeper. The costars’ competitive nature with each other had in fact been around since their primary school days, when they attended SKH St. Clement Primary School together during the mid-1980s. The ex-classmates were said to be especially competitive when it came to sports, in which both Edwin and Ruco were involved in the school’s table tennis team.

Soon after the report was published, Edwin thanked the magazine on his Weibo, writing, “Thanks for helping us increase our exposure rate!” Ruco then replied to Edwin’s post, and wrote, “Not only has [Sudden Weekly] helped us out with the promotions, Edwin! But also with our primary school and endorsers!”

At a special function held on March 24, Ruco denied that that he was on bad terms with Edwin. “We play brothers in the drama, so we are as close as family.” Ruco was not unhappy about the rift rumors, but was glad that the rumors came after they completed the shooting of Brother’s Keeper. “If the rumors came while we were shooting it, which would negatively impact our emotions and our acting.”

Ruco assured that he and Edwin were never competitive with each other, saying, “The reports say that Edwin and I competed against sports, but Edwin rarely plays tennis table. He likes association football a lot more.”

There was, however, one thing that Ruco wished he could compete against Edwin someday. Ruco admitted that he wished he had more stage performance offers like Edwin, who has been reportedly earning at least $300,000 HKD every month from show performances alone.

Hong Kong actor Louis Koo (古天樂) and Taiwanese actress Joe Chen (陳喬恩) have been in a secret relationship for the last two years, according to Ming Pao Weekly. Although the couple had a rift earlier, they have not officially broken up.

The pair was allegedly introduced to each other by a mutual friend in 2010 and started dating half a year later. Louis and Joe were reportedly very serious about their relationship and considered each other as potential marriage partners.

When Louis’ relationship was exposed this week, the press tried to get a hold of Louis to respond to the matter in Thailand, where he is shooting his crime film, The Cartel War <掃毒>. Louis, however, chose not to comment.

Louis is known for keeping his private life as far from the spotlight as possible. To this day, Louis’ only acknowledged girlfriend was former Miss Hong Kong contestant Natalie Wong (黃紀瑩), whom he dated for seven years during the 1990s.

Yesterday Fan Bingbing, Moses Chan, Aimee Chan, Aarif Lee, Simon Yam and Gordon Lam attended the Century Sakura fashion show held in Shenzhen. Initially Fan Bingbing was suppose to walk down the red carpet, but due to some confusion in the arrangements, she didn't appear until half way through the show.

Instead, TVB FaDan Aimee Chan had unexpected good luck land on her as she was the last guest to walk down the red carpet. Fan Bingbing made a special trip to Shenzhen to take part in this event, but Aimee ends up taking her spot, which was upsetting to her. She appeared cool throughout the fashion show and declined interviews from the media. Yesterday Fan Bingbing's manager denied the dissatisfaction with the arrangements, but said without concealing that she does not know Aimee.

Although Aimee and her boyfriend Moses did not walk down the red carpet together, they still openly took pictures together and accepted interviews together backstage. After the success of its iPartment <愛情公寓> series and other modern romantic dramas, production company China Syndication Entertainment is taking on its first period drama. Set in the era of the Republic of China, Loving Herb <愛情悠悠藥草香> (unofficial English title) will bring together Hong Kong actress Jessica Hsuan (宣萱), and mainland Chinese artists Loura Lou (婁藝瀟), Han Dong (韓棟) and Benny Qian (錢泳辰).

The story of Loving Herb revolves around six females and their intertwined quests for love and independence. Foregrounded in the story as well are the two sons of the Bai family, who are involved in the medicinal herb business. Director Jeffrey Chiang (蔣家駿), known for his fast-paced, female-oriented romantic dramas like Boy & Girl <男才女貌> and Love to Be Found Nowhere <美麗新天地>, hopes to use the characters’ stories of love and despair to give viewers a comprehensive depiction of how women lived in that particular era.

In order to remain true to the Republican China time period, the production company spared no expense when it came to the filming locations, selecting the Lu-Family Residence (盧宅) as the home of the Bai family. Located in Dongyang in Zhejiang Province, the Lu-Family Residence is an important historical and cultural site that dates back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The old building complex, which is under state-level protection, is often referred to as the Imperial Palace of Southern China. Its refined simplicity and grand loftiness are sure to well befit the aristocratic Bai family, as well as lend a believable historical aura to the backdrop.






Adhering to their objective of producing dramas that feature “beautiful love, beautiful scenery, and beautiful people,” China Syndication Entertainment chose Loura Lou and Jessica Hsuan as Loving Herb’s female leads. Loura, who has proven herself capable of playing a variety of roles in dramas like iPartment and Love Destiny <愛情自有天意>, will play the role of Huang Caiwei in her first Republican China-era series. The other female lead, the vicious and merciless Ma Fufang, will be portrayed by Jessica.

Bu Bu Jing Xin <步步驚心> and Swordman < 笑傲江湖> actor Han Dong will be the male lead, whose elder brother will be played by Benny Qian, an experienced period drama actor. Other actors include Ni Hongjie (倪虹潔), Jin Ming (金銘), Tong Xiaoyan (仝曉燕), and Sun Ya (孫雅), as well as veteran actors Xia Taifeng (夏台鳳), Kenneth Tsang (曾江), Yue Yueli (岳躍利), and Jia Ni (賈妮).

After nearly four decades in the industry, Chow Yun Fat is still a household name to this day. Since 1986’s A Better Tomorrow < 英雄本色>, Fat Gor’s Hong Kong films are often seen as box office guarantees. The 57-year-old has also had a decent career in Hollywood, starring in worldwide box office hits such as Ang Lee’s (李安) Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon <臥虎藏龍> and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. Fat Gor is also warmly known as “Superstar of the People.” Despite being one of the world’s biggest actors, Fat Gor is still a big consumer of public transportation. He is friendly to his fans, his neighbors, and will be more than happy to snap a picture with fans when he is spotted walking casually on the streets.

Fourth Place – Louis Koo and Daniel Wu

As a TVB artist training class graduate of 1982, the 51-year-old Francis Ng (吳 鎮宇) was also Tony Leung’s classmate. Although Francis’ road to success took much longer than Tony’s, Francis has portrayed many unforgettable roles in Hong Kong television. His humorous parody portrayal of Patrick Tse (謝賢) in the 1997 TVB television drama Old Time Buddy < 難兄難弟> is still remembered today. Francis is also credited for contributing to Hong Kong’s booming aviation industry after his successful portrayal as pilot Sam Tong in the 2003 TVB drama,Triumph in the Skies <衝上雲宵>. Many aspiring pilots came knocking at the doors of flight training schools after the broadcast of the serial.

Seventh Place – Raymond Lam and Sean Lau

Raymond Lam is the youngest star on this list. The triple-threat superstar debuted under TVB’s umbrella in 1999, and has starred in many dramas since. Raymond’s success in both the film and music industry is also noteworthy.
