The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on March 30 that Chungmuro will be turned into a Korean wave theme street where tourists can experience Korean pop culture.
Staff from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that Chungmuro was selected from among eleven potential sites. As part of the theme, Myungbo Art Hall will be converted into a "Korean Wave experience center".
Chungmuro was selected because of its proximity to tourist sites like Namsan M Tower, the Namsan Hanok Village, Cheonggyecheon Stream and Deoksugung Palace.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced that it will spend 21.4 billion won to create the Chungmuro theme area, including the installation of name plates and hand prints from famous actors, art and a 3D exhibition to experience and learn about Korean wave.
"Chungmuro has been known as a street of culture, artists, and the film industry. Dansungsa, one of the first movie theaters in Korea, is also situated in the area. Chungmuro will be turned into an eye-catching place where tourists can experience the Korean wave", said a staff member from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
