Jung Woo-sung has been cast as the male lead for a new TV series, making his return to the small screen after an eight-month hiatus.

The show's promoter Baggat announced in a press release on Tuesday that Jung will take on the role of Yang Kang-chul in the upcoming series titled "Padam Padam" which will mark the establishment of new broadcasting station jTBC.

"Padam Padam," written by scenarist Noh Hee-kyung and to be helmed by Kim Kyu-tae, will tell the love story between the haggard Yang Kang-chul and a bright and cheerful veterinarian. The remaining cast and premiere date have yet to be announced.

"I was drawn to this production because Noh has this way of portraying a 'family drama,'" Jung was quoted as saying. "I felt that this was my chance to relay on that image of the family interaction."

Jung has been one of the most widely recognized actors in Korea and became known in Japan after starring in film "A Moment to Remember" alongside actress Son Ye-jin in 2004.

He last appeared on the small screen through SBS' TV series "Athena" alongside Cha Seung-won, Soo-ae and E Ji-ah last year. He was recently cast for the English-language remake of Hong Kong action film "The Killer."
