Figure skating champion Kim Yu-na has been inaugurated as a goodwill ambassador for the first-ever Winter Youth Games that will take place in Innsbruck, Austria.
The International Olympic Committee appointed her to the post on Wednesday, exactly 100 days before the start of the sporting event in the European city.
Kim, who will be serving alongside Olympic ski champions Lindsey Vonn of the U.S. and Benjamin Raich of Austria, will encourage young athletes at the Games and help draw global attention to the event. Athletes between 15 and 18 are eligible to compete at the event, which is having its first-ever winter competition in Innsbruck.
"I am pleased and honored to be able to contribute to the first Winter Youth Games", Kim said. "I have taken part in many competitions since I was a child and will be able to connect with the athletes. I would like to share my knowledge and experience with them so that they will be able to realize their potential", she added.
