Ryu Seung Ryong will be receiving hundreds of millions of won in a running guarantee for the success of his film The Gift of Room 7.

The film recently became the eighth Korean film of 2013 to join the 10 million club.

One official commented, "We believe Ryu Seung Ryong will be receiving a running guarantee that amounts to much more than what he was paid to appear in the movie. The Gift of Room 7 was Ryu Seung Ryong′s first film with a running guarantee. He never knew the film would gather more than 10 million, but the amount for his running guarantee has been climbing with the film′s success. We can′t say exactly how much he′ll be receiving because everything will be balanced when the film leaves theaters."

The break-even point for The Gift of Room 7 is at an audience of 1.7 million. For the remaining 8.3 million, Ryu Seung Ryong will be able to claim a certain share for each audience member. Even when set at a minimum of 10 won for each additional audience member, the running guarantee adds up to nearly a 100 million won.

The Gift of Room 7 cost a total of 5.8 billion won to produce yet managed to earn over 70 billion won. It is known to have the highest earnings rate out of the eight Korean films that surpassed 10 million.

A rep from the film′s PR company commented, "Everyone has agreed to keep the running guarantee portion of the contract a secret. We cannot disclose the exact terms or the exact amount."

Another rep from Ryu Seung Ryong′s agency also said, "The film is still in theaters, and many other actors also worked hard for it; we′re trying to be careful about the issues being concentrated only on Ryu Seung Ryong′s running guarantee."

Despite its high-quality action scenes, it looks like KBS’s “IRIS 2″ is continuing to see its ratings drop. According to AGB Nielsen, the blockbuster series recorded 10.7%  for last night’s episode, a 0.1% drop.

Unfortunately, the drama starring Lee Da Hae and Jang Hyuk saw its ratings drop every episode. Initially, it started out as the leader of Wed/Thurs. night dramas, however, it came in last in its time slot this week.

MBC’s “Level 7 Civil Servant” came in second with 11.4%, allowing SBS’s “That Winter, The Wind Blows” to secure its lead with 14.1%.

Meanwhile, there was a lot of hype surrounding the premiere of “IRIS 2.” As the sequel to the popular “IRIS,” starring Kim Tae Heeand Lee Byung Heon, the sequel reunited two big names from “Chuno,” Lee Da Hae and Jang Hyuk.

“IRIS 2” story picks up three years after the death of Hyun Joon (Lee Byung Heon) in “IRIS,” and revolves around the mysteries surrounding Hyun Joon’s death and Baek San (Kim Young Chul), who had been arrested for being part of the secret organization, IRIS. The NSS agents, headed by Yoo Gun (Jang Hyuk), will struggle to fight against and expose IRIS, which has gotten larger and even more powerful than before.

In her most recent interview with Hankyung, Yoon Eun Hye talked about the cold weather on the set of “I Miss You,” being a former idol, and acting with two younger men.

The actress admitted that the filming conditions in the cold weather caused her to break down during the final week of filming. “I continued on and I was becoming more exhausted, so my body started to become abnormal. In the end, I collapsed during the final episode. I withstood it the exhaustion the whole week, but with one day to go, my body broke down. I received a checkup at an emergency room in Seoul, got four IVs, and then I returned back to the filming location.”

Yoon Eun Hye also reflected on her experiences starring in hit dramas such as “Goong” and “Coffee Prince.” After being a member of Baby VOX, she attempted to legitimize herself as an actress. She recalls the lesser-known drama “Take Care of the Lady” as her most difficult drama experience. “I was removing the image that I was originally a singer, and I thought I was finally being acknowledged as an actress, but in reality, as the drama aired there were many cold responses.”




In “I Miss You, “Yoon Eun Hye acted with two younger actors, Park Yoochun and Yoo Seung Ho. In regards to Yoo Seung Ho, she stated that she was worried about portraying a relationship with someone nine years younger than herself. “I couldn’t even imagine it. I couldn’t think of the younger days of Yoo Seung Ho while filming. We talked a lot and became close because I was very worried about how to act a loving relationship with someone who is nine years younger than me. Before filming there drama, there were some actors who were older than me who were candidates for the role of Harry which Yoo Seung Ho played. I couldn’t accept his appearance.

However, after he was cast, I thought it was a good thing. I didn’t know he was 21. (Laughs)“ She added that she thought Yoochun was very awkward the first time she had encountered him, but found out how sociable he was during the filming of I Miss You. “I didn’t even get to eat with Yoochun once. I first saw him as a junior about eight to nine years ago, and he honestly seemed very awkward. However, he is very sociable by nature, so matching up with him in the drama wasn’t burdensome. As a result of those two being younger than me, I comfortably acted and put in a lot of effort. Those two are the type that act genuinely, so they became more helpful to me.”

Yoon Eun Hye stated that she was comfortable acting with two younger men. “Though there were a lot of scenes where I just cried, the atmosphere on set was really good. We were able to have fun filming because of that atmosphere, even in the cold. If I exclude the cold weather, this drama didn’t cause any difficulties compared to other dramas. There was a time my staff told me that it would be great if I didn’t show any signs of having difficulty in front of Yoochun since he suffered by running outside. (Laughs)I’m sorry to Yoochun and I like how kind he is.”

Song Seung Hun‘s wax figure is coming to Madame Tussauds Busan. Madame Tussaud is internationally renowned wax figure exhibition. On February 22, TV Asahi announced that the two actors Ito Hideaki and Sakaguchi Kenji will co-star in the upcoming detective drama titled ‘Doubles‘.

10 years has passed since Ito and Sakaguchi last starred together in a project and in ‘Doubles’ they are going to deal with heinous crimes as the strongest detective partners on TV. The drama is set at the central police station in Shinjuku, Tokyo and said to feature plenty of action, drama and comedy.

Both actors have already been portraying strong and ‘fighting men’ in their trademark series ‘Umizaru‘ and ‘Iryu‘, respectively. The last time they actually co-starred together was in the 2002 drama ‘Tentai Kansoku‘ (Fuji TV). This time they are playing hot-blooded and righteous detectives who fight against increasing number of heinous crimes in Shinjuku.

Ito is portraying a thoughtless detective named ‘Yamashita Shunsuke’ who doesn’t seem to care about the minor details when being on a case. Sakaguchi is playing a more serious and more hot-blooded kind of detective named ‘Tashiro Keiichi’. Their actions and opinions are often clashing with each other, but despite those disputes they always end up cooperating in order to solve all the different cases.

Ito commented, “Kenji and I are of the same age, but when we worked together 10 years ago, we were still in our twenties. Back then we sort of tried to keep each other in check and weren’t able to be all that upfront with each other. Now we get the chance to work together again at the end of our thirties, and with that part between us gone, I’d like us to create a great drama together.”

He continued, “My character will do a lot of action, handle guns and catch a lot of those small details related to a case. I want to create a character that even the very young viewers will admire and think of as ‘cool’. There have been many detective dramas already, but I hope the two of us will be able to leave our mark with this new detective series.”

Sakaguchi stated, “I’m looking forward to work together with Hideaki again after 10 years. Moreover it’s going to be a detective drama! I’m really happy since we boys love detective dramas (laughs) I want to try my best as long as my physical strength lets me to.”

He continued, “In our twenties, I strongly felt of Hideaki as my rival. I absolutely couldn’t lose to him and observed him all the time, but right now I can only think about how nice it will be to create a great drama by joining our forces. I want us to build a duo that people simply won’t be able to hate, although they always act recklessly.”

The story follows detective Yamashita and Tashiro as they get transferred to a new special unit of the very best detectives that operate from the station in Shinjuku. This new unit is often being referred to as ‘Section 0′.

‘Doubles’ is written by Ozaki Masaya (‘Umechan Sensei’) and TV Asahi is going to air this drama every Thursday at 9:00 pm starting in April.

It was announced that actress Omasa Aya will star in TV Tokyo’s upcoming drama “Vampire Heaven” that will begin airing in April.

Omasa will play a beautiful vampire named “Sakurako” while Honda Tsubasa will be Sakurako’s best friend and also vampire named “Komachi”. The human male, whom the two vampires fall in love with, will be played by Hiraoka Yuta.

The drama will be written and directed by Seta Natsuki who has worked with Omasa in movie “Usotsuki Mi-kun to Kowareta Ma-chan“, and this will mark the first time for her to direct a TV drama.

The synopsis will be a sad love story in which two beautiful vampires “Sakurako” (Omasa) and “Komachi” (Honda) fall in love with a man named “Hayato” (Hiraoka).

After violating a taboo in the world of vampires, Sakurako and Komachi come down to the world of humans, and encounter a human male, Hayato. Though Sakurako instantly falls in love with Hayato, vampires have the disposition that the more they love somebody, the more they desire the person’s blood. Sakurako finds out she can resist the uncontrollable impulse to suck blood somehow when she plays music, thus she strums on a guitar while thinking of her loved one. Komachi worries about Sakurako, but eventually, she also becomes attracted to Hayato.

Reportedly, Skurako’s real age is 170 years old although she looks 20. She is particularly beautiful even among the vampires, but she has no experience with love. Komachi is actually 165 years old, but looks 20, and has a very vampire-like personality as she can be a little selfish and also has a cruel side.  On the other hand, Hayato is a good looking guy, trying to become a professional musician. He keeps himself above all the vulgarity around him, but has an arrogant attitude toward others.

“Vampire Heaven” is scheduled to air starting on April 12th (Every Friday at 12:52 am).

On February 24th, it was announced that actress Takanashi Rin is going to star in an upcoming TBS late-night drama titled ‘Houkago Groove‘.

Takanashi is known for her good looks and her vibrant on screen performances. She already gained global recognition as the heroine in Abbas Kiarostami’s Japanese-language film ‘Like Someone in Love‘ which screened at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. It’s her first time to star in a TV drama.

‘Arakawa Under the Bridge‘ director Iizuka Ken is set to direct the drama which was born from the fact that since April 2012, “dance” has become a part of the junior high school curriculum in Japan.

Takanashi is playing a physical education teacher with no dancing skills. Moreover, she used to be a delinquent (‘yankee’) during her student days and left school during senior high school, but thanks to her persistence and fighting spirit she somehow managed to become a teacher. She believes that you should always see something through once you got a taste of it.

Takanashi commented about her role, “When I heard about the story, I immediately wanted to get this role. A sports-minded former delinquent is a fresh character and a nice challenge. I’m already all excited about this.”

Director Iizuka is bound to give this drama a peculiar charm similar to his previous works and Takanashi is looking forward to work with him. She said, “I’ll work hard so that the viewers can enjoy all those surreal interactions between the characters.”
TBS is going to air ‘Houkago Groove’ every Monday shortly after midnight starting on April 22nd.

Dogged by a sexual assault scandal, actor Park Si Hoo has appointed a new defense counsel, as well as requesting a delay associated with his case.

On the afternoon of the 24th, his new law firm, Pureumae, announced that their client would not be attending the scheduled police interrogation session, due to be held later today. “Actor Park Si Hoo, due to circumstances, will not be going to the interrogation that had been scheduled for 7 PM today,” the firm stated.

“This afternoon, Mr. Park Si Hoo has named us as the defense lawyers for his case. We are planning on mounting a stronger defense than before and going on the offensive,” they said.

“According to the regulations behind the transfer of a prosecution case and its investigation, we have decided that this case, currently under investigation at the Gwangju Seobu Police Station, would be better served at the Gangnam Police Station. Today, we have filed paperwork asking for a transfer,” they said.

“Due to the circumstances and due process surrounding the above move, our client could not attend the interrogation session scheduled for today. We apologize and ask that people refrain from speculation,” Pureumae concluded.

Swordman <笑傲江湖>, Yu Zheng’s (于正) 40-episode adaptation of the Jin Yong (金庸) wuxia novel The Smiling, Proud Wanderer, will air is finale episode next week on Hunan TV. The serial has been receiving mixed critical reception from the audience, with both praises and criticisms. Fans of the original novel bashed the serial for its nonsensical story line and unfaithful adaptation. Other fans lauded the serial for its addictive storytelling fashion, also gushing at the Linghu Chong (Wallace Huo 霍建華) and Dongfang Bubai (Joe Chen 陳喬恩) pairing.

Yesterday, Chinese media sources spoiled that the ending of Swordman will dramatically differ from the novel’s ending. Dongfang, who initially plots to kill Linghu’s lover, Ren Yingying, in order to keep Linghu to herself, ultimately decides to save Ren’s life by giving her heart. This finale strongly resembles the ending to Wuershan’s (乌尔善) Painted Skin: The Resurrection < 画皮II>, in which the demon Xiaowei sacrifices herself to return the heart of Princess Jing, out of love for the protector, Huo Xin.

Yu Zheng denied the plagiarism allegations, claiming that Swordman had already ended production when Painted Skin: The Resurrection first opened in cinemas. Dongfang’s heart sacrifice arc was instead inspired by an Iranian novel Yu Zheng read a few years back.

In a press interview with actress Joe Chen, she expressed that she was expecting her character to generate mixed reception when she first took on the role. “I need a strong heart in order to face the viewers’ criticisms,” Joe joked. “I really like Dongfang’s character. I portrayed Dongfang Bubai in the way I perceived the role, and I want to thank those who support my portrayal of him.”

Yu Zheng’s decision to cast an actress to portray Dongfang Bubai was most likely inspired by the 1992 Hong Kong film, Swordsman II <笑傲江湖之東方不敗>, in which Dongfang was famously and classically portrayed by Taiwanese actress, Brigitte Lin (林青霞).

Open Ending

Many romantic elements were added in Yu Zheng’s Swordman. Among the most heatedly discussed topic was the triangle relationship involving Linghu, Dongfang and Ren Yingying (Yuan Shanshan 袁 姗姗). As Dongfang’s presence dramatically outnumbered Ren’s screentime, many more fans of the drama were beginning to support Linghu to choose Dongfang as his lover instead of Ren.

When fans asked if Yu Zheng would change the ending so Linghu would end up together with Dongfang, Yu Zheng said that Dongfang and Linghu were already “endgame” to begin with. The producer explained that the ambiguity of the ending will be able to satisfy the fans of both “Chongdong” and “Chongying.”

Bu Bu Jing Xin’s <步步惊心> Yongzheng Emperor, Nicky Wu (吳奇隆), is currently actively shooting the last few scenes for the espionage television drama, Severe Winter< 寒冬>. The action-packed serial, starring Nicky as the central character Deng Zihua, centers into a story of underground wit battles between Communist Chinese spies and Soviet Russian agents during the Second Sino-Japanese war.

Starring alongside Nicky is Korean pop singer and actress, Chae Yeon, the lover of Deng’s brother-in-law Chen Longhai, portrayed by Yao Gang (姚刚). Chae Yeon expressed that she became a fan of Nicky after watching Bu Bu Jing Xin, and was thrilled to be able to have the chance to work with him in Severe Winter.
Attracted to Nicky’s charisma in Bu Bu Jing Xin, Chae Yeon also gushed at Nicky’s electrifying eyes and kissable lips.

Nicky humorously replied, “So that’s the only thing you noticed?” Nicky then groaned that he would not be able to have any intimate scenes with Chae Yeon, exclaiming, “She will be with intimate my brother-in-law instead! Asked if “Fourteenth prince” Lin Gengxin (林更新), who is currently in a contractual dispute with his management company Chinese Entertainment Shanghai, will also return for the sequel, Nicky replied, “I haven’t heard news of him returning yet.”

Team H stands for a project group Jang and his musical partner and producer DJ Big Brother formed. While Jang has performed overseas before, this marks the first time for the duo to perform.

“Because this is Team H’s first tour, it’s extra special to me,” he said. “I am both very nervous and psyched to showcase my new album.”

After the concert in Hiroshima, Team H will perform in Kobe and Sapporo, then Shanghai, Thailand and Taiwan.

The 26-year-old Jang has attracted over 163,000 audience members in his pervious Asia Tour last year.

Signer-turned-actor Yoon Kye-sang and former Miss Korea, actress Lee Honey, are an item.

The announcement came from Yoon’s agency yesterday after paparazzi photos of the two on dates in Hannam-dong and Yichon-dong were posted on the Internet news Web site Sportsseoul.com. In the photos, Yoon and Lee are wearing matching sneakers.

According to Yoon’s agency, the two first got to know each other during the previous year’s Busan International Film Festival and met again at a fashion show a couple of months later.

“That’s how they began to develop a romantic relationship,” the agency said, adding they have been together for a month.

Meanwhile, rumors about Yoon and Lee began when they were spotted leaving for Bali on Jan. 17.

In response, the agencies for Yoon and Lee had said there was nothing between them.

Lee was traveling alone, while Yoon, a former member of boy band g.o.d, left for Bali to enjoy a family vacation.

A representative of Jambangee stated, “Lee Jong Seok, who started off as a model, was the face of Jambangee in 2012 and he did such a great job that we extended the contract.”

For Park Shin Hye, the company wanted to incorporate the adorable and bright image she’s shown in previous dramas into the brand.

Actor Park Si Hoo, who is currently under investigation for allegedly raping a 22-year-old aspiring celebrity, has appointed a lawyer from a leading law firm to defend him.

A law official told eNEWS, “Park Si Hoo recently asked a major law firm to defend him in the rape case he is currently embroiled in.”

An affiliate of the law firm, who met with an eNEWS reporter, said “It’s correct that we were asked to defend the case.” The affiliate remained mum, saying, “However, I can’t anything about the situation right now.”

The law firm representing Park Si Hoo is one of the top major law firms in the legal marget. It recently dove into the entertainment world to offer its legal consulting services.

The fact that Park Si Hoo has selected a leading law firm in Korea to represent him can be interpreted as his willing to do whatever it takes to set things straight and save his reputation.

The lawyer representing Park Si Hoo is known to be a talented individual when it comes to investigative action as well as criminal trial cases and is expected to act as a reinforcement for Park Si Woo, who is currently knee deep in hot water.

Park Si Hoo is under investigation for allegedly raping an aspiring celebrity he met through a celebrity acquaintance on February 15. It was revealed on February 22 that another 24-year-old male actor, who is Park Si Hoo’s junior, has also been implicated and charged by the victim for his involvement in the rape case.
