Magnificent Transformation to a Tough Guy
After appearing in Papa, BYJ took about a half-year to recharge his batteries and then appeared in the drama First Love which was a project of major transformation.

The drama obtained record viewer ratings of 65.8% and until the last episode aired, the drama grabbed the Korean viewers’ hearts and wouldn’t let go. BYJ, in the lead role, as an actor in name and real life secures an indisputable position.

During the six months, the media got tired of waiting for BYJ’s comeback and when FL began airing, they balanced their coverage by writing articles focusing on his muscled body and breaking new ground as an actor.

Most of the media that reported on BYJ breaking new ground in his acting gave him critical acclaim.

“Since appearing in Papa, I decided to stop appearing in quiet roles. Role model types are good but when you keep acting for a while, I began to think that even my own personality was becoming inflexible…”

When BYJ thought of discarding his previous image and was considering taking on a new role, he received the offer for FL and he gave his ready consent.
เมื่อเบยงจุนคิดสลัดภาพลักษณ์เดิมๆ และตัดสินใจรับบทบาทใหม่ เขาจึงรับเล่น FL ทั้งยังเตรียมตัวให้พร้อมสำหรับสิ่งนี้
But to completely change his image which the viewers were used to was not an ordinary thing to accomplish. BYJ originally was doing weight training but because of FL, he became a member of the Walker Hill training gym and began working out more than he previously imagined. Because his character did not wear glasses, he even had eye surgery done so that he could continue to act without his glasses.

Another factor that greatly changed BYJ’s image was the foreign language dialogue. In the drama, BYJ appears a number of times as a casino employee coming into contact with foreign guests. Originally, there were several staff to translate the written Korean script into English and German, but for some sudden reason, all foreign language staff were dropped. As a result, BYJ personally used a dictionary to translate all the necessary dialogue, and he asked the foreigners, who were acting in the roles of foreigners, to check his foreign language dialogue for correctness.

BYJ said that during the entire filming, an English conversation book was always by his side.

But when it came time to film the scenes to speak the foreign languages, BYJ said that he was so keyed up that he could not stop from breaking out in a cold sweat. Not only for actors but for anyone, it is not a simple thing to eliminate an image that was once completely formed. But BYJ with his unflagging efforts, he skillfully portrayed a hero with separate day and night personalities, and succeeded in destroying his existing image.
