”เพราะมันเป็นช่วงต้นๆ ของการถ่ายทำ เขากับผมต้องบังคับตัวเองให้ทำงานเข้าขากันให้ได้ แต่เขามีความมุ่งมั่นเหลือเกินในการจะแสดงให้ดีที่สุด เขาจึงไม่ยอมปล่อยให้มันผ่านไปง่ายๆ ทันทีที่ถ่ายซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่าอยู่นั่น พอผมบอกว่าโอเคเท่านั้นแหละ เขาทำท่าเหมือนจะเป็นลมไปตรงนั้นเลย ผลที่ได้ออกมาก็คือฉากนี้เป็นฉากที่ดีที่สุด แต่ในตอนนั้นผมคิดแค่ว่า BYJ เป็นนักแสดงที่น่าทึ่งจริง”

ถึงจะถ่ายซ้ำซากถึง 40 เทค ผู้กำกับเฮอบอกว่า BYJ ไม่บ่นเลยสักคำ “ดูเหมือนว่าสิ่งที่สำคัญที่สุดสำหรับเขาก็คือ เขาทำได้ตามความต้องการของผู้กำกับ 100 เปอร์เซ็นต์เต็มหรือไม่ อีกฉากหนึ่งที่ผมจำได้ดีก็คือฉากที่เขาต้องดื่มเหล้า และเขาก็ดื่มเหล้าจริงๆ ซะด้วย เขากับผมผลัดกันดื่มโซจูแล้วกล้องก็เริ่มถ่ายทำ แต่เรายังมีปัญหาอยู่อย่างก็คือ เขาห้ามเมา”

BYJ Faints

“Because it was in the early stage of filming,
he and I forced ourselves to be in sync
but he was so determined to put in his best performance
that he took hold of the role and wouldn’t let go.
Immediately after such persistence and I gave the OK,
it was as if he was ready to faint.
The end result was that this scene turned out to be the best scene
but, at that time, I remember being impressed thinking,
“Aah, BYJ is a very moving performer.”



Though there were 40 retakes,
Director Hur said that BYJ did not utter one word of complaint.
“It seemed that the most important thing for him was whether
he would be able to comply or not with the director’s request 100% of the time.
Another thing I remember vividly was the scene
where we filmed him drunk and had him actually drink alcohol.
He and I exchanged a glass of soju and the cameras began filming.
But he can hold his alcohol so we had a problem
because he couldn’t get drunk (laughs).”
He said that there are Japanese actors he would like to film.
“Nakatani Miki for a Japanese actress.
Also Sawajiri Erika. I think she gives detailed performances.
For actors, I like Tsumabuki Satoshi.”
