FUTURE 1
Work & Personal Space

Q: How do you switch between work and your personal life?
Q: คุณแบ่งเวลายังไงระหว่างงานกับชีวิตส่วนตัว
YJ: I'm very simple. But, err... when my eyes are open, that's 'work'; when I close my eyes, that's 'personal life'. When my eyes are closed, that's the time for sleep... Hehe... Anything else outside of that is work, I suppose. I guess that's the way it is for actors.
Actors not only are responsible for the work that they apppear in, it's also a profession that owes a certain sense of responsibility when it comes to personal life. So even if it's off days or rest time, I don't really feel that I'm resting during my personal time.
YJ: ง่ายมากครับ เวลาที่ผมลืมตา นั่นคือ “เวลางาน” เวลาที่ผมหลับตา นั่นคือ “เวลาส่วนตัว” เวลาที่ผมหลับตา นั่นคือเวลานอนไงครับ นอกจากนั้นก็คืองานทั้งหมด ผมว่านั่นคือชีวิตของนักแสดงครับ นักแสดงไม่เพียงแต่ต้องรับผิดชอบการแสดงเท่านั้น แต่เป็นอาชีพที่ต้องมีสำนึกรับผิดชอบในชีวิตจริงด้วย ถึงแม้จะเป็นวันว่างหรือเวลาพักผ่อน ผมไม่รู้สึกว่าได้พักผ่อนจริงๆ สักที แม้จะเป็นเวลาส่วนตัวก็ตาม

Q: Do you feel that your body is resting during your off days?
Q: คุณรู้สึกว่าร่างกายได้พักผ่อนบ้างมั้ยในวันว่าง
YJ: There're many people supporting me, and that allows me to have the opportunity to gain many different types of experience. Without everyone's support, it will be very difficult, and I cannot carry on being an actor.
YJ: มีผู้คนมากมายคอยให้การสนับสนุนผมอยู่ นั่นทำให้ผมมีโอกาสได้รับประสบการณ์แบบต่างๆ ถ้าไม่มีแรงสนับสนุนของทุกคนก็คงลำบากมากๆ และผมคงเป็นนักแสดงต่อไปไม่ได้

Q: What would you want to do if you have 10 days off?
Q: คุณอยากทำอะไรถ้ามีวันว่างสัก 10 วัน
YJ: I don't want to take a 10-day break. Haha... That will disrupt the momentum of my life... Haha... En.... (Suddenly becomes serious)
There's an actor who shared about this incident. A friend had passed away, and when attending his funeral, what type of feeling should he be harbouring during the moment of paying his last respects to the friend? I was thinking about this from the angle of an actor. That's very shocking, right?
YJ: ผมไม่อยากพักยาวถึง 10 วันหรอกครับ นั่นคงทำให้ชีวิตของผมเสียศูนย์แย่เลย
มีนักแสดงท่านหนึ่งได้แบ่งปันเรื่องราวนี้ของเขา มีเพื่อนคนหนึ่งตายจากไป แล้วเมื่อได้ไปร่วมงานศพของเขา ความรู้สึกแบบไหนกันที่เขาแบกรับอยู่ระหว่างที่กำลังเคารพศพเพื่อนเป็นครั้งสุดท้าย ผมคิดถึงเรื่องนี้จากมุมมองของนักแสดง มันน่าตกใจมากใช่มั้ยครับ

I don't have such feelings (or experience). But (the incident) spells out how an actor's job relates to (his) life itself. That's the feeling of acting out the role of Bae Yong Joon.
I think each and every one of us will play our own roles. But an actor needs to portray many different types of characters and roles, so he will have to understand and analyze feelings and emotions in an objective and clinical manner... No matter what, it's no easy for an actor to easily differentiate or demarcate between work and his personal life; it's only during sleeping and being awake that can be clearly separated. This is how I do it. I think of it as 'enjoying it to the maximum, this is not work!'
ผมไม่เคยมีความรู้สึกแบบนั้นมาก่อน แต่นั่นเป็นการบ่งบอกว่าอาชีพนักแสดงเกี่ยวข้องกับชีวิตยังไง นั่นเป็นความรู้สึกจากการสวมบทบาทเป็นเบยงจุน ผมคิดว่าเราทุกคนล้วนต้องเล่นไปตามบทบาทของตัวเอง แต่นักแสดงต้องแสดงบทบาทหลากหลาย เขาจึงต้องมีความเข้าใจและวิเคราะห์อารมณ์ความรู้สึกทั้งสิ่งที่อยู่ในใจและการแสดงออกมาเป็นกิริยาท่าทาง มันไม่ใช่เรื่องง่ายสำหรับนักแสดงที่จะแยกแยะระหว่างงานและเรื่องส่วนตัว มีแค่ช่วงเวลาที่หลับและตื่นเท่านั้นที่จะแยกให้เห็นได้อย่างชัดเจน นี่คือสิ่งที่ผมทำ ผมคิดแบบนี้ครับ “สนุกกับมันให้เต็มที่ นี่ไม่ใช่การทำงาน”



Q: What would you like to do if you take a year off?
Q: คุณอยากทำอะไรถ้าได้พักงานสัก 1 ปี
YJ: If I've a year off, erhm... I want to go to a country where they don't know about this person Bae Yong Joon. To get in touch with that country's culture, and to have exchanges and communication with the people there, make friends... I would like to have a holiday like that.
YJ: ถ้าผมมีเวลาพักสัก 1 ปี ผมอยากไปประเทศที่ไม่มีใครรู้จักเบยงจุน ได้ไปสัมผัสกับวัฒนธรรมของประเทศนั้น ได้แลกเปลี่ยนและสื่อสารกับผู้คนที่นั่น ได้คบหาผู้คน ผมอยากมีวันหยุดแบบนั้นแหละครับ



FUTURE 2
The World of Photography

Q: Please talk about your hobby, photography.
Q: ช่วยพูดถึงการถ่ายภาพ งานอดิเรกของคุณ
YJ: I like and really enjoy photography. Err... It's wanting to capture the realism of the subject. But it's very difficult. Because... photography requires staring at the subject for a long period of time, in search of the (perfect) timing to press the shutter, that's very hard (when I am) in Korea.
En, even if I go out in a disguise, I will still be discovered and recognized. Can't carry out photography as my heart desires, it's not easy.
YJ: ผมชอบและสนุกกับการถ่ายภาพจริงๆ เป็นความต้องการจับภาพสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นจริงๆ แต่มันยากลำบากมากเลย เพราะการถ่ายภาพต้องจับจ้องวัตถุนั้นอยู่เป็นเวลานาน เพื่อค้นหาเวลาเหมาะๆ ที่จะกดชัตเตอร์ นั่นทำได้ยากมากสำหรับผมเวลาอยู่ที่เกาหลี ถึงผมจะปลอมตัวออกไป ก็ยังมีคนเจอและจำได้อยู่ดี ผมจึงไม่อาจถ่ายภาพได้อย่างใจปรารถนา มันไม่ง่ายเลยครับ

Q: Please say something about the pictures you've taken.
Q: ช่วยพูดถึงภาพที่คุณถ่ายมาหน่อย
YJ: (flipping through the photo album) Actually these pictures are not taken as artistic pictures or anything like that. These were taken from moving vehicles or inside the aircraft cabins using a small camera that I often bring with me.
This was in Japan. Taken from the plane on the way to Osaka. This was taken from the hotel in Osaka... The beautiful sky. Erhm... and this photo is the nightscene taken from the hotel room in Tokyo. This are the family. En, I also took pictures of some other stuff.
YJ: (พลิกดูอัลบั้มภาพ) ภาพพวกนี้ไม่ได้ถ่ายแบบใช้ศิลปะอะไรมากมายนักครับ ภาพพวกนี้ถ่ายจากรถที่กำลังวิ่งหรือจากในเครื่องบินโดยใช้กล้องตัวเล็กที่ผมพกติดตัว
ภาพนี้เป็นตอนที่ไปญี่ปุ่น ถ่ายจากเครื่องบินตอนไปโอซาก้า ภาพนี้ถ่ายจากโรงแรมในโอซาก้า ท้องฟ้าสวยดีนะครับ แล้วภาพนี้เป็นวิวตอนกลางคืนถ่ายจากห้องในโรงแรมที่โตเกียว อันนี้เป็นแฟนๆ ของผมครับ ผมยังถ่ายภาพอื่นๆ มาด้วย



FUTURE 3
The Bridge of Cultural Exchange

Q: Heard that you're going to release a book, what kind of book will it be?
Q: ได้ยินมาว่าคุณจะทำหนังสือ เป็นหนังสือแบบไหน
YJ: We're now working on a book that introduces Korean culture.
After this, I will be doing photography in various places. If we talk about the intention of planning the release of this book, it's because when overseas friends and family ask me, 'What are Korea's places of interest?', I am unable to really give good answers, and I feel sad about this. Towards Korea, the country which has bred and raised me, I feel both shocked and sorry that I know so little about my own motherland.
YJ: ตอนนี้เรากำลังทำหนังสือแนะนำวัฒนธรรมเกาหลี หลังจากนี้ (การสัมภาษณ์นี้ถ่ายทำเมื่อเดือน พ.ย. ปี 2008) ผมจะไปถ่ายภาพตามที่ต่างๆ ถ้าจะพูดถึงเจตนาในการจัดทำหนังสือเล่มนี้ มันเป็นเพราะเวลาเพื่อนๆ และแฟนๆ ต่างชาติถามผมว่า “เกาหลีมีอะไรน่าสนใจบ้าง” ผมไม่อาจให้คำตอบที่ดีได้ และผมก็รู้สึกเสียใจที่เป็นแบบนั้น เกาหลีเป็นประเทศที่ผมเกิดและเติบโตมา ผมรู้สึกทั้งตกใจและเสียใจที่รู้น้อยมากๆ เกี่ยวกับแผ่นดินเกิดของตัวเอง



As an actor, I do go for filming at various filming sites, however, there aren't many opportunities for personal travel. Because I didn't have the chance to understand in detail my own country's culture, I thought of using this opportunity to learn, and then to share my learning with friends and family. So we started planning on this book.
I think the completed project will be a book that is something in between a book on humanities and a travel guidebook. And then... tentatively, we also plan to add in meaningful or interesting stories that we will come across during our trips all over Korea. I want to publish a book that not only will appeal to the foreigners, but also a book that Koreans will be interested in.
ในฐานะนักแสดง ผมไปถ่ายทำตามสถานที่ต่างๆ แต่ไม่มีโอกาสมากนักที่จะเที่ยวชม เพราะผมไม่มีโอกาสทำความเข้าใจเรื่องราววัฒนธรรมของประเทศตัวเอง ผมคิดว่าจะใช้โอกาสนี้เรียนรู้ แล้วแบ่งปันสิ่งที่ผมรู้มากับเพื่อนๆ และแฟนๆ เราจึงเริ่มวางแผนทำหนังสือเล่มนี้ ผมคิดว่าเมื่อเสร็จงานนี้จะได้หนังสือที่มีทั้งเรื่องราวของผู้คน และเป็นทั้งคู่มือท่องเที่ยว แล้วเรายังกะว่าจะสอดแทรกสิ่งที่มีความหมาย หรือเรื่องราวที่น่าสนใจ ที่เราได้พบเจอมาระหว่างการเดินทางทั่วเกาหลี เข้าไปในหนังสือเล่มนี้ด้วย ผมอยากทำหนังสือที่ไม่ใช่แค่ดึงดูดใจชาวต่างชาติ แต่ยังเป็นหนังสือที่คนเกาหลีเองก็ให้ความสนใจด้วย

Q: You have been appointed as the Tourism Ambassador for Korea, how do you feel about it?
Q: คุณได้รับการแต่งตั้งให้เป็นทูตท่องเที่ยว คุณรู้สึกยังไงบ้าง
YJ: When I was planning this book to introduce Korea, I was appointed as the ambassador. I think the timing is just right, and I feel immensely honored about this. But also because the responsibility is a big one, I do feel a bit of pressure.
YJ: ตอนที่ผมวางแผนทำหนังสือเล่มนี้เพื่อแนะนำเกาหลี ผมก็ได้รับการแต่งตั้งให้เป็นทูตท่องเที่ยว ผมคิดว่าเวลาช่างพอเหมาะ ผมรู้สึกเป็นเกียรติอย่างยิ่ง แต่เพราะเป็นภาระที่ยิ่งใหญ่ ผมจึงรู้สึกกดดันเล็กน้อย



FUTURE 4
His Works

Q: Please talk about your future works.
Q: ช่วยพูดถึงงานในอนาคตของคุณหน่อย
YJ: Later... Winter Sonata will be made into an anime, I will be challenging the work of being a voiceover artist. Because this is my first timing challenging this, so I have been looking forward to it even now. We target to go into recording in 1-2 months' time.
We're (also) planning a drama adapted from a Japanese manga, but it's still in the planning stage, so I cannot release details. But I think we will be able to give everyone a report in the near future.
YJ: Winter Sonata กำลังจะทำเป็นการ์ตูน ผมจะได้ทำงานที่ท้าทายคือการพากย์เสียง เพราะนี่เป็นครั้งแรกของผมที่ได้ทำสิ่งท้าทายเช่นนี้ ผมจึงเฝ้ารอคอย เรากำหนดไว้ว่าจะเริ่มบันทึกเสียงในอีก 1-2 เดือน เรายังวางแผนจะทำละครที่ดัดแปลงมาจากการ์ตูนญี่ปุ่น แต่ตอนนี้ยังอยู่ในขั้นตอนวางแผนงาน ผมจึงยังบอกรายละเอียดอะไรไม่ได้ แต่คิดว่าเราคงรายงานข่าวให้ทุกคนได้ทราบในไม่ช้านี้
