K-pop tycoon Lee Soo-man was given a plaque of appreciation by Culture Minister Choung Byoung-gug on Wednesday in recognition of his contribution to promoting Korean pop music all over the world.

Lee (59), the president of SM Entertainment, has been a pioneer of overseas promotion for more than a decade, starting with a concert he organized by the then hugely popular boy band H.O.T in Beijing in 2000. More recently, a bevy of stars from his company's stable gave successful concerts in Paris in June.

"Now that K-pop is spreading around the world through social networking sites like YouTube and Facebook, we need to develop more viable domestic content", Lee told Choung after the event. "H.O.T. and singer BoA achieved huge success here first, and that enabled them to go abroad. We need to improve the digital sound source market, including new marketing techniques".

Korean expats and foreigners are learning Korean by listening to K-pop, he claimed. He suggested the government build a school where young people from around the world can learn about Korean pop culture -- not only music but also TV dramas and films.

Cr. - http://english.kbs.co.kr/

YG Entertainment, home to 2NE1 and Big Bang, released plans of debuting new groups for next year.

Yang Hyun-suk, head of YG, revealed through Korean media sources that there will be a number of new acts to look forward to, including solo acts, slated for 2011. For one, a YG version of Girls' Generation will hit the scene the first half of 2012. Yang stressed that this group will not only be talented, but very pretty...like Girls' Generation.

YG is one of the three biggest entertainment agencies in Korea, enough reason for everyone to perk up at the new update. In fact, this is a surprising direction YG decided to take, being that they were always one of the agencies that picked those with talent over looks.

When this was brought up, Yang said that there are a lot of trainees that have both looks and talents. He assured the public that the YG version of Girls' Generation will still have YG's style. He also revealed that although groups like Big Bang trained for five years, due to improvements in YG's system, two years is more appropriate for current trainees.

Yang added that YG plans on producing the next Big Bang and next 2NE1.

On another note, the entertainment head mentioned how it's important for YG to produce acts that have a unique sound or image. Yang said, "If you take a look at all the major YG acts -- Big Mama, Se7en, Gummy, Big Bang, 2NE1 -- they all have that unique sound".

The secured cast for the musical remake of “200 Pound Beauty” has finally been announced this week.

The role of the cool-headed, charismatic producer ‘Han Sang Jun‘ has been appointed to actors Lee Jong Hyun and Oh Man Suk; Supernova’s Sung Je will have a special performance for when the musical arrives in Osaka, Japan.

Meanwhile, the character of the previously overweight singer, Kang Han Byul/Jenny will be performed by singer Bada and KARA’s Park Gyuri.

Other cast members include CulTwo’s Kim Tae Kyun and musical actor Yang Jun Mo, who will be acting the role of the plastic surgeon, Lee Gong Hak, while Song Young Kyu and Im Hyung Jun will be acting as President Choi, a producer CEO who strictly prefers appearance over talent.

“200 Pounds Beauty” is a romantic comedy about an overweight lip-sync vocalist named Han Byul who owns an amazing vocal talent, but was always forced to hide herself behind the curtain due to her less-than-attractive physical appearance. After being humiliated in front of her true love, Han Byul decides to undergo head-to-toe plastic surgery in the hopes of standing on stage as a top singer.

The original musical was performed in 2008 with Bada playing as Han Byul, and it later won a total of four awards at the 3rd ‘The Musical Awards’ ceremony in 2009 for the “Best Musical Creativity Award”, “Best Actress” (Bada), “Best Director Award”, and “Best Stage Art Award” (Makeup designer Chae Song Hwa).

Designer Chae Song Hwa’s drama makeup will be more delicate and naturally upgraded to the extent where people will almost mistake Han Byul and Jenny as two different people.”

“200 Pound Beauty” will be kick-starting their Asia tour in October, beginning with performances in Osaka followed by performances in Seoul, China and Singapore.

[Article] History's Queen Inhyeon in "Dong Yi"

Queen Inhyeon of King Sukjong of Joseon :
Queen Inhyeon (1667–1701), Daughter of Min Yoo-jung and Lady Song, she became Sukjong's second Queen by marriage in 1681. She is perhaps one of the best known Queens of the Joseon dynasty. Her life was portrayed in many Korean historical dramas. When Jang (given name: Ok-jeong) so-ui produced a son in 1688, it created a bloody dispute called Gisa Sahwa. During this time, Sukjong wanted to give this eldest son the title of Crown Prince and wanted to promote Lady Jang from So-ui to Hee-bin. This action was opposed by the Noron faction (headed by Song Si-yeol, with Min Yoo-jung (Inhyeon's father) as member), and this was supported by the Soron faction (of which Jang Hee-jae ((then) Jang so-ui's older brother) was a member). Sukjong became angry at the opposition, and many were killed including Song Si-yeol. Many, including Inhyeon and her family, were forced into exile. Jang so-ui became Jang Hee-bin, and then became the Queen, with the title of Grand Concubine Oksan (Oksan Taebin).

Later in 1694, Sukjong, feeling remorse at his temperamental actions, gave in to a movement for Inhyeon's reinstatement, which was led by the Soron (this event was called the Gapsul Hwanguk) She was brought back to the palace and reinstated as Queen, with Lady Jang being demoted to Hee-bin. In 1701, age 35, she became ill and died of an unknown disease. It has been said that Jang Hee-bin brought a Shamanist priestess into the palace and prayed for the Queen's death. When this was discovered by Sukjong, she was executed for her actions (by poison). One of the Queen's lady's maids wrote a book called Inhyeon Wanghu Jeon (Queen Inhyeon's Story) which still exists today. She is buried in Myeong-reung in Kyeonggi Province, and Sukjong was later buried near her in the same area. She has no issue to Sukjong.

She is given the posthumous title "Queen Inhyeon, Hyogyeong Sukseong Jangsun Wonhwa Uiyeol Jeongmok" (효경숙성장순원화의열정목인현왕후 孝敬淑聖莊純元化懿烈貞穆仁顯王后).
