Jang Keun-suk will release his second album in Japan, breaking a year hiatus, according to local media news reports.

Reports quoted Japanese music chart Oricon yesterday as saying that Jang will release the new album “Nature Boy” on May 29.

His previous album “Just Crazy” came out in May last year and swept the first spot on daily and weekly music charts there.

The new album will be released in two formats: CD and DVD. Jang composed the Korean song “Love Letter” on the album.

Joo Won picked Choi Kang Hee from “7th Grade Civil Servant“ as the best partner he’s had as an actor during his interview with reporters on April 9. He said, “I’ve learned a lot through this drama, but I would say that my biggest achievement is gaining my freedom. And Choi Kang Hee was very influential in doing so.”

Joo Won refers to the ability to use one’s imagination freely under any circumstances as “freedom.” He praised Choi Kang Hee, “Choi Kang Hee has very innocent imagination. For example, whenever we do a romantic scene together, the outcome is usually very pretty. This is all from Choi Kang Hee’s imagination. I learned so much from working with her.”

For the same reason, Joo Won picked Choi Kang Hee as his best partner. He explained, “Of course, I had good chemistry with Eugene, Uee, and Jin Se Yeon. But not as much as I did with Choi Kang Hee. When I was doing ‘King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo,’ I was new to TV drama industry so I didn’t even have time to process anything, and Uee and I were both rookies in ‘Ojakgyo Brothers.’ She and I were busy cheering each other up. In comparison to these dramas, I didn’t really get a chance to interact with Jin Se Yeon much during ‘Bridal Mask.’”

But with Choi Kang Hee and “7th Grade Civil Servant,” everything was different from his previous roles and experiences. Joo Won said, “I spent a lot of time with Choi Kang Hee because we had a lot of scenes together. So we just practiced our lines together until filming, and this allowed me to just memorize my lines without having to put much effort into it. Towards the end, we had a great partner chemistry and all of the staff recognized it too. I was very satisfied with it.”

However, great chemistry and partnership did not mean that everything was easy and comfortable between the two actors. After the romantic relationship between the main characters fully developed on screen, Joo Won and Choi Kang Hee had many kiss scenes. Joo Won confessed his struggles with these scenes, “At first, I was anticipating it. I was all nervous, ‘I’m finally doing the kiss scene.’ And then there were none of that for a while until the end.

When the time came again, I guess we were both a little tired, so we just went for it. However, I was worried and confused; I couldn’t help it. I didn’t know if I should just put my lips on hers and stay that way or move a little bit. As I was moving my lips, I was wondering if this is respectful to her or not. I even asked her, ‘Should I just stay put and not move?’ and she told me to do whatever I want to do.”

Joo Won picked the film “Only You” as his next step. Kim Ah Joong will be playing his partnering role in the film. He commented, “Every time I get into a new drama or film, I get all these mixed feelings. However, I’m equally nervous and excited about this next step. I will do my best and continue to impress my fans and viewers.”

Based on the popular novel, followed by an even popular drama, The Moon that Embraces the Sun will be adapted into a musical.

On April 11, the production company revealed the cast for the music, which include actors Kim Da Hyun, Jeon Dong Seok, Sung Doo Seop, Jo Kang Hyung, Jeon Mi Do, and more. 

“The musical consists of talented musical actors and more than 20 ensemble members,” said the company. “Instead of using idols or TV stars, the musical consists of an all musical actor cast.”

The Moon that Embraces the Sun is the first love story between king and shaman that have a history of fateful meetings.

The musical will begin with preview performances from June 8 to 23 in Yong In Cultural Foundation, and later at the Seoul Arts Center from July 6 to 31.

Actress Lee Young-ae was accused of defamation by a local businessman running a food company, according to local media reports yesterday. The businessman also accused an agency that has a copyright deal with Lee.

The disputes between the businessman and Lee started in 2011 as the food company used a photo of Lee in MBC drama “Dae Jang Geum” for an advertisement.

At the time, Lee said the businessman had never signed a copyright deal on photo use and would consider legal action.

No lawsuit was filed then, but the businessman recently filed a suit against Lee saying that the actress hurt the company’s brand.

Lee’s legal representatives said that the agency had forged Lee’s seal and illegally signed a contract with the food company.

The legal team yesterday said that it will collect necessary evidence and review whether to take legal action against the company or agency.

On April 10, Lee Byeong Hun and Han Ga In attended the 9th Chinese Hwa Ding Awards and the 2013 Chinese Movie Satisfaction Index Awards.

At the event, both Lee and Han walked down the red carpet in black as if they had planned in advance to come as a matching pair.

Han Ga In was dressed in subdued grace. She wore an off-the shoulder, long black dress that showed off her beautiful figure. Lee Byung Hun also chose the proper fashion protocol for the awards, appearing in all black items except for his white shirt: black shoes, black suit, black bow tie, and even a black handkerchief peeking out of his lapel pocket.

The Taiwanese artiste reportedly plans to marry his Singaporean girlfriend Arissa Cheo on her birthday in July.

Vanness previously revealed in an interview that he wants to have six kids but worries about being “too old” to play with them by then. In order to fulfil his dream, the 34-year-old is speculated to be marrying his girlfriend Arissa Cheo on her 30th birthday (July 30) this year.

It was also said that the Taiwanese artiste has been working hard to save up for the wedding. According to the Taiwanese media, Vanness raked in NT$1.2 million (approximately S$50,000) from his recent appearance in Jiangsu TV’s High Dive: Stars in Danger program.

With the rapid spread of H7N9 bird flu virus in mainland China, the cast and crew of "Always and Ever" (originally titled "Love Reverses Three Lifetimes of Fate") are wary about their safety as they travel to Fushan to begin shooting.

As reported on Popular Asians website, the drama's lead actors – Bobby Au Yeung and Esther Kwan took extra precaution by travelling separately in private cars while supporting casts; Ngo Ka Nin, Mandy Wong and Rebecca Zhu packed extra items for flu prevention.

Meanwhile, TVB also did its part to ensure the casts' safety, including cancelling media on-set visits, and renting out a local restaurant to serve its crew during the twenty-day work trip, eliminating risks of food contamination.

Mandy, who is also filming "The Hippocratic Crush 2", stated, "I am feeling under the weather since filming back to back. My family is very worried. They prepared face masks, hand sanitizer, and instant noodles to protect me from the flu."

Actor Lee Jun Ki is revealed to be in talks to participate in new drama ‘Times of Inspiration’.

His management agency expressed on April 11th, “Lee Jun Ki has received an offer to appear in ‘Times of Inspiration’, but we are still in discussions, so nothing has been decided yet.”

The drama is based on a comic of the same name by Bang Hak Gi, who is known for his creation of ‘Damo’. It is set in Shanghai, China during the 1930s era about the youths who experience hurt through experiences of love, friendship, patriotism, and desires.

Lee Jun Ki is being offered the role of the main hero who looks ordinary and dim-witted usually, but is actually a mean and awesome fighter of the streets, and a great romantist.

The drama is scheduled for broadcast in the latter half of 2013 through KBS 2TV.

On April 10, KBS announced that several KBS shows won significant awards at “2013 New York Festival – World’s Best TV & Films” in Las Vegas.

Documentary “KBS Special – Kim Jong Il” won the silver world medal in Current Affairs category under “Television – Documentary/Information Programs” and another impressive documentary “Icarus’s Dream” was given the bronze world medal in Sports and Recreation category.

KBS “Princess’s Man” was the only Korean drama that brought home a medal. The show won bronze world medal in Drama category under “Television – Regularly Scheduled Entertainment Program.” MBC “Moon that Embraces the Sun” was also nominated under the Mini-series category, but only received a finalist certificate.

Meanwhile, “New York Festival” is an overall award show for any TV program, including news, documentary, drama, entertainment, and so on. “2013 New York Festival” was its 55th award show and more than 50 countries participated in the event.

Having an excuse to cry can be a good thing. When I first started watching kdramas, I wondered, what's with all the crying? I don't remember seeing American actors cry that often or their tears occupying so much of my screen time. And how come Korean actors are so good at it? Do they have a special class on crying in Korean acting schools?

It was a curious experience to see people crying on screen for so long because it really connects you emotionally to the character. And before I knew it I was hooked on regular crying/watching marathons.

"That Winter The Wind Blows" is a wonderful example of a tissue-worthy drama but as tragic as the story was, it does not earn my "super sobber" award.

Probably the two best criers I have seen in a kdrama were Yoon Eun Hye as Soo Hyeon and Park Yoo Chun as Jung Woo in "I Miss You." Between them they cried an ocean of tears.

True, it's a tragic story of love, loss and betrayal, but I think countries experiencing a drought might want to keep those two actors on speed dial.

Also excellent criers in the same drama were the actors who played the characters as adolescents: Kim So Hyun as the 15-year-old Seo Hyeon and Yeo Jin Ku as the young Jung Woo. His self-loathing tear-stained face is particularly heartbreaking.

Yeo Jin-Ku also cried a lot in another of my favorite tear-inducing kdramas, "The Moon Embracing The Sun."

In "The Moon Embracing The Sun," the actor plays a fictional Joseon Dynasty prince and king. At age 15, he falls in love with 13-year-old Heo Yon Woo, played by Kim Yoo Jung, but their love is doomed by political intrigues. It's a tale of magic, the healing power of love and the corrosive power of jealousy. His young "I Miss You" co-star Kim So Hyun plays Heo Yon Woo's rival for his affections in the historical drama. If dramas could be rated on the number of tears they produce, on a scale of one to five, I would give this one five tears.

 

Another sob-worthy drama is "Padam, Padam." In this drama, a man serving jail time for a murder he did not commit is saved by an inmate claiming to be an angel. He hears that he will have three near-death miracles and to survive, he must learn from them.

The romance fantasy series starred Jung Woo-Sun as Yang Kang Chil, Ha Ji Min as Jung Ji Na and Kim Beom as Lee Gook Su. The plot's miracles, angels and chances at redemption won't leave you dry eyed. I give this one five tears too.

So the next time, you have tissues to spare and a need to let it all out, check out these dramas and get ready to weep. You'll-sob-feel so much better.

The MBC drama Gu Family Book has already been sold overseas even though it has only aired two episodes in Korea.

An MBC rep said on April 10 that "Gu Family Book has been sold to the Philippines, Hong Kong and Cambodia even before its full story has been revealed."

The rep added, "We can′t reveal any details about how much it was sold for, but it′s close to the amount The Sun and the Moon was paid. We′re in talks with other countries other than the three mentioned, so sales will definitely rise."

Gu Family Book has been scheduled to air for 24 episodes, and with its first two episodes managed to top the viewership ratings chart for its time slot. Commercial slots are already sold out up to episode eight, proving the expectations being put on the drama.

The feat was managed even without appearances from the main leads, Lee Seung Gi and miss A′s Suzy.

Mainland Chinese drama Red Dust <滾滾紅塵> recently began airing on television channels in Shanghai and Hunan. Starring Hong Kong actor Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) and mainland Chinese actress Qin Lan (秦嵐), Red Dust has attracted much attention from viewers due to its intriguing mixture of love and espionage.

Although Red Dust shares the same name as the 1990 film starring Taiwanese actors Brigitte Lin (林青霞) and Qin Han (秦漢), the storylines are not quite related. The new TV drama is set during the Republic era, and its main focus is the history of the Second Sino-Japanese War. From there, it interweaves issues such as national crises, love and friendship, and the economy, thus creating a historical atmosphere with its multi-layered story.

In Red Dust, Kevin plays an underground Communist Party member for the first time. His character, Yu Lifan, is a handsome, quick-witted, and cool-headed revolutionary who is employed as a secret service agent for the Communist Party. While in Shanghai, he meets his first love Gu Haitang (Qin Lan), who was sold to a brothel several years ago after the death of her parents. Out of desperation, Haitang agrees to transport firearms for Lifan, but is arrested and later forced to leave the Shanghai French Concession. Soon, they find events spiraling out of their control, as Lifan is put on the wanted list for assassinating a key member of the Nationalist Party and Haitang braves death to help him escape.

Even though this was their first time working together, Kevin and Qin Lan had good chemistry together. Red Dust also marks the first espionage-themed drama that Kevin has participated in since entering the mainland Chinese television entertainment industry.

The drama’s director, Man Kit Poon (潘文杰), who was nominated for Best Director in the 1992 Hong Kong Film Awards, shared that the filming style for Red Dust was deliberately meant to resemble that of a film. “This drama’s camera language, editing techniques, and background music all adopted movie-like production methods,” he said. “I believe that after it airs, it will give viewers an impression of complete newness.”

A memorial event will be held to commemorate Korean Singer and actor Park Yong-ha in Japan.
 

Park Yong-ha died in 2010. With many of his fans still remaining in Japan, “2013 Park Yong-ha Memories Tour In Japan“ will be held to mark the third anniversary of his death from April 13 to 28.
 
He was best known for his role in Asia as Sang-hyuk in the smash hit TV series "Winter Sonata" (KBS2, 2002), Park led an active acting career in Korea since his debut in 2004, last starring in drama "The Slingshot" and film "The Scam" last year.


The tour will be first held at Tokyo in 13 and will be held at Fukuoka, Osaka, Nagoya, and Sapporo. It will be held 20 times at a five different cities from April 13 to 28.
 

“2013 Park Yong-ha Memories Tour In Japan“ will introduce unreleased clips of Park Yong-ha. The program also includes the inauguration ceremony of a charity” Park Yong-ha One Love Charity“ which is founded to continue the good will activities of Park and the Yong-ha School in Chad, Africa.
 
“People in Japan still commemorate late Korean actor Park Yong-ha who took his own life. They even made a day (every April 8) and call it the Park Yong-ha Day” said his brother-in-law who is also an CEO of the Yong-ha Entertainment Agency. He added that “The Japanese fans are still unable to let Park Yong-ha go and still paying their respects to Park Yong-ha.”

Park Yong-ha was discovered dead at his house June 30, 2010. He was 33 years old.

Korean female talents Lee Seung-yeon, Park Si-yeon and Jang Mi In Ae have been accused by the Seoul Metropolitan Police with illegal and habitual use of psychoactive drug.
 
The three actresses attended the second hearing of the case where they were accused of inveterate use of propofol at the Seoul Central District Court on April 8.
 
During the hearing, they all admitted to using propofol but insisted that it was for medical and beauty treatments and that they have no dependence upon the drug.
 
Lee and Park partly admitted to getting injections but protested their innocence adding that it was part of proper practice as prescribed by their physicians, who are also accused of the illegal prescriptions.
 
The “Missing You” starlet Jang asked to separate her case from Lee and Park’s since she wasn't even aware of the practice, but the prosecution refuted it based on circumstantial evidence.
 
According to the prosecution’s office, Park is suspected of injecting propofol 185 times, Lee for 111 times and Jang for 95 times between 2011 and 2012.
 
The accused stars and prosecution displayed an acute state of confrontation, department of justice decided to open the trial again two weeks from now. The next hearing is scheduled for April 22.

TV personality Hyun Yeong, who was accused for injecting propofol for 42 times, received a summary order of eight million Korean Won [about 7,023 U.S. Dollars] fine on March 19.
 

It is the second time for Lee Seung-yeon, a star from the 90s’, to halt her activities since being embroiled in a controversy where she was accused of belittling comfort women. She was featured as a comfort woman in a photo book in 2004.
 
The same year, Lee made a successful comeback to the big screen with her role in film director Kim Ki-duk’s Venice-winning film “3-iron.”

This case of the four familiar faces is being hailed as a shamful example by members of the Korean press as demonstratin the habitual use of propofol for beauty treatment, which are especially rampant among beauty clinics in Seoul's Gangnam area.

An official from the prosecution’s office said in a news report that, “the propofol misuse is a growing trend among celebrities, doctors, workers in pharmaceutical companies and adult entertainment establishments.”

The case follows the drug-related situation involving another Korean star. One month ago, Korean idol group DMTN’s lead vocal Daniel Choi pleaded guilty to a charge of selling marijuana and stepped down from his MC position on "Pops in Seoul," one of the flagship programs on Arirang TV.

Following in the footsteps of the MBC’s epic drama “The King’s Doctor,” the channel's latest series “The Gu Family Book” landed at the top of the chart by drawing in an average viewership of 11.95 percent during the week of April 8 and 9, TNmS [Total National Multimedia Statistic] showed on Wednesday.

The period-set fantasy drama “The Gu Family Book” stars two top singer/actor, Lee Seung-gi and Suzy of Miss A. This drama contains elements of fusion martial arts action. The story centers on a half human and half monster in search of a book that holds information on becoming fully human.

Next up on the chart is “The Queen of Office.” It focuses on a character called Miss Lee, a perfectionist in the office. The comedy drama scored an average of 11.4 percent viewership during April 8 and 9.

As the love story in the drama started to develop, “The Queen of Office” grabbed more viewers compared to last week.

Following the end of SBS’s top-of-the-chart drama ‘Queen of Ambition,” Kim Tae-hee and Yu Ah-in are back with the new fusion costume drama “Jang Ok-jun, Live for Love” on April 8. The drama grabbed an average viewership of 10.2 percent.

“Jang Ok-jung, Live for Love” is a reinterpretation of the story about Jang Ok-jung also known as Jang Hee-bin in the Josean Dynasty. Jang Ok-jung was a royal concubine notorious for her ruthless ways of attaining power.

Meanwhile, Nielson Korea showed the programs in a slightly different order from the TNmS figures during April 8 and 9.

Here, “The Queen of Office” is No. 1 of the chart with an average viewership of 12.2 percent. “The Gu Family Book” and “Jang Ok-jung, Live for Love” followed next in the chart with an average of 11.7 percent and 10.2 percent viewership, respectively.

The main poster for director Kim Ji-woon's "One Perfect Day" has been unveiled along with still photos from the poster shoot.

The film is the second in the Kolon Sport's 40th Anniversary series, "Way to Nature". The first was "Day Trip" directed by brothers Park Chan-wook and Park Chan-kyung and was released in December.

"One Perfect Day" centers on a loser in love, Uncheol (played by Yoon Gye-sang) and a girl of his dreams Eun-hee (Park Shin-hye). Director Kim has until now tried his hand at different genres of film but this is his first romantic comedy.

In the poster, Park and Yoon look striking and it comes with the copyline, "the only choice which I thought was the best".

The film will be released via the Kolon Sports website on April 29.

On April 8th, it was revealed that Fukuyama Masaharu and Shibasaki Kou’s music project KOH+ will be making a comeback to sing the theme song for the upcoming Fuji TV drama, ‘Galileo‘.

The song is titled “Koi no Maryoku“, and it was written and composed by Fukuyama. As the drama will broadcast in 70 locations worldwide, KARA’s Hara and Taiwanese singer A-Lin will be covering the song in Korean and Chinese, respectively. This will mark Fukuyama’s first time collaborating with singers from other countries.

KOH+ was formed back in 2007 when Fukuyama and Shibasaki co-starred in ‘Galileo’. They attracted attention by singing the drama’s theme song, and were also in charge of the theme song for the movie, ‘Yougisha X no Kenshin‘, which was released a year later.

It’s been 5 years since the two last worked together. Fukuyama wrote “Koi no Maryoku” by overlapping the image of the two heroines, Kaoru (played by Shibasaki) and Misa (Yoshitaka Yuriko), and it’s described as an up-tempo love song.

The song was recorded at a studio in Tokyo in mid-February. While it has been 5 years, the two were completely in sync. Shibasaki commented, “It once again made me think that Fukuyama-san is a ‘producer’. He’s good at putting feeling into it.” Meanwhile, Fukuyama praised her, saying, “She’s added more power into her delicate expressiveness that she’s had since 5 years ago. We were pretty much okay with the first take.”

For this song, KARA’s Hara will work under the name ‘HARA+‘ and A-Lin under the name ‘A-Lin+‘. Fukuyama said in astonishment, “When putting a different language onto the melody and backtrack that I created, it turns into a completely different sound.” He continued, “I’m looking forward to how it will reach each country.”
‘Galileo’ will air on Fuji TV every Mondays at 9:00 pm starting April 15th.
