SBS’s drama “The Mystery Housemaid” also secured its runner-up place after attracting an average of 9.8 percent of viewers, recording a rise of 1.1 percent from last week’s score.
Sitting at the bottom position is KBS’s series “Marry Him If You Dare,” which failed to move out from its bottom position with an average viewership of 5.9 percent, a drop of 2 percent from last week’s figure.
In the meantime, TNmS’s (Total National Multimedia Statistic) survey showed the three programs in the same order yet slightly different numbers in the same time frame.
“Empress Ki” took the second top seed with an average score of 12.2 percent, while “Housemaid” and “Marry Him” followed next two spots, each with average marks of 8.0 and 5.1 percent, respectively.

[News] Lee Jun-ki looks at action noir for next drama. Cr. - dramabeans
The drama is titled Age of Feeling, although the
meaning is more along the lines of “age of being emotionally moved.” But
we couldn’t quite translate it as Age of The Feels, could we?
Lee Jun-ki’s reps have confirmed that he has received the offer,
which he is “favorably considering” but has not yet decided on. The show
hasn’t yet secured a broadcast slot, which probably contributes to his
hesitation, but from the bullet points alone I think there’s a lot to be
excited about.
Directing the project is PD Kim Jung-kyu, whose filmography has a number of lighter dramas like Sweet 18, The Man Who Can’t Marry, and My Country Calls. But (1) he did also work on the epic sageuk Immortal Lee Soon-shin, and (2) to put things into perspective, Gakistal’s director also did the fluffy Love and Marriage before going dark and epic, and then followed that with family show You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin. So no worries on that front.
Lee Jun-ki totally won me over in Arang and the Magistrate
with his thoughtful, sensitive and restrained intensity. Lee Jun-ki doing action roles before, and darker shows (Time of Dog and Wolf),
so he seems like a logical fit for a project like this. A Korean drama
that’s a period noir in Shanghai? That’s such a rich tableau and rife
with interesting possibilities.
Age of Feeling is in talks with KBS to potentially air in the second half of this year.
[News] Nam Sang-mi becomes Goddess of Marriage for SBS. Cr. - dramabeans
New drama alert! It’s called Goddess of Marriage, and this one headlines three stars I like very much, which automatically makes me sit up a bit straighter and hope a little harder for a good result. Kim Ji-hoon (so gruffly sweet, as in Flower Boy Next Door), Nam Sang-mi (warm and earnest in an endearing way, as in Light and Shadow), and Lee Sang-woo (so awesome as the best oppa ever in Thousand Day Promise).
It’s a weekend series for SBS, and as you may surmise from the title, the story explores the meaning of marriage through the storyline of its lead, a radio writer played by Nam Sang-mi.
She dreams of a sweet, pure love and falls into a love triangle with our two men, with the ensuing romance looking at the reality of love versus the ideal. It’s not clear which guy is the bigger lead from the descriptions and both actors are on similar levels of fame, so we can’t start crying yet about the one who gets left in the cold.
There will be a number of other characters and love triangles featured, as the show follows four women all dealing in some form with the question of what marriage means to them, a concept that calls to mind the cable drama Marriage Plot (though hopefully in a more cohesive and skillful way).
That means that we’ll be getting a balance of personalities and romantic experiences… or we will if the drama does a decent job with the premise. And despite its slot on weekends, it sounds like Goddess of Marriage skew more toward being a modern trendy careerwoman drama, as opposed to the usual multigenerational family sprawl.
Goddess of Marriage comes from the PD of Brilliant Legacy and will follow the upcoming series Birth Secret, which places its premiere all the way in July. It plans to begin filming at the end of April, though, which does give the show a pretty roomy head start to film and prepare — let’s hope it uses that time wisely.

Are you ready for the long-awaited appearance of Lee Seung Gi in “Gu Family Book”?
While the word from the grapevine is that Choi Jin Hyuk stole many viewers hearts with his portrayal of the tragic hero Wol-ryung (who is Lee Seung Gi’s character’s father), we know most people have been anxiously waiting for Lee Seung Gi in the lead role of half-human, half-beast, Choi Kang Chi.
Fans disappointingly only saw glimpses of Lee Seung Gi this premier week in previews for the upcoming episodes but MBC recently released still cuts of the actor, raising the anticipation and excitement for the appearance of his character.
In these still, we see Lee Seung Gi looking mischievous and playful while attempting to grab the attention Lee Yoo Bi, who plays his first love and the daughter of the master whom he belongs to. Viewers may recognize Lee Yoo Bi from “Nice Guy” where she played Song Joong Ki’s baby sister. She looks particularly beautiful in these still, wearing the traditional hanbok.
[News] Joo Won Thinks Jo In Sung Is Better Looking Than He Is. Cr. - soompi
Actor Joo Won recently had an interview with Star Today and talked about his recent drama “Level 7 Civil Servant” as well as rival dramas that competed for viewership ratings such as “That Winter, The Wind Blows” and “IRIS 2.”
The actor confessed, “More than anything, I loved watching ‘That
Winter, The Wind Blows.’ I monitored the show along with fellow actress ChoiKang Hee and we think Jo In Sung and Song Hye Gyo
were so handsome and beautiful together. In fact, after seeing Jo In
Sung in the drama, I turned to Kang Hee and said, ‘Noona, I feel so
unattractive.’ I just felt so lacking in comparison.”
However he expressed his gratitude toward fans who watched his drama
saying, “I think there was something that the viewers definitely loved
about our characters.”
Although it had been 3 weeks since filming for “Level 7 Civil
Servant” ended and the actor had gone on a brief, well-needed vacation,
Joo Won confessed, “I still feel like I haven’t been able to step out of
my character, Han Gil Ro. It’s actually like that every time I finish a
project. Even though I try to have fun and relax, I still feel like I
live in the fictional world of ‘Level 7 Civil Servant.’”
[News] Actress Ha Ji Won Plans to Set Up Her Own Agency. Cr. - soompi
On April 12, a representative announced that actress Ha Ji Won will be setting up her own agency with her mother as the CEO. Ha Ji Won recently left her agency of 10 years “Well Made Star M.” Briefly, there was a possibility of Ha Ji Won joining Sidus HQ, and many other big agencies showed great interest in the actress, but Ha Ji Won finally decided to become independent.
Fans that heard this news commented, “Ha Ji Won probably will have no problem being on her own,” “Ha Ji Won, fighting!”
In other news, the character posters for Ha Ji Won’s upcoming new film “Joseon Trio of Beauties” (or “The Huntresses” or “Action Girls”) were released recently. The movie is to be a fusion, action-comedy movie and stars Ha Ji Won, Kang Ye Won, and Brown Eyed Girls’ Ga In.
[News] Kim So Eun’s First Love Was Won Bin. Cr. - soompi
Actress Kim So Eun from MBC’s drama “Horse Doctor” and “Boys Over Flowers” recently sat down for an interview with dongA.com and opened up about her lasting crush on actor Won Bin.
She began, “I can’t believe how the years have flown by. Although I’ve been acting for nearly 9 years, I’m still in my early twenties. Everything still feels new and fresh (Laugh).”
When asked about the actor or actress she liked most, she confessed, “I’ve been a fan of Won Bin’s since I was in elementary school. I would say that Won Bin is my first love. If I was to ever meet him in real life, I think I’d be too shy to even stand next to him that I’d run away or something. My ideal type would be someone who is considerate and has great communication skills.”
Kim So Eun also rated her acting at a modest score of 77 percent and explained, “I would give myself 77 percent because… my luck has been 77 percent (laugh). In reality, my personality is on the quiet and reserved side so it’s not exactly easy for me to play these lively and outgoing roles that I often land. I have to try very hard to be able to express these characters convincingly.”
She also went on to reveal the criteria she uses to judge prospective projects saying, “I always study the character very carefully. I want to try out diverse roles.”
[News] Kim Yu-na Picked as Athlete of the Month by U.S. Sports Academy. Cr. - Chosun Ilbo
Figure skating champion Kim Yu-na has chosen as the Athlete of the Month
by the United States Sports Academy based on the results of an online
poll.
"[Kim] returned to the world stage in figure skating after a
two-year layoff. The 2010 Olympic gold medalist picked up where she
left off earning the gold medal in the women's 2013 World Figure Skating
Championships," the USSA wrote on its website on Tuesday.
The
USSA determines candidates for Athlete of the Month after receiving
recommendations from journalists, sports organizations, government
agencies and the public.
Among male athletes, LeBron James of the Miami Heat earned the same title as he contributed to "Miami's win streak at 27 games."
Tiger
Woods, who reclaimed his spot as the world's No. 1 golfer "after
falling from the top spot in October 2010," was runner-up in the men's
category, and Jenn Suhr, who set a world record in women's indoor pole
vault at the USA Track & Field Indoor National Championships in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, placed second in the women's category.
As Kim and James were chosen as the athletes for March, they are now candidates for Athlete of the Year.
Kim
was previously named the Athlete of the Year in 2010 when she won a
gold medal at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. The male Athlete of the
Year at the time was Spanish footballer David Villa, who performed
remarkably well at the 2010 World Cup.
[News] Names of Shows and Dramas that Have Our Heads Spinning. Cr. - enewsworld
There has been a recurring theme in recent times as we here at enewsworld started having long discussions about some of the programs/movies/dramas that are airing.
As
variety programs get canceled or new dramas are being announced, we’ve
noticed that the titles of these shows have been getting longer or more
ridiculous by the minute, giving us a major headache on what to decide
for the English title.
Here are some of what we’ve had to work with.
The One Trying to Wear the Crown, Withstand the Weight – The Heirs.
We love Lee Min Ho.
We love Park Shin Hye.
We even love the drama writer Lee Eun Sook (who gave us a long list of wonderful dramas, like Secret Garden or A Gentleman’s Dignity, but we will not understand this title.
This new upcoming drama is already gathering much anticipation with Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye
cast, but we have to wonder if this long title was really worth coming
up with, especially since even the Korean media is tired of typing out
every word of the title and just merely calling it The Heirs - which we plan on doing.
Hopefully, the drama will be as good as this lengthy title.
주군의 태양 (Joogoon ae Taeyang) The Sun of the Lord (?)
This one is a real doozy.
Rumored to have So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin as its main leads, The Sun of the Lord
(???) probably won’t get an official title until the drama airs,
because this one can be called so many different names with just ‘Joo
Goon ae Taeyang.’
“주군” or “Joo Goon” by definition can mean a
lord/master, stationing troops, National Guard – whatever you want it.
So we’re not even sure if we’re writing the right title as we use The Sun of the Lord for the time being.
Also,
since the premise of the drama is about a woman who can see dead
people, “Joo Goon” can be an awful play–on-words to “죽은” or “Jook eun,”
which means “dead.”
And many times, we’ve seen titles like these
turn out to be the characters’ names, so we might have characters named
‘Joo Goon’ and ‘Taeyang’ in this upcoming drama to make the title, “Joo
Goon’s Taeyang.”
Especially because it’s a Hong Sisters drama, the possibilities for an English translation of this title can be endless.
We’ll just have to watch and see what the drama is about before we settle on the perfect one.
When Men Are in Love
When a maaaaaan lovesss a woman!
Sorry, we just had to add that in there.
There has been a sudden influx of men doing things – running, living alone, and now falling in love.
Not only did Infinite come out with the new song, Man in Love, there’s an upcoming movie called When a Man Loves and an ongoing drama called When a Man Loves, and we’re just convinced that April is the time when all men are in love.
We’re
all for men in love (especially if it’s with us…), but it’s tough when
shows and movies with the same title come out all at once, further
confusing us in this world of easy-to-confuse titles.
사랑의 가위 바위 보 (Sarang ae Gawi Bawi Bo) Rock, Paper, Scissors of Love
We love this poetic movie title in Korean, so it’s super unfortunate that the artistic beauty gets lost as it’s translated.
It
ends up sounding a bit childish and at the same time way more dramatic
than the original Korean title suggests, but at the end of the day,
we’re still going to watch it, since Park Shin Hye and Yoon Kye Sang are leading it. and it’ll be uploaded online.
우리동네 예체능 (Woori Dongnae Yeh Chae Neung) Our Neighborhood′s Masters of Variety and Sports
And this most recent one.
The new variety program starring Kang Ho Dong, TVXQ’s Changmin, and Lee Soo Geun had us stumped.
At
times like this, when the original Korean title is shortened into an
acronym, we wish it would work as swiftly as it does in Korea when it’s
translated into English.
The Korean title includes, ‘Yeh Chae
Neung’ which stand for ‘yehneung’ (variety), ‘chaeyook’ (sports), and
‘neungryukja’ (a powerful person/master). When it really comes down to
it, we can technically translate the title as “Our Neighborhood’s MVS’
but it just lacks that kick that the Korean title provides.
So that′s our rant for strange titles these days.
What are some weird translations for titles of Korean programs, dramas, and movies that had your mind boggled?
[VOD & News] Huang Xiaoming’s “The Patriot Yue Fei” to Air in July. Cr. - jaynestars
The anticipated historical period drama, The Patriot Yue Fei <精忠岳飛>, will begin airing on July 4. Produced by Stanley Tong (唐季禮), the drama will be mainland China’s first television drama to focus on the life experiences of the famous Song Dynasty military general.
Even before filming began, the impressive acting line-up had already attracted much attention from viewers. Mainland Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明) stars as the titular Yue Fei. The cast also includes Hong Kong actors Gallen Lo (羅嘉良) and Allen Ting (丁子峻), mainland Chinese actors Wu Xiubo (吳秀波) and Shao Bing (邵兵), and mainland Chinese actresses Ruby Lin (林心如), Cecilia Liu (劉詩詩), Viann Zhang (張馨予), and Cheng Pei Pei (鄭佩佩).
According to Huang Xiaoming, who is one of the drama’s investors in addition to the male lead, the part of Yue Fei is one that he has been anticipating for a long time. Although he is well-known for playing heroes in wuxia dramas, Xiaoming feels that this role is different. “Yue Fei is a hero who really existed in history,” he said. “He’s not like the warriors I portrayed in the past, who all had a legendary quality and were exaggerated and dramatized. The Patriot Yue Fei is a factual biography of a hero, and it conveys Yue Fei’s bravery and skill, as well as his loyalty and dedication to his country.
It will give everyone that type of steadfast and unyielding spirit of a hero.”
Among the many actresses in The Patriot Yue Fei is mainland Chinese actress Ying Er (穎兒), who was invited by the drama’s executive producer, Tang Jili (唐季禮), to play the most beautiful woman in Jiangnan. Referred to as “the beauty of Jiangnan,” her character functions as a “gift” that is sent to Yue Fei. Netizens marveled at released stills of Ying Er in costume, and Tang Jili praised her ability to depict the elite culture of ancient China, which emphasized the appreciation of calligraphy, painting, music, Go, poetry, wine, and flowers.
Ying Er shared that she was extremely impressed by the research and detail that were put into the costumes of The Patriot Yue Fei. “Every time I came to the set, Xiaoming’s clothes were different,” she shared. “When I went to the costume room, it was simply a big warehouse. The standards that this drama has for every actor’s costumes are really excellent.”

[News] Tang Wei beats Fan Bing Bing and becomes 'goddess of the continent'.Tang Wei beats Fan Bing Bing and becomes 'goddess of the continent'. Cr. - hancinema
The actress won a survey for a group of university students titled, 'Who's the goddess in your heart?'.
This is unusual that Tang Wei
got the hit because she is currently restricted from doing any activity
in China. For the reason that she took on the role of a woman who
romanticized with a pro-Japanese and a turncoat in the movie "Lust,
Caution", she has been forbidden from any activities in China.
The reason for her support in Korea seem to her passion for acting and intelligent looks.
The second runner up was Fan Bingbing from China. Then came Angela Baby and Ko Won Won.
[News] Go Hyun-jung to play role of teacher. Cr. - Joongang Ilbo
Go Hyun-jung is returning to dramas for the first time in three years, her agency said, ?after her previous? work in the SBS drama “The President” in 2010.
In the upcoming MBC drama, tentatively named “Queen’s Classroom,” she will play a teacher trying to discipline and educate her students for a year.
The teacher named Ma Ye-jin has a charismatic but cold character.
“This drama came fresh because it looks like it has a different style and concept from any other previous drama featuring incidents at a classroom,” the agency said.
“And [Go] was interested in acting as a teacher as she has never played the role before.”
The agency added that Go is excited about the drama as she will get to closely work with the youngsters.
As ?she has decided to take part in a school drama, it is expected that the piece will create a social debate on Korea’s education system and everyday life of students.
It will be aired in mid-June, after the ongoing drama “When A Man Loves” is over.
[News] Raymond Lam Wants to Marry Karena Ng By 2015. Cr. - jaynestars
Since announcing his dating status publicly, Raymond Lam (林峯) has been spending a copious amount of time with girlfriend, Karena Ng (吳千語). Besides enjoying each other’s company in Hong Kong, the couple has also gone on several romantic trips across the globe. A reliable source even shared that Raymond had actually proposed marriage on their trip to Okinawa!
Currently in Hengdian filming Lu Xiaofeng and Hua Manlou <陸小鳳與花滿樓>, Raymond could not concentrate well on his work, and is often on the phone, either talking or sending text messages, presumably to Karena. Since Karena has no projects at hand now, she had planned to fly over to Hengdian to accompany Raymond. Because of the H7N9 bird virus spreading in China, Raymond would rather sacrifice time spent together rather than have her visit his Hengdian filming set, which is dangerously close to Shanghai and Jiangsu where most of the flu virus cases are found.
For now, the lovers will have to be satisfied with Raymond’s occasional overnight trips back to Hong Kong. Karena said, “Raymond is afraid that I may get ill so he prefers that I do not visit him. I’m also worried for him and often reminds him to be watchful of what he eats. Meanwhile, I have prepared a lot of dry food so that he can bring them over.” Raymond has been taking safety precautions by donning a mask whenever he can.
Will Not Film for TVB Dramas This Year
Without Karena by his side, Raymond could not focus on his work and is often distracted. Instead of going through his scripts, he spent most of his time on the phone. As a result, he ended with many outtakes during filming, and exasperated the crew.
Even in scenes he was supposed to film, Raymond would reportedly push them to the body double, and make his appearances only when his face can be seen on camera.
It has also been alleged that Raymond has made it clear to TVB executive, Virigina Lok (乐易玲) that he wants to take a break after filming Lu Xiaofeng and Hua Manlou and does not want to be involved in any work, be it filming or singing, so that he can spend more time with Karena. Hence, Raymond will not be involved in any series for the second half of this year.
Plans for Marriage
A source close to Raymond revealed, “Raymond is really serious about Karena this time. He is sure Karena is the one and plans to marry her within these two years. Actually, when they were in Okinawa, Raymond already proposed to Karena and they have even bought their rings. However, the proposal wasn’t really serious as Raymond was merely testing his chances. I believe he will seriously propose to Karena again.”
