กลายเป็นเรื่องวุ่นวายในโลกอินเตอร์เน็ตทีเดียวสำหรับคลิปใน YouTube ของนักแสดงสาวสวย "ลีดาเฮ" (Lee Da Hae) ที่แสดงความสามารถทางด้านการพูดภาษาอังกฤษ แต่กลับโดนวิจารณ์หนักจากชาวฟิลิปปินส์ ว่าไปล้อสำเนียงภาษาอังกฤษของพวกเขา

โดยคลิปดังกล่าวเป็นคลิปจากรายการ Sweet Night ของ KBS2TV โดยมีสาว ลีดาเฮ มาร่วมรายการในฐานะแขกรับเชิญ ลีดาเฮและครอบครัวเคยใช้ชีวิตอยู่ที่ซิดนีย์ ออสเตรเลีย เป็นเวลานานถึง 5 ปี ซึ่งเธอจบการศึกษาจาก Burwood Girls High School ของที่นั่นทำให้เธอสามารถพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้เป็นอย่างดี

ซึ่งในรายการดังกล่าว ลีดาเฮต้องแสดงการพูดภาษาอังกฤษในสำเนียงที่แตกต่างกัน ทั้งสำเนียงอังกฤษและสำเนียงอเมริกัน แต่เมื่อเธอถูกร้องขอให้พูดภาษาอังกฤษสำเนียงของฟิลิปปินส์ ( ตามกราฟฟิคของรายการ ) ซึ่งวิธีการพูดของลีดาเฮฟังดูราวกับว่า เธอกำลังดูถูกสำเนียงของคนฟิลิปปินส์ ซึ่งสร้างความโกรธเคืองให้กับชาวฟิลิปปินส์ที่ได้ชมคลิปเป็นจำนวนมาก

และทันทีที่ลีดาเฮทราบเรื่องก็รีบทวีทข้อความขอโทษแฟนๆทันที

"ก่อนอื่นฉันต้องขอโทษพวกคุณจากใจจริง จากเรื่องที่ดูเหมือนจะเป็นการเข้าใจผิดกัน มันเป็นที่น่าสนใจมาก เมื่อเห็นคนฟิลิปปินส์จำนวนมากเข้ามาโพสท์ข้อความแสดงความเห็นต่อต้านเรื่องที่ฉันทำเหมือนดูถูกล้อเลียนชาวฟิลิปปินส์เวลาที่พูดภาษาอังกฤษ

ด้วยเหตุนี้ เพื่อเป็นการทำให้เรื่องนี้กระจ่าง ฉันจึงอยากถือโอกาสนี้เคลียร์ทุกๆอย่างที่เกิดขึ้น แม้ว่าใครมากมายจะเชื่ออย่างไร แต่ตัวของฉันเองไม่ได้มีเจตนาพาดพิงเกี่ยวกับสำเนียงของชาวฟิลิปปินส์ขณะที่ออกรายการเลย

ในทางกลับกัน ฉันจำได้ว่าทางรายการให้ฉันพูดถึงเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ซึ่งไม่ได้เจาะจงไปที่ฟิลิปปินส์ แต่เมื่อรายการอยู่ในขั้นตอนการตัดต่อบทบรรยายมันก็ถูกแทรกเข้าไป ซึ่งฉันไม่ได้เอะใจเลยจนกระทั่งรายการออกอากาศ

รายการทีวีที่ถูกถ่ายทำขึ้นนี้ มันได้รับการออกแบบมาเพื่อสร้างอารมณ์ขันให้กับผู้ชม ซึ่งจุดประสงค์เดียวของฉันคือ มอบความบันเทิงให้กับผู้ชมโดยนำเสนอเรื่องเบาสมอง

ซึ่งพอโปรดิวเซอร์ทราบว่าฉันพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้ เขาก็ขอร้องฉันให้ไปร่วมรายการตอนที่มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับภาษาอังกฤษ

ตามที่เราทุกคนทราบกันดี ทุกๆประเทศต่างก็มีสำเนียงที่แตกต่างกันออกไปเวลาที่พูดภาษาอังกฤษ ( ซึ่งรวมถึงตัวฉันเองด้วย ) ดังนั้นหลังจากที่ฉันได้ให้ความเห็นออกไป ฉันก็ได้รับข้อความมาไม่กี่บรรทัด เพื่อให้ลองเปรียบเทียบความแตกต่างของสำเนียงภาษาอังกฤษ : สำเนียงภาษาอังกฤษค่อนข้างเข้มงวด และผู้เริ่มเรียนภาษาอังกฤษในเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ก็มีแนวโน้มการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในวงแคบ เราไม่มีการพูดสองแง่สองง่ามหรือมีเจตนาที่จะล้อเลียนใดๆทั้งสิ้น

และโดยส่วนตัว ฉันคือผู้ที่เคยลงเรียนภาษาอังกฤษทางโทรศัพท์กับอาจารย์ผู้สอนชาวฟิลิปปินส์ ฉันจึงพูดได้ว่าฉันไม่เคยมีความคิดที่จะล้อเลียนชาวฟิลิปปินส์เลย

Recently many Filipino fans were hurt after a video clip of Lee Da Hae mimicking how English was spoken in different countries was uploaded to Youtube. The said video clip was from KBS2TV’s former show “Sweet Night” where it featured Lee Da Hae as one of the guests. She and her family had stayed for five years in Sydney Australia and from there she graduated from Burwood Girls High School that’s why she has a good grip on the English language.

On the show she was asked to demonstrate how different countries speak in English, she started with American and British accents and it went fine but when she was asked how it would be like if its a Filipino Accent (according to the show’s subtitles) she spoke in a way that insulting for some Filipinos.

“First I’d like to give you my sincere apologies for what seems to be a misunderstanding.

It has come to my attention that many of you from the Philippines have posted comments protesting that i was being derisive by mimicking Filipinos when they speak English.

Therefore, in light of this matter I’d like to take this opportunity to clear the air.
In spite of what many people believe, I myself did NOT mention anything
about the Philippines or Filipino accent whilst on the TV show.

On the other hand, I recall bringing up Southeast Asia and not the Philippines and the subtitles were inserted when the show was being edited of which I was not aware of until it was aired.

The TV show where this footage was taken from was designed to amuse its audience and my sole purpose was to entertain the viewers by coming up with lighthearted stories.

Since the producer knows that i speak English he asked me if I could
share any episodes that touch upon the English language.

As we all know every country has a typical accent when its people speak English (including myself) so after giving it some thought, I came up with a few lines where I simply tried to compare different English accents: the somewhat rigid British accent and beginners in Southeast Asia whose English tends to be a little hard-edged. No pun or ridicule was intended.

As an individual who use to take English classes over the phone with a Filipino instructor, I give you my word that even the mere thought of mocking Filipinos would never cross my mind.
I cannot tell you how much Filipino fans mean to me and as much as I love them, I would in no way
hurt or upset them.

I hope I have clarified any misunderstandings and once again I am truly sorry if I inadvertently
hurt anyone’s feelings.

Actually I only knew about this after she has made her apology, I’m a Filipino and for me there’s no need for an apology, it’s not like we Filipino’s don’t do this kind of jokes for entertainment. I just can’t believe those fans that are overreacting on this matter or maybe they are just antis who just seized this opportunity to attack Lee Da Hae.
