'Magha Puja' is celebrated to commemorate 2 Important events on Full Moon Day of Magha (third lunar month) in the Buddha's Life:

-FIRST EVENT /THE FOURFOLD ASSEMBLY

Happened in Veluvanarama, Rajgir (Bamboo Grove Temple) in the year of the Buddha got Enlightenment.

1- On the Full Moon of the Month Magha (Third Lunar Month)
2- 1,250 monk disciples assembled to see the Buddha without any appointment.
3-All these monks were Arahants who had attained the sixfold superknowledge (Chalabhinna)
4-All of them were the Buddha's direct disciples having been ordained by the Buddha himself Ehibhikkhu).

At the fourfold assembly the Buddha gave Ovadapatimokkha to 1,250 monks, an important discourse summarizing his teachings into three main principles as follows:

1- Not to do any evil.
2-To do good
3- To purify the Mind

-SECOND EVENT / THE REJECTION TO THE AGGEGATES OF LIFE

Happened In the Pava Stupa on the Full Moon Day of the month Magha. Three months before He passed away. While the Buddha was sitting alone under the shade of a tree, he investigated with his mind the cause and the condition of his passing away and concluded that he would enter Nirvana after three months.

The Buddha said :

" Ananda! On the fifteenth day of the Visakha month the Buddha will enter Nirvana; it is only three months anyway."

All Buddhist around the world observe the Magha Puja to commemorate these two important events every year in the Full Moon of the 'Month Magha'.
