Korean singer-actor Ryu Si-won will participate in a Ferrari car race in China over the weekend, announced his agency R’s Company on Friday.
According to a press release by R’s, Forza Motors Korea (FMK), an official importer of Ferrari in Korea, chose Ryu to represent his hometown in the upcoming international race car competition "Ferrari Challenge Race" scheduled to take place in Zhuhai City of Guangdong Province in China from June 17 to 19.
Ryu is also a professional car racer and director to his own racing team “EXR TEAM106” that won Korean race event CJ TVing Super Race Championship last year, will be driving the Ferrari 458 model and take part in two races set for the upcoming race's final day.
One of the racers to compete against Ryu will be famed Chinese actor and singer from Hong Kong Aaron Kwok who is a long-time car race mania as well.
“The Ferrari Challenge is the kind of match that attracts more than those who drive a Ferrari and it is an honor to present Korea. I wish this kind of race would take place in Korea in the near future too,” Ryu was quoted as saying in the statement.
Ferrari Challenge was started out as a friendly car match in 1993 for clients and race car drivers of Ferraris which was held mostly in North American and European regions but become a full-fledged international competition representing over 20 nations and producing over 2,200 professional racers through the introduction of various types of Ferrari.
Starting this year, in line with its policy to cover the participation of racers from Asia-Pacific regions including Korea, Singapore and Australia, the tournament will also be held in China and Japan.
Thus, after the upcoming match, the tournament will then move on to Shanghai, Ordos and Japan’s Tochigi Prefecture until its final match in Europe in November.
Ryu, 38, made his debut in 1994, and has starred in various dramas including "Secret" (2000, MBC), "Beautiful Days" (2001, SBS) and "Style" (2009, SBS).
He has led a particularly successful career in Japan since debuting in the country seven years ago, selling out his concert tours throughout the country and having all 19 albums place within the top 10 of the prestigious Oricon chart.
