The KBS series “Seo-young, My Daughter” has secured the top spot on the weekly TV chart for 16th week in a row.
The family drama was the most-watched program after posting an average of 41.6 percent ratings during the week of January 14 to 20, according to data polled by TNmS [Total National Multimedia Statistics] Monday.
In last weekend’s episodes, Seo-young [played by Lee Bo-young] came clean about her secret of hiding her father’s existence and left the house, but is shocked after Woo-jae’s [played by Lee Sang-yoon] life-saver turned out to be her father.
Sitting at number two is the KBS daily series “Cheer Up, Mr. Kim!,” which pulled in an average of 31.4 percent of total viewers in the same time frame.
The drama’s high popularity relies heavily on its lead actor Kim Dong-wan, the singer-turned-actor of long-running idol group Shinhwa, and his character Kim Tae-pyeong’s simple and honest charm.
While the daily news show “KBS 9 o’ clock News” ranked at the third place after attracting an average of 20.9 percent ratings, the KBS Sunday comedy show “Gag Concert” sat at the number four spot with 20.7 percent of viewers.
The MBC costume drama “The King’s Doctor” rounded off the top five with 19.7 percent ratings, with the portrayal of Lee Sang-woo and Uem Hyun-kyung’s extraordinary love.
Other much-beloved TV programs last week were SBS reality show “The Laws of the Jungle,” MBC variety show “Infinite Challenge,” SBS variety show “I Like Sundays,” SBS documentary program “CUBE” and KBS drama “School 2013.”
The Nielsen Korea’s data showed the top three programs in same order yet slightly different figures compared to those of TNmS during the third week of January.
While “Seo-young” grabbed the top seed with 40.1 percent, “Cheer Up, Mr. Kim!” and “KBS 9 o’ clock News” followed next with 28.1 and 20.9 percent, respectively.
