Kim Jae-wook (Antique Bakery) and T-MAX’s rapper Kim Joon (Boys Before Flowers) have been cast as the leads of a new Korean-Japanese co-production called Pygmalion’s Love (subtitle: Give Me Your Memory). The project is a “mobile drama,” meaning that it will not air on television but be available as mobile phone content.

The plot deals with a woman, Mika, who loses all memories of her boyfriend. Playing Mi-ka is Japanese actress Minamisawa Nao (of the Japanese drama Dandy Daddy and film Akai Ito), and Kim Joon is the boyfriend Hyung-joon, who “experiences the conflict between friendship and love.” That’s probably because his friend Ki-young (Kim Jae-wook) somehow comes to act as Mika’s boyfriend instead, setting up the three for their love triangle. The meaning of the title isn’t given, although I suppose it has to do with Ki-young falling for Mika based on a false pretenses. (In Greek mythology, Pygmalion is a sculptor who fell in love with his own creation. The story has inspired numerous others, such as the George Bernard Shaw play and the musical My Fair Lady.)

Pygmalion’s Love comes from PD Kim Yoon-chul, who directed My Name Is Kim Sam-soon and Que Sera Sera. Kim Joon said, “I’m happy to be working with director Kim Yoon-chul, whom I’ve always respected. This is a valuable experience for me to learn as an actor.”

The drama is produced by Office Hara (Korea) and AVEX (Japan), and began filming in early February. After wrapping its month-long shoot in Korea, the first installment will be released on March 20 via mobile content provider BeeTV, which will show one new installment every Thursday.

Meanwhile, if you’d rather wait to see Kim Jae-wook on television, his next TV drama role comes in SBS’s Bad Guy (starring Kim Nam-gil and Han Ga-in), which is looking at a May premiere.
