Hyun Bin is going back to work with PD.Gwak Kyung-taek, with whom he shot last year’s dark drama series Friend, Our Legend. (Kwak also filmed the original movie, Friend, which starred Jang Dong-gun and served as the basis for the drama adaptation.)

Hyun Bin will be the lead in the film Beautiful Us [아름다운 우리], join with Joo Jin-mo, who was cast earlier. (This film will also be Joo’s second time working with Gwak; his first project with him was 2007’s movie A Love.)

'Beautiful Us' is based on the real-life Second Battle of Yeonpyeong, when a North Korean patrol boat attacked a South Korean boat in 2002. A large-scale project, it boasts a production budget of 15 billion won and will be filmed in 3D. Filming will commence in mid-June.

Hyun Bin hasn’t necessarily been able to replicate the massive popularity he gained after 2005’s My Name Is Kim Sam-soon (follow-up dramas Snow Queen and The World They Live In had disappointing broadcasts, though the dramas themselves were well-made). However, he has been making some interesting choices in recent years and I think he’s positioning himself well for a jump to a more serious acting career with stuff like Friend, the remake of the classic film Late Autumn, and now another big-budget Gwak project.

The executive, currently promoting the pic to foreign movie buyers at the Cannes film market in France, distributed booklets in which the two actors were introduced as the film's male leads.

"Beautiful Us", to be produced on a 15 billion won budget, will go into shoot starting next month.



현빈-주진모, 곽경택 '아름다운 우리' 출연 확정

현빈과 주진모는 연평해전을 소재로 한 곽경택 감독의 신작 '아름다운 우리'의 투톱 주인공으로 발탁됐다.

이 영화의 해외세일즈를 맡고 있는 미로비전 측은 63회 칸국제영화제 기간 열리는 칸필름마켓에서 두 배우가 주연배우로 소개된 브로셔를 공개했다.

현빈은 지난해 방송된 MBC '친구, 우리들의 전설'에서 곽경택 감독과 호흡을 맞췄고, 주진모는 곽 감독의 영화 '사랑'에 주연으로 출연한 바 있다.

지난 2002년 발생한 연평해전을 소재로 한 '아름다운 우리'는 150억원의 제작비가 투입돼 3D로 제작될 예정이며 오는 6월께 촬영을 시작할 계획이다.
