[News]Kwon Sang Woo at Stanford University, California : 60th anniversary Korean War Seminar
On May 27th, top Hallyu Star Kwon Sang Woo and Into the Gunfire director Lee Jang Han attended a 60th anniversary Korean War seminar held at the Stanford University Asia Pacific Research Center in Stanford, California.
A special screening of Into the Gunfire was played for those in attendance and both Kwon and Lee spoke at a press conference after the movie was screened. According to Asia E, Lee plans to have a Hollywood debut of sorts as he’s scheduled to direct the Hollywood remake of John Woo’s Hong Kong hit action movie The Killer.
Into the Gunfire revolves around a true story of 71 South Korean student soldiers and stars Kwon Sang Woo and Big Bang’s T.O.P. The students fight against overwhelming odds and hundreds of regular North Korean soldiers (led by Cha Seung Woo) during the deadly Korean War. The film opens in Korean theaters on June 16th.
...Hallyu began roughly 12 years ago when the rest of Asia discovered Korean soap operas. One of the breakthrough dramas was a series 'Winter Sonata' starring Choi Ji-woo & Bae Young-Joon. After that, more Korean dramas saw their way to foreign shores and Korean films and music started to follow suit. Korean marketing people started to see a Korea-centric trend. They dubbed this flow "The Korean Wave" or Hallyu....
