Korean singer Kim Hyun-joong's Japanese debut single has been certified gold, according to the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).

RIAJ's February data showed that Kim's album "KISS KISS/Lucky Guy" achieved gold status after selling over 100,000 copies in just two weeks of going on sale in the country on January 25.

Under RIAJ's criteria, music content that sells over 100,000 copies are certified Gold.

Kim also became the first singer, taking into account both solo and group artists who made their debut after March 2009, to sell the most number of singles in a day in the country.

The single, produced in three editions, includes the Japanese version of his hit songs "KISS KISS" which is also the title track, "Lucky Guy," "Break Down" and love tune "U."

Kim, who signed with Universal Music Japan in November last year, held an event to commemorate the release at the Yokohama Arena in the Kanagawa Prefecture last weekend.

Kim made his debut as the leader of the popular boy band SS501 in 2005. He expanded his career into acting with a role in KBS’ smash hit series “Boys Over Flowers” in 2009, which made him a household name in Korea and Asia.
