After drawing a record audience here last month, "The Thieves" is eyeing overseas success by being introduced at several renowned international film festivals.

The movie’s distributor Showbox said in a press release Thursday the second highest grossing homegrown film will meet global moviegoers at three international film festivals in the United States and Spain.

Including Spain’s Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, the Jun Ji-hyun and Lee Jung-jae's starrer is about to bring its excitement to Philadelphia film festival and Hawaii International Film Festival of the United States.

“I saw the future of Asian films in 'The Thieves," the Sitges' vice-president was quoted as saying.

"The spectacle, action-packed movie will thrill the audience for sure."

Raising the anticipation towards its sales boom in the global film business, a programmer from the HIFF also highly praised the heist movie.

"I couldn't help myself falling into the overwhelmingly large scale of the movie, well-knitted plot, not to mention interesting elements and scenes to watch."

Before the announcement, officials said director Choi Dong-hoon’s star-studded movie has been invited to be screened at the coveted Toronto International Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festival.

“The Thieves” crossed the 12 million mark at the box office this summer and became the second highest grossing film of all time at the Korean box office since its opening on July 25.

The film is only 310,000 admits away from catching the front-runner, director Bong Jun-ho's "Host" (2006).
