“Light and Shadow” star Ahn Jae-wook has undergone a brain surgery after a sudden bleeding in his brain.

The actor, who felt a sudden headache when he was in Las Vegas, the U.S. on February 3, is on the mend in an intensive care unit after the major surgery at a near-by hospital, his agency Jable Entertainment said on February 6.

The disease which caused Ahn to have the five-hour long surgery is subarachnoid hemorrhage, which causes bleeding in the brain due to increased pressure. Ahn is showing satisfactory progress but still needs absolute rest for three to four more weeks, officials explained.

Due to the unexpected injury of its hero, Ahn’s upcoming theatrical project, the Musical Rudolf’s nationwide tour, needs to adjust its provincial tour schedule in five cities in Korea, starting in Jeonju on February 16.

Considered one of the first generation of Korean celebrities to gain recognition in the Asian region, Ahn shot to stardom through the 1997’s MBC melodrama "Star in My Heart" and successfully expanded his career into music the same year.

The 40-year-old entertainer marked a return to small screen with the MBC costume drama “Light and Shadow” in 2011 and took the lead in the Musical Rudolf a year later.
