The MBC drama “The King’s Doctor” has secured its top status, edging out the SBS series “Queen of Ambition” with a small gap.

The 50-episode series sat atop the Monday and Tuesday ratings chart for 19 straight weeks with an average of 20.4 percent ratings during the week of February 18 and 19, TNmS [Total National Multimedia Statistics] showed Wednesday.

The period-set medical drama, starring Cho Seung-woo, Lee Yo-won and Kim So-eun, has been grabbing much popularity especially from female viewers over 40, the main target group for costume dramas.

The SBS series “Queen of Ambition” ranked at No. 2 again after attracting an average of 19.5 percent of total viewers during the same time frame.

The cartoon-turned-drama has been showing an increased level of popularity as many viewers feel sympathy and catharsis as Hallyu [played by Kwone Sang-woo] exacts his revenge on Joo Da-hae [Soo Ae].

At the bottom of the chart was the KBS drama “AD Genius Lee Tae Baek,” which posted only 5.3 percent ratings, scoring the lowest number among Korean TV series aired in 2013 up to this point.

Meanwhile, Nielsen Korea rated the three dramas in a different order and figures from TNmS’ during the third week of February.

While “Queen of Ambition” grabbed the top seed with 19.4 percent, “The King’s Doctor” and “AD Genius” followed next with 18.3 and 3.9 percent, respectively.
