CNBLUE and FTISLAND will soon be expanding their music career in UK, the country considered as the world’s ‘home of bands’CNBLUE and FTISLAND are preparing a concert in UK and France early next year. As most music enthusiasts acknowledge, UK is the home of band music having cultivated world-class acts such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Oasis, Blur and Muse. Since the recent wave of K-pop is focused on dance music, it will be meaningful that bands, such as CNBLUE and FTISLAND, are now also expanding into the European music market.

This international opportunity is realized through ‘M-Live’ a branded concert produced by CJ E&M. This branded concert will bring solo and joint concerts by Korean artists overseas, engaging them in the international market actively.

Manager Ahn Seck Jun of CJ E&M stated that “ we plan to introduce not only idol bands but also various genre bands to Europe and other countries”

CEO Han Sung Ho, of FNC, management agency of CNBLUE and FTISLAND showed his confidence “ Although there is pressure to extend our career overseas, right into the home of band music, on the other hand, I actually did expect this could happen. When I look at our band seniors (Editor’s Note: Those who had been in band music ahead of CNBLUE and FTISLAND), I am confident that Korean band music is not at all behind the world-class standard.

CJ E&M held a press conference for ‘M-Live’ at M-pop, Times Square in Yongdeungpo, Seoul on November 2, with six music entertainment companies participating: Cube Entertainment (G.NA, B2ST, 4MINUTE), Star Empire (Z:EA, Jewelry), Amoeba Culture (Dynamic Duo), FNC Music (CNBLUE, FTISLAND), Jungle Entertainment (Drunken Tiger, Leessang) and J-Tune Entertainment (MBLAQ).

[News]Spain catches K-pop fever

[News]Spain catches K-pop fever.

On October 29, the international port city of Barcelona welcomed a new kind of visitor to its Mediterranean shores. The Korean pop group JYJ kicked off their 2011 World Concert Tour at the historic Poble Espanyol village courtyard with over 3,000 fans from all across Europe in attendance.(Above picture: Thousands of fans in Barcelona chant for JYJ as they wait for the show to begin – Photo: Yonhap News)

The high-energy event was a first for the popular trio, who had never before performed in Europe, but also a first for the Korean music industry. While the SM Town Live concert held in June in Paris had introduced Europe to a number of K-pop acts, JYJ’s Spain concert is the first time that mainstream Korean artists have performed as a solo act in Europe.

“Te quiero, JYJ!” was the rallying cry of the excited fans, some of whom had traveled from as far as Romania and Finland to attend the event, and many who had camped out overnight to secure their spots. Though fewer in number than the 80,000 who flocked to JYJ’s Japan concert earlier this month, the diverse crowd waving Korean flags and singing along in Korean was a vibrant offline testament to the online K-pop fandom spreading among young Europeans. With novel acrobatic choreography by popular local dancer Rafa Mendez, the two-hour show was also a coming-together of Spanish and Korean talent.

In Spain, the foundations of K-pop’s growing influence can be traced both to an active Internet community and to the prior appeal of J-pop. According to Jang Jin-sang, director of the Korean Cultural Center in Spain, an estimated 2,000 fans follow K-pop within the country, and most are active on the fansites of various Korean artists. Whereas fans in other countries may outflank Spain in terms of numbers, Jang stressed that the tremendous loyalty and cohesiveness among Spanish fans easily rivals that of fans in other countries.

The beginnings of K-pop fandom in Spain, as in other countries, began with the popularity of Japanese pop music. As acts like BoA and TVXQ gained popularity in Japan, followers of Japanese music began to take interest in Korean music, with Youtube and other internet portals offering a wealth of video content and opportunities to participate in the growing trend.

K-pop, with its upbeat tempos and dance beats, offers real appeal for European youth. Jang remarked that whereas the spread of content like Korean dramas is still limited in Europe by requirements for dubbing, the influence of K-pop has the potential to spread much more quickly throughout Spain and the greater European region. JYJ’s next stop is the Tempodrom in Berlin, where the group will perform on November 6. Tickets for the event in the 3,000-seat venue sold out within the first day of release.

Cable drama “Flower Boy Ramyun Shop” (FBRS) aired its first episode on Oct 31, scoring a respectable 1.19% in ratings of households with tvN, Mnet, Olive and OnStyle cable channels, according to AGB Nielsen Research. Analysis of the ratings also revealed that it as the top drama for female viewers aged between 20 to 30. This age group also constitute 30% of viewers when the ratings of the episode peaked at 2.6%. As ratings for cable programs, these figures mark a promising start for the drama.

A tvN spokesman commented that the record ratings could be achieved due to three reasons – vivid, lifelike characters; a storyline filled with both realistic and fantasy elements; and filmed with stylish on-screen beauty. He also likened the drama as a “romantic comedy assorted gift set” for viewers.

With a setting against an instant noodle “ramyun” shop, the first episode showed the first meeting between lead characters Cha Ji Soo (Jung Il Woo) and Yang Eun Bi (Lee Chung Ah). If the drama was an "assorted gift set," one of the most coveted gifts must be Jung Il Woo. Even prior to the first episode broadcast, he has attracted much attention for his portrayal of a cunning, harsh rich man’s son who is innocent at heart, earning him the nickname of “New Age RoCo Prince.” ("RoCo" is short for "Romantic Comedy")

Unanimous praise from netizens include, “Who else but our Actor Jung, he really lived up to our expectations,” “Birth of the new generation RoCo King! Today’s episode was really interesting. I’m already smitten with Cha Ji Soo,” “This seems like a drama gently simmering to becoming a hit! Even if only the first episode has just been aired, I don’t think I can sleep, all because of Il Woo!”

The drama airs every Monday and Tuesday at 11pm on tvN.

Cr.- soompi

On October 29, the prominent Spanish news site, El Mundo, released an article on JYJ (second section of the article) in light of their "JYJ Europe Tour Concert 2011" in Barcelona, Spain. It is the first time that El Mundo wrote an article on a Korean musician group.

On October 29, which was the date of the concert, an article was written to introduce JYJ as well as express the anticipation for the concert.

The article introduces JYJ as "a sensational, young, boy band from Korea." The headline of the artcile read, "Three Justin Biebers Have Appeared," and the article continues to introduce JYJ's album and the Europe tour. The article also informs, "JYJ has worked with Kanye West and sold over 500,000 copies of their album. Recently, their 'In Heaven' album has been released and they have started their European Tour."

Introductions and descriptions of each JYJ member are also in the article. "Junsu, Yoochun and Jaejoong are very good-looking like Justin Bieber. Their masculine style is very trendy. Fans go crazy over their powerful facial expressions."

Sources from JYJ say, "We are very happy that a prominent Spanish news site wrote a full article on JYJ as an international music group rather than just a reference to K-Pop. During the press conference, there were a lot more reporters than expected so we were very pleasantly surprised. We believe that this is a good sign for possibly further promotions in Europe."

JYJ held press conferences on the day before the concert as well as the day of the concert. Over 50 reporters from different news outlets attended and showed great interset in JYJ. Local TV, radio and newspaper outlets attended the press conferences and took much interest in JYJ's successful Japanese and American tours, further proving that JYJ is one of the greatest Asian music groups

"Tatiana Alvarez," a Spanish local radio station from Cataluña, exclaimed, "The most surprising point is that this group is from a country that is not that well known in Spain and their concert is a sold-out show. After seeing them in the press conference, we realize how attractive and charismatic this team is and we now see the reason for their immense success."

JYJ will hold another concert in the Berlin Tempodrom in Germany on November 6. This concert also sold-out tickets just minutes after ticket sales have opened. Much anticipation and excitement await for JYJ's next concert.

Actress Han Ye Seul talked about living her life as a top actress during a press conference for her new film, "My Penny Pinching Romance" (also known as “Many a Little Romance”), which took place at the CGV theaters in Seoul on November 1.

Han Ye Seul remarked, "Just like my character, Na Hong Sil, I like to wear comfortabale clothes and I like being alone. Our personalities are really similar as well. The life of an actress may seem glamorous, but in reality, like Hong Sil, I would like to just wear whatever I want and live my life without having to care about what others think."

She continued to say, "I think I need to take some time to live as an ordinary person, not an actress. There's a certain image that people want from me so sometimes, I purposely try to look glamorous. But these days, it wears me out."

In this movie, Han Ye Seul plays a penny-pinching Na Hong Sil, who is so miserly that she doesn't go on dates. The character is vulgar and goes through extreme measures, even for a five-cent bottle.

Han Ye Seul goes on to show affection for her character by saying, "The reason that Hong Sil lives this way is because she received a lot of scars from the world in the past."

"My Penny Pinching Romance" is a fun and interesting romantic comedy about Na Hong Sil and Chun Ji Woong (played by Song Joong Ki) and will hit the theaters on November 10.

Fed up with the constant breaches of privacy, actor Jang Keun Suk left multiple warnings to his sasaeng fans through Twitter. ‘Sasaeng‘ fans are often described as aggressive fans who follow their idol around 24/7 — in a word, they’re scarily obsessive.

On October 30th, Jang Keun Suk tweeted, “Saseng fan kids. You guys are probably deceiving yourselves, following me and talking about how you guys know my every move. But you know what? By doing so, you guys are becoming that much more distant from me. Laugh while you can ^^ I’m a scary guy when I’m angry~”

He also tweeted, “I remember your faces clearly. Sasaeng kids would love it when I say that I remember them, right? Like I said before, laugh while you can~ You guys are out now!”

Jang Keun Suk also revealed that ‘Sasaeng’ fans weren’t just found in Korea, but in China and Japan as well. “I don’t mind people following me, but there is a certain ‘limit’“. “I like Japan and the Japanese people^^ I just don’t like sasaeng fans~ I like China and the Chinese people, [it's] just that I don’t like sasaeng fans~ Now, if I say don’t follow me~ Just stop then. That’s what you call a ‘limit’~“.

He concluded, “By stressing this ‘limit’, I’m leaving this message in the hopes that the excessive affection doesn’t become obnoxious.”

Let’s hope his ‘fans’ get the message and give him some room to breathe.

[News]Legislation Passed in Response to "The Crucible"

[News]Legislation Passed in Response to "The Crucible"
Cr.- soompi

“The Crucible,” the film depicting real-life cases of abuse in a school for deaf children, has moved beyond the box office into the legal arena. The “Dogani Law,” a revised bill named after the Korean title of the film was passed at a plenary session of the National Assembly. The revised bill allows for heavier punishments for sexual offenders, particularly those who abuse children aged 13 and under, and the disabled.

Under the new law, the prison terms for rape against the disabled and young children will increase from its minimum of seven (for abuse of the disabled) to 10 (for abuse of young children) years. The new law also allows for offenders to be sentenced with life imprisonment. In cases where the offender is the head or a staff member of a welfare organization or an educational institution, an additional sentence will be served.

A controversial clause, “inability to resist,” is now completely abolished. The clause previously provided offenders with a loophole because victims were required to prove that they were physically or mentally unable to resist properly when the crime was being committed.

In addition to the passage of tighter laws, the National Assembly has also formed a special committee of 18 legislators with the purpose of investigating other human rights violations for the disabled. The Committee is supposed to take appropriate action by the end of May.

“The Crucible,” starring Gong Yoo and Jung Yumi opened in late September. “The Crucible” has since brought to light the cases of rape in a school for the deaf in Gwangju that took place in the early 2000s and that author Gong Ji Yong wrote about in 2005.

The film sparked outrage among the Korean public, setting into motion actions from civic and government groups to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The passage of the “Dogani Law” is only the latest measure that rippled from the film. Within a few days of the film’s opening, the City Council of Gwangju had immediately cancelled the license of the school where the rapes took place, and had closed down other dormitories and facilities operated by the same organization.
