BYJ in Morinaka [Two Trans by Tomato99]

Korean actor Bae Yong Joon was secretly staying in Morioka till 4th.
Object of his stay was to study lacquer craftwork.
During his stay, Yon-sama secretly visited notable sights in prefecture.


Bae Yong Joon came to Iwate Prefecture on 26th last month.
This is Yon-sama’s first time to visit Iwate, and stayed for a week till 4th.
Object of his stay was to study lacquer craftwork from Mr. Jun Yong Bok who is curator of Iwayama Urushi Art Museum in Morioka City.
Yon-sama originally had interest in lacquer craftwork.
His visit to prefecture came true as he wished to learn from Mr. Jun,
and to interview Mr. Jun and to include it in his book of "Beauty of Korea."


Yon-sama stayed with 8 people including reporting staff.
He created 12 works which included paneled work to hang on walls.
Yon-sama visited various sight-seeing spots in the prefecture such as Miyako and Hiraizumi.
His work "Sea in Morning" was created from the image of sea of Sanriku.
Mr. Jun was so surprised to see Yon-sama even cut his sleeping time
and seriously devote himself to create his work.


Yon-sama stayed in one of the rooms at Iwayama Urushi Art Museum.
Since he wishes to learn more on lacquer artwork from Mr. Jun,
working clothes that Yon-sama used will be stored and kept at the museum.
Yon-sama totally fell in love with Iwate.
This stay will be introduced in his book which is scheduled to be published in Korea at later half of this year.

Korean actor Bae Yong Joon is secretly visiting Japan and experienced traditional craftwork. The news was revealed on 5th.
Wearing turtleneck shirt and jeans, he arrived at Sendai Airport at daytime on 26th last month. He went to Morioka by car.
He came to Tokyo by Tohoku Shinkansen (bullet train) on 4th late at night.

During his one week stay in Morioka, he visited workshop of Mr. Jun Yong Bok,
who is lacquer craft artist and the curator of Iwayama Urushi Art Museum.
BYJ took the brush and worked from early morning to late night every day.

Yon-sama has a hobby of photo shooting,
he is travelling in Korea to create and publish photo book, Korean guide book ”Beauty of Korea (tentative).”
BYJ is attracted to lacquer wares and wished to learn directly himself.
This experience will be introduced in the book.

During his stay, BYJ went to market and walked in city of Morioka.
He was satisfied to ride on Shinkansen for the first time which was his dream come true.

There is no open public schedule during this visit, his staying period is not determined.
His office in Japan says,
“Bae Yong Joon is very sorry that he could not have a chance to send his greetings directly.
However, he is sending his greetings to everyone at heart.”
