Dance In the Sky : 비천무 / BiChunMu / 飛天舞

The music that you hear on time from "BiChunMu or Dance In the Sky". Bicheonmu returns as a television drama starring singer-turned-actress Park Ji Yoon and Ju Jin Mo (Queen of the Game, Fashion 70s), both reprising the roles previously taken on by Kim Hee Seon and Shin Hyun Jun in the 2000 feature film version. Though it has already televised overseas, the series took almost four years to broadcast in Korea due to copyright complications. Based on Kim Hye Rin's popular comic book series of the same title, Bicheonmu paints an epic romance of immortality that transcends both political and cultural borders.



This is a video montage of a Korean TV drama called 비천무 (Bi Chun Mu, Bichunmu, Bichunmoo, 飛天舞, The Dance in the sky, The Dance with the Sword) set to 야상곡 - 설리 version (translated as "Nocturne"- Sul Ri's version, and is from the drama's OST) sung by 박지윤 (Park Ji Yoon), who is also the female lead.

This drama was quite a surprise for me. First of all, it portraits an incredibly bittersweet love story between Yoo Jun Ha and Tarooga Sul Ri, and how the fate of their lives interferes from fulfilling their love until the very end. What impressed me the most was the intensity of Jin Ha's love for Sul Ri and his transformation from an innocent noble young man to a vengeful assassin/general because of his love. 주진모 (Joo Jin Mo) was a perfect embodiment of Yoo Jin Ha/Ja Ha Rang. His internal struggles have been well expressed and one cannot help but root for him to win back his love. It is truly a beautiful story.



Secondly, surprisingly the cast includes Korean as well as Chinese. (I learned that it was a co-production between Korean and Chinese.) The Korean voice-over actors for the Chinese actors did a decent job. It was nothing spectacular except for Yoo Jin Ha's father and Gwak Jung, who raised Jin Ha and pretended to be his uncle. Thirdly, the Chinese scenery were beautiful. What a gorgeous country!

Another note on this drama was that it was aired in China in 2006, but aired in Korea in 2008 due to some kind of legal disputes. In China, it was a 33-episode series, where as in Korea, it was condensed down to 14-episode. I have ordered the English subtitled Chinese version of DVDs to watch the uncut version. After watching it, I have learned that one Korean episode includes about 2 and a 1/2 Chinese episodes. There were many places that I thought the Korean version did well to cut down, but I think the Korean version has condensed too much to the point of not making sense at times. For instance, the Korean version does not explain why Jan Ha begins to get the pain on his right hand after mastering the swordplay called 비천신기 (translated as "Flying Feat" in the DVD).



By watching the Chinese version, I have found that the pain is caused by the Flying Feat. In order to uphold its reputation as the swordplay bestowed by the Heaven, it causes the pain to the person, who masters and wields it for a personal vengeance and not for justice, and ultimately takes the person's life. I think the scene, which explains this, is crucial to the story. Why this scene was taken out of the Korean version boggles my mind. I call it a bad editing decision. I think an extra episode or two would have made a whole lot of difference in the Korean version. I am hoping there will be a Korean version of the DVD as well. It was weird to hear a Chinese actor voicing over Joo Jin Mo, who has such a wonderful baritone voice.

Lastly, I have learned that this drama was based on a martial arts manhwa (Korean graphics novel or Korean manga) of the same name. Since I have never read the manhwa, I am not sure how close the story is to the original work. As a person who does not know anything about the manwha, I love the TV drama version.

Bichunmu ทุ่มทุนสร้างถึงประมาณ 230 ล้านบาท ทุกฉากถ่ายทำที่ประเทศจีน จริง ๆ แล้วละครเรื่องนี้ถ่ายทำเสร็จตั้งแต่เดือนพฤษภาคม ปี 2005 แต่กว่าจะได้ฤกษ์ลงจอก็ผ่านไปตั้งเกือบสามปี เพราะปัญหาหลาย ๆ อย่างเช่น การตัดต่อ ทำให้กำหนดวันฉายไม่ได้เสียที จึงต้องออกอากาศที่ประเทศจีนก่อนจึงจะได้ออกอากาศในประเทศเกาหลี ในปี 2006 และ 2008

เรื่องราวความรักอันยิ่งใหญ่ของชายหนุ่มเชื้อสายเกาหลีกับลูกสาวแม่ทัพมองโกลที่ได้ก่อเกิดความรักความผูกพันท่ามกลางความขัดแย้ง และไฟสงครามระหว่างชนชาติในช่วงปลายราชวงศ์หยวน นำแสดงโดย นักแสดงจากฝั่งเกาหลี จู จินโม ปาร์ก จียูน และคิม คังวู ร่วมด้วยนักแสดงจากฝั่งจีน หวังย่าหนาน และ หนิว ลี่ ร่วมสัมผัสถึงความอบอุ่นของความรักอันยิ่งใหญ่ที่ยอมแลกได้แม้กระทั่งชีวิต

วันหนึ่ง ทั่นลู่กา พา เซี่ยลี่ ไปอยู่ด้วยกันที่เมืองเส้าซิง แต่ที่นั่น เซี่ยลี่ ต้องอยู่ด้วยความทุกข์ใจด้วยความคิดถึง เจินเหอ ชายคนรัก แต่ เซี่ยลี่ ก็มี จุ้นกวง เป็นเพื่อนคุย แต่ขณะนั้นบ้านของ เจินเหอ โดนกลุ่มผู้ต้องการคัมภีร์ผงาดฟ้าโจมตี ทำให้ กัวจ้าง บาดเจ็บเกือบตาย แต่ เจินเหอ มาช่วยไว้ได้ทัน ทำให้เขาได้รู้ความจริงเกี่ยวกับเบื้องหลังการตายของพ่อและแม่ของเขาจากคำบอกเล่าก่อนสิ้นใจของ กัวจ้าง หลังจากนั้น เจินเหอ จึงออกเดินทางไปเมืองเส้าซิงทันที

ในขณะที่ เซี่ยลี่ ยังคงรอคอย เจินเหอ มาหาที่เมืองเส้าซิงตลอดเวลา จนไม่ยอมรับคำขอแต่งงานจาก จุ้นกวง จนกระทั่ง เจินเหอ เดินทางมาพบ เซี่ยลี่ อีกครั้ง ทั้งคู่จึงตัดสินใจหนีตามกันไป จุ้นกวง ติดตามไปจนเกิดการต่อสู้กัน แต่แล้วสมุนของ ทั่นลู่กา ยิงธนูใส่ เจินเหอ จนผลัดตกหน้าผาไป เซี่ยลี่ เสียใจมาก จึงตัดสินใจแต่งงานกับ จุ้นกวง เพื่อแก้แค้นให้ เจินเหอ แต่ทว่า เจินเหอ กลับรอดตายราวกับปาฏิหาริย์ และตั้งใจฝึกคัมภีร์ผงาดฟ้าจนบรรลุกระบี่มาร กลายเป็นมือสังหารผู้ไร้หัวใจ และเป็นแม่ทัพนำรบในสงครามชนชาติ โดยมีเป้าหมายใหญ่ คือ แก้แค้น ทั่นลู่กา ที่ฆ่าพ่อและแม่ของเขาและสร้างความหายนะให้แก่ตระกูลของ จุ้นกวง ให้ได้ และในที่สุด เจินเหอ มีโอกาสได้พบกับ เซี่ยลี่ อีกครั้ง แต่การพบกันครั้งนี้กลับสร้างความเจ็บปวดให้กับพวกเขาทั้งสองคน
