The nation's major state broadcaster, KBS, meted out disciplinary measures against as many as 60 of its workers, including some prime-time news anchors for participating in protests in July about the manner the company operates itself.

KBS cited that these individuals "participated in protests during work hours and damaged the company's reputation" as reasons for punishments, Media Today said.

In July, KBS media workers demanded the rights for independent reporting, including non-interference of the government, in programs including the politically divisive "four-river" refurbishment program.

Among the 60 workers on the discipline list, 15 were anchors, including Kim Yun-ji, Park Noh-won, Chung Se-jin, and Lee Gwang-yong, it said.

The "belated" punishments, five months after the protests, are also seen as a revenge on the KBS labor union's disclosure of a document that allegedly showed the presidential Cheong Wa Dae's meddling with KBS, the report said, citing the union.
