TOKYO, March 20 (AP) - (Kyodo)—Former Japan striker Kazuyoshi Miura sent a message of support to victims of the March 11 earthquake Sunday, saying he hoped to play a role in the upcoming charity match between a J-League XI and the Japan national team in Osaka.

"The hardship is only something the people affected by the quake can truly know about and it must be incredibly hard," said the 44-year-old Miura, whose goalscoring exploits during his heyday earned him the nickname "King Kazu".

"I just hope they can look after their health and hang in there."

Japan will play a J-League select side at Nagai Stadium in the March 29 match whose proceeds will be donated for relief efforts following the devastating quake and tsunami that has pulverized northeastern Japan.

The J-League side, who will be coached by Nagoya Grampus' Dragan Stojkovic, will be named Tuesday.

"I want to do anything I can to cooperate. The sooner the match takes place the better," Miura told reporters after FC Yokohama's first full training session in a week.

"I am a player so hopefully I can encourage people and cheer them up through soccer."
