Princess Soamsawali, Princess Bajrakitiyabha donate 3,000 relief packages on behalf of Princess Pa Foundation to Japan quake victims through Thai Foreign Ministry.

March 19, Two Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) aircraft carrying necessities for survivors of the quake and tsunami which hit Japan’s northeast coast last week arrived in that country early Saturday while another RTAF plane which also carries relief supplies is due to leave for Japan tonight, said a RTAF spokesman.

The spokesman said the C-130s arrived in Japan at about 9.40am Saturday, while another aircraft is scheduled to depart for Japan tonight. Earlier, a similar aircraft had flown there to deliver relief supplies to victims of the quake and tsunami which devastated Japan on March 11.

The relief supplies, donated by Their Royal Highnesses Princess Soamsawali and her daughter Princess Bajrakitiyabha through the Princess Pa Foundation of the Thai Red Cross Society, include rice, dry and canned foods, warm clothes, blankets, flashlights, medicines and potassium iodide pills.

The two C-130 aircraft will return to Thailand on Sunday night and bringing home with them Thai citizens living in that country who fear the catastrophic radiation leakage from the damaged nuclear plant. It is still unknown how many Thais would return home but each aircraft could accommodate about 100 people, said the spokesman.

Meanwhile, Thai Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said medical checks on Thais who had returned from Japan had found that they were not affected by the radiation release and it was unnecessary for them to consume potassium iodine pills. Ten out of about 1,000 Thais returned from Japan on Friday had sought medical checkups at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Mr Jurin said five psychiatrists dispatched by his ministry would leave for Japan on Saturday and join with Thai doctors who arrived earlier to assist Thais remaining there.
