On November 27th, Fuji TV announced that they are going to produce a modern-day adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s final novel ‘The Brothers Karamazov‘ starring actor Ichihara Hayato for the upcoming 2013 winter season.
Simply speaking, the drama is going to follow the lives of three brothers as they become the prime suspects in their father’s murder case. One by one, they are being driven into a corner until the whole truth finally comes to light. Aside from exploring the psychology of the three brothers, the whole story is also set within the context of a political chaos and a disparate society, similar to Dostoyevsky’s original.
Ichihara is going to play the second son, a nihilistic lawyer, which is a complete change to his usual hot-blooded roles such as in his breakthrough drama ‘ROOKIES‘ (TBS, 2008). He commented, “I’m grateful that I get to take part in the adaptation of the prime example of a perfect novel written by Dostoyevsky. I hope that everyone will enjoy the world view that goes beyond reason and common sense.”
The two actors Saito Takumi and Hayashi Kento are going to play the first-born and third son, respectively.
‘The Brothers Karamazov’ is scheduled to air every Saturday at 11:10 p.m. starting in January 2013.
