Korean director Kim Ji-hoon’s “Tower” has scored the second best number of admissions in the history of Korean cinema.
The domestic disaster film drew in 431,759 on the single day of Christmas, taking it straight to the top of the daily box office chart, according to the korean Box Office Information System of the Korean Film Council.
Starring veteran actor Seol Gyeong-gu and Son Ye-jin, the film’s opening score was a tad behind that of “The Thieves” (436,628) set in July of this year.
“Tower” revolves around firefighters who struggle to contain an inferno on Christmas day.
Director Kim’s “Sector 7” starring Ha Ji-won was considered to be a flop but it is expected that “Tower” will provide him with an opportunity to regain his name in the field of commercial films.
