Some of hottest stars in Korea have filed lawsuits against some plastic surgeons for using their names and photos under false pretences.

On January 7, the Seoul Central District Court received an official complaint from Jang Dong-gun, Song Hye-kyo, Kim Nam-gil, BoA, Girls’ Generation members Jessica and Tiffany.

The stars argued that a plastic surgery hospital located in Seoul should compensate them for a total of 120 million won [approximately 113,000 U.S. dollar] for using their images for commercial purposes without their permission.

“The hospital has uploaded our photos and names on its blog for commercial use without any permit,” they said.

“Their actions infringe on the stars` right to their own images and names, namely our right of publicity,” the celebrities stressed in the lawsuit.

"The right of publicity" is the right of a person to control the commercial use of his or her name, image or other aspects of one`s identity.

In December of 2012, actress Soo-ae and some members of Wonder Girls and Girls Generation also filed a lawsuit demanding 207 million won [about 270,000 U.S. dollars] in damages for personality rights infringement against a dentist’s office located in Seoul.
