“Man on the Edge,” a comedy starring actor Park Shin-yang, has debuted at the number one spot on the weekend box office chart, edging out home-grown blockbuster “Tower.”

The brand-new farce was the most-watched movie during the weekend between January 11 and 13 after earning 796,774 admissions, Korean Box Office information System [KOBIS] showed on Monday.

Helmed by director Jo Jin-kyu of mega-hit comic “The Wife is the Gang Leader,” “Man on the Edge” centers around Gwang-ho, a gangster who suddenly gets possessed with a spirit and is forced to become a shaman.

Sitting at No. 2 is “Tower,” a disaster film starring Seol Gyeong-gu, Kim Sang-kyung and Son Ye-jin. The star-packed movie drew in 512,578 moviegoers last weekend.

“Les Miserables,” an epic drama based on the 1862 French novel of the same title by Victor Hugo, drew in 351,263 admissions during the same period.

While Ang Lee’s fantasy adventure “Life of Pi” ranked at the fourth place by attracting 246,804 people, “Cloud Atlas” of Wachowski siblings and Tom Tykwer debuted at No. 5 with 213,586 tickets sold.

Other notable films in top ten include brand-new animation movie “The Reef 2” High Tide,” home-grown human drama “My Little Hero,” melodrama “Love 911,” U.S. animated movie “Wreck-It Ralph” and South Africa-United States animation “Zambezia.”
