2012 Korean box office smash “The Thieves” has proved its great popularity with local TV subscribers.

The Korean blockbuster is set to be crowned the best film at the 2012 IPTV and Digital Cable TV Film Awards ceremony at a hotel in Seoul, Korea on January 24, Korean Film Council [KOFIC] announced Wednesday.

At the ceremony, local IPTV companies, in charge of handling a total of some 11.4 million paying TV subscribing households, are to promise their participation in systemizing the online movie market and vitalizing the market with KOFIC.

Korean movies such as “The Concubine,” “Architecture 101,” “Punch” and “The Great Heist” hold nine positions out of the top ten of most-viewed list with the only Hollywood film being the super-hero movie “The Avengers.”

KOFIC explained that this shows Korean cinemagoers preference toward Korean films to foreign ones when watching films outside the theater and when watching films as families rather than as individuals.
