Multinational idol group U-Kiss members will play the lead roles in a 24-episode series which set to commence airing on Channel 9, Thailand’s government-run broadcasting station
“Autumn Destiny” starring Eli and Ki-bum from U-Kiss, and Ryan from Paran, all represented by the same agency, will start airing on January 16.
Also in the drama is Mario Maurer, Thailand’s star actor and a former member of an idol group who will be the Thai counterpart for U-Kiss members. This will be the first Thai drama produced in Korea. 80% of the drama was filmed last autumn in Jeonju, Jeonbuk of Korea.
The press conference was held to announce the production plan on January 6 at the Future Center in Bangkok. The conference was at the center of attention with participation of over 500 local media and drama production professionals due to the massive production cost of over 1 billion won and the casting of the Korean idol group.
The drama is about a young man (played by Mario) suffering all sorts of difficulties in the process of finding his Korean father who returned to Korea, leaving him behind in Taiwan. Eli is a rival of Mario in the drama. Ki-bum plays a friend of Mario’s. And Ryan plays the first love of a woman who Mario loves.
An official from 411 Entertainment, the Thai production company for the drama said, “The popularity of Korean idol groups is sharply rising in Thailand due to Nichkhun , a member of the popular Korean idol group 2PM. Since the drama will be set in Hanok Village, a traditional Korean folk village located in Jeonju, it will further arouse interest in Korean culture among Thai viewers.”
