Kim So-yeon is taking the lead in a new SBS drama called Prosecutor Mata Hari, which comes to us from the writer-director pair behind Brilliant Legacy. (PD Jin Hyuk also directed the gorgeous historical series Painter of the Wind and the slick celebrity-packed On Air, while writer So Hyun-kyung also wrote How Much Love.)
Kim plays Ma Hye-ri, a woman with excellent focus and memorization skills which allow her to pass the law exam, but because she dislikes hard work, she’s far from displaying the sense of justice and duty that befits a prosecutor. She’d rather be off wearing pretty clothes or finding the latest designer bags. Hye-ri thinks she’s unsuited for her profession, but as she experiences conflicts with her senior prosecutors and encounters all sorts of cases, she gradually taps in to her talent as a prosecutor.
She’ll be showing off an entirely different side to her previous role as the badass North Korean spy in last year’s IRIS; Hye-ri is described as cute and lovable. Kim said of her role, “Ma Hye-ri isn’t just someone who wants to look pretty on the outside, but she also has pain on the inside. As the drama progresses, I’ll show her gradually maturing into a prosecutor, which I’m personally really looking forward to.”
Prosecutor Mata Hari will be a Wednesday-Thursday drama that airs in April.
