[News] Jung Ryu-won cast in new drama.

Jung Ryu-won has confirmed her return to television in the upcoming KBS drama Sonagi, or Shower, to air in the spring. It’ll be her first drama in two years, since her much-hyped fusion-sageuk drama Ja Myung Go painfully flopped (reviews weren’t bad but the drama got low ratings comparative to its huge budget, and was cut 11 episodes).

I’d heard rumors of Jung’s possible casting back when Han Ji-min (Cain & Abel) was cast, but no official word till now. It seems the story has undergone changes since that last report, as well as a title change (it was originally called Love, Hurt, and Showers).

In addition to the two actresses, the drama is drawing buzz for its star writer, Noh Hee-kyung (The World They Live In, Goodbye Solo), who’s well-known for her adeptness with language as well as her insightful, contemplative style. In a departure from the drama-production norm, all scripts will be completed before the series premieres.

The drama focuses on the lives of three sisters who come back (one supposes that means from the big city) to live in their rural hometown. Jung will play an aspiring film director with a lively personality, who is the eldest of the three. Not much to go on, detail-wise, but given its writer I think we can expect a series that thoughtfully explores relationships and human nature, and acts as something of a character study.

Meanwhile, Jung also has a movie release in her near future, Sleeping With the Enemy co-starring Kim Joo-hyuk. It’ll premiere in April 2011, one month after the drama is planned to broadcast.
