Actor Lee Bum-soo has been cast as one of the male leads in the sequel to KBS’ 2009 blockbuster drama "IRIS."

Production company Taewon Entertainment said in a press release Thursday that Lee has signed on for his role in upcoming blockbuster “IRIS 2,” expected to air in the first half of next year.

The "Salaryman, Cho Han Ji" star will take the role of a North Korea’s secret agent, opposite actor Jang Hyuk.

The action-packed drama has already been creating a big buzz with the ensemble cast of famed stars here, such as Daniel Henney, Kim Seung-woo, Kim Min-jong, Lee Da-hae, MBLAQ’s Lee Joon and Kara’s Kang Ji-young.

Penned by scriptwriter Jo Kyu-won of popular blockbusters “IRIS” and “Poseidon” (KBS2, 2011), its shooting will begin next month.

In the meantime, the firm is in negotiation with local broadcasters to decide which channel will air the new action drama.
