Main cast :
Jessica Hsuan as Niohuru Yee-lan (鈕祜祿·伊蘭), the Consort Tsuen (全妃皇贵妃) — the Do-kwong Emperor's favourite consort and childhood crush. She was once married to Do-kwong's older brother Min-yi; however, he went missing after he went to control a rebellion in Northwest China a few months after their marriage. Yee-lan is forced to become a human sacrifice for Mini-yi's funeral ceremony by the orders of Empress Dowager Kung-chee, who sees Yee-lan as unfortunate and cursed. Do-kwong saves Yee-lan from her death and announces that he will take her hand in marriage. Although Yee-lan agrees to become his consort, she still holds the belief that Min-yi is alive, and once escaped palace grounds to search for him. Yee-lan eventually falls in love with Do-kwong, who honoured her as an individual and wife.

Myolie Wu as Tunggiya Yuen-yuen (佟佳·沅宛), the Empress Consort Hao-sun (孝慎皇后) — Do-kwong's first empress consort and Yee-lan's main rival. Her coronation as Empress is disrupted by Do-kwong when he goes to save Yee-lan from burial. Jealous of Do-kwong's favouritism towards Yee-lan, and a fear of losing her title as Empress, Yuen-yuen attempts to strip Yee-lan from power by dispatching a spy to Yee-lan's palace chamber. Yuen-yuen becomes desperate to conceive a son and is later deposed of her title as Empress after Do-kwong discovers her illicit affair with Min-yan.

Sunny Chan as the Do-kwong Emperor (道光帝) — the benevolent Qing Dynasty emperor who naturally became the successor due to the death of his older brother, Min-yi. He has had a crush on Yee-lan since youth, but because Yee-lan and Min-yi were in love, he decided to forgo his pursuits. Do-kwong interrupts Yuen-yuen's Empress coronation in order to save Yee-lan from her burial, and soon announces to take her hand in marriage, much to the dismay of Yuen-yuen and Kung-chee. Do-kwong is extremely close to his brothers and muses that if Min-yi hadn't died, he would have been crowned instead.

Min-yan extremely respects his older brother and purposefully presents himself in a much harsher and militaristic image in court to highlight Do-kwong's more sincere and benevolent image. Min-yan was Yuen-yuen's lover before she married Do-kwong. Though he still harbours feelings for her, Min-yan is disgusted by Yuen-yuen's calculating and cunning schemes for power. Yuen-yuen later seduces Min-yan, and he sires a son with her. Influenced by Kung-chee and Yuen-yuen, Min-yan begins to develop a growing dissent towards Do-kwong's rule, and ultimately decides to overthrow him.

Gigi Wong as Empress Dowager Kung-chee (恭慈皇太后) — Do-kwong's stepmother and Min-yan's mother. Although Do-kwong is not her biological son, he is the most filial. Kung-chee believes Yee-lan is creating tension between her and Do-kwong, and finds her power in court to be weakening. She later convinces Min-yan to start a coup to overthrow Do-kwong.

Nancy Wu as Choi-lam (彩藍) — born Borjigit Ching-yu (博爾濟吉特·静瑜), the maiden spy Yuen-yuen sennds to spy on Yee-lan. Choi-lam later changes her loyalty to serve Yee-lan, but is unhappy with her ambiguous relationship with her two masters. Netizens spotted a water bottle in TVB's anniversary series Curse of the Royal Harem (CRH). In episode 19, the scene was about Sunny Chan's role as Emperor Guangxi (Do Gwong) discussing business with the imperial officials, but when the camera zoomed out, an empty water bottle was seen sitting on the emperor's desk. Netizens screen captured the goof, posted on discussion forums and ridiculed TVB for playing with 'time travel'. Netizens also made a spoof by putting the caption, "TVB is amazing" underneath the screencap to further ridicule TVB.

Netizens madly criticized TVB for making another sloppy production. Netizens speculated that someone finished the bottle and just conveniently placed it on the set, but none of the artists or staff noticed. Even when the crew were editing the scenes, still no one spotted the mistake, seriously careless! One Netizen joked and wondered if this was a marketing technique by the sponsor.

Reporters contacted CRH's producer Chong Wai Kin, he expressed he was notified about the mistake earlier this morning. Then he immediately went back to rewatch the original. Producer Chong said: "We often complete the scenes in 1 take. Perhaps we accidentally placed the cut camera shots back into the scene. I'm not sure if if it's a human or computer error. We are responsible for this, and in the future, we will review the series a few more times to ensure there are no errors before broadcasting." He also expressed his gratitude to the person who spotted the mistake and for their support.

Kim Hyun Joong and his entertainment company, Key East, managed to retract the ban on one of his tracks, “Please“.

The song, which was a part of his “Break Down” solo album, had been banned by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (“MOGEF“) for being “harmful media to the youth”.

In it’s overturning decision, the courts proclaimed that “In books, movies, and dramas permitted for teenage viewing, there are often scenes of drinking and smoking to quell sadness. In the interest of maintaining freedom of speech, it must also be allowed in popular music. It cannot be assumed that just because it is there, it promotes drinking or smoking.”

The MOGEF had banned the song earlier in the year for lyrics such as “Through the expanding cigarette smoke” and “Because I’m drunk”.

The court struck down MOGEF’s reasoning, saying, “Taking the lyrics in context of the entire song, the phrases are just a way to express the horrible emotions after breaking up with a lover, not encouraging drinking or smoking.”

Parisians were offered a glimpse into the royal culture of the Chosun Dynasty (1392-1910) as part of Korea-France Week at the InterContinental Hotel Paris on Tuesday night (local time).

A Chosun royal wedding ceremony was reenacted with the iconic images of Notre Dame and Montmartre in the background. Based on relevant records from the Oegyujanggak royal archives, the reenactment included the queen's installation, her official entrance into the palace, and the first night of wedding celebrations. The archives were returned to Korea this April, some 145 years after France looted them in a botched invasion.

The show began with a performance on the gayageum (12-stringed zither) by Ewha Womans University Professor Moon Jae-suk. It continued with some of the videos of artist Lee Lee-nam, which showed a fusion of traditional Korean landscape paintings and the works of great French painters.

To ensure the performances were as authentic as possible, the Korean Royal Costume Research Institute designed and produced the royal attire based on the dynasty's royal texts.

A fashion show featuring traditional Korean royal costumes was also included in the line-up of events, with Miss Korea pageant winner Lee Honey, who is Prof. Moon's daughter, playing the role of a former queen. French models also took to the catwalk to present designers' modern interpretations of ancient Korean clothing.

The event demonstrated the burgeoning interest in Korean culture and history in Europe amid the swelling popularity of K-pop overseas, said Lee Bae-yong, chairwoman of the Presidential Council on National Branding.

FTV and GTV’s “In Time With You” starring Ariel Lin, Chen Bo-Lin, and Sunny Wang scored 3.54% in ratings last weekend (approximately 2 million and 41 thousand viewers). Although it was still behind TTV and SETTV’s “Office Girls'” 5.05% (approx. 2 million 762 thousand viewers), it was the closest that it had ever come to rivaling first place.

However, many sharp-eyed netizens spotted some flaws in the drama. Sunny was in a plane accident and Ariel immediately flew to Singapore to see him. Netizens made fun that the speed it took for her to get to her destination was unreasonably fast: “1 second to Singapore”, “It’s Doraemon’s Anywhere Door”. GTV explained that some scenes were edited for better pacing in the drama.

Netizens also believed that the plane landed in Malaysia, yet Ariel flew to the Singapore airport to embrace him with love. GTV pointed out that the drama did not specifically state where Sunny was, so it was probably somewhere near Singapore. GTV added that the main purpose was to increase suspense -- Chen Bo-Lin seeing Ariel and Sunny hugging sweetly with his own eyes.

Han Ga-in and Uhm Tae-woong in their new romantic melo film, Introduction to Architecture, along with their younger counterparts, played by Suzy (Dream High) and Lee Jae-hoon (The Front Line). They actually did a pretty great job in casting for resemblance in the younger actors, to make the connection immediate, and not the usual case of oh, is that who he’s supposed to be?

The film is about an architect, played by Uhm Tae-woong, whose first love shows up one day to ask him to build her a house. She asks for her old house to be rebuilt — the one from her childhood, and the stills come from a scene where they go to Jeju Island to see the original house, and then memories of their youth come flooding back.

The title comes from their first meeting as college students, in an Introduction to Architecture class, where the hero had promised to build the heroine a house one day. Aw, how cute.

If Suzy and Lee Jae-hoon can deliver on the flashback sequences (of which I’m assuming there are many, based on the story), it might be a sweet throwback kind of love story, like Winter Sonata minus all the amnesia-fauxcest-terminal-illness. At least I certainly hope so. Yeesh. I’m pretty sure if memory serves, there was an architect’s story buried under that other stuff, somewhere deep down.

Directing is PD Lee Yong-ju (Memories of Murder, Possessed). Introduction to Architecture is almost halfway through principal photography and plans to release early next year.
