[News] Apichatpong Weerasethakul to direct 'Korea's fifth Seoul Cinema Digital (CINDI) film festival (CINDI)' Trailer.

Celebrated Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul will be directing the offical trailer for Korea's fifth Seoul Cinema Digital (CINDI) film festival.

The news came on Wednesday through the official website of CINDI, an annual event presenting digital cinema, which this year is set to kick off its week-long festivities on August 17.

This is not the first time he will participate in CINDI -- his 2010 Cannes Palme d'Or award-winning pic "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" was the opening film of last year's CINDI and he also served as a member of its competitive Red Chameleon judge panel.

"With my special love of CINDI and desire, I’ll do my utmost to make the trailer," Weerasethakul was quoted as saying of his thoughts on getting to work on the project.

CINDI consists of two main categories: two competition sections including the Butterfly for Korean films only and the Asian Competition for 15 feature films by Asian filmmakers with experience of directing less than three full-length projects.

The Asian Competition then awards four awards -- the Red Chameleon Award selected by a jury consisted of internationally renowned directors, actors and film staff members, the Blue Chameleon Award by internationally well-known film critics, film journalists and film festival programmers, the Green Chameleon Award by Korean film critics and journalists and the White Chameleon Award by the CINDIphile (audience).

Three or less winners take the Butterfly award, also handed to filmmakers with over one but less than three films directed under their name.

세계적인 영화감독 아피찻퐁 위라세타쿤이 제5회 시네마디지털서울영화제(이하 CINDI 영화제)의 공식 트레일러의 연출을 맡았다.

아피찻퐁 위라세타쿤은 <엉를 분미>로 칸국제영화제 황금종려상을 수상했던 명감독. 그는 특히 CINDI 영화제와 남다른 인연을 갖고 있다. 지난해 <엉클 분미>의 개막작 상영을 위해 영화제를 직접 찾았고, 레드카멜레온 부문 심사위원 나서기도 했다.

감독은 차기작 촬영으로 바쁜 일정에도 불구, 이번 트레일러 작업에 몰두했던 것으로 알려졌다. 그는 “특별한 CINDI 영화제에 대한 최고의 염원을 담아, 최선을 다해 트레일러를 제작하겠다”고 전하기도 했다.

시네마디지털서울(CinDi) 개막작인 영화 '엉클 분미' 연출을 맡은 태국의 아피찻퐁 위라세타쿤(Apichatpong Weerasethakul) 감독. 한편, 올해 CINDI 영화제는 오는 8월 17일부터 23일까지 CGV압구정에서 개최된다.
