Joo Jin-mo will appear in famed director Kwak Kyung-taek's next movie, according to his agency on Thursday.
An official with JM Company told 10Asia over the phone that Joo will play an elite North Korean officer in the film titled "Enemy" (translated title).
"The two had talked about the project for a long time so although Joo has yet to sign an official contract, he has made a verbal promise to appear in the movie," the official explained.
"As long as there are no particular changes, he will appear in the movie which is set to go into shoot starting December," added the official.
The movie, set to be a 10 billion won project, will tell about a former South Korean Underwater Demolition Team agent who will face up to a North Korean agent who takes over a major stadium in Korea's second largest city of Busan.
Actor Cha Seung-won has been offered the role of the South Korean agent but will make a decision at a later time.
Born Park Jin-tae, Joo, 37, has appeared in numerous films and dramas since his debut in 1999, including “Fashion 70s” (SBS, 2005), 200 Pound Beauty” (2006) and “A Frozen Flower” (2008).
He became acquainted with director Kwak after starring in his 2007 movie "A Love" opposite actress Park Si-yeon.
Most recently, Joo finished shooting historical film "Coffee" (tentative title) in which he plays a brilliant swindler and a double spy opposite actress Kim So-yeon.
