‘욘사마’ 배용준의 ‘태왕사신기’가 일본에서도 최고의 기대작으로 꼽히고 있는 가운데 일본 출판가에는 때 아닌 ‘고구려붐’이 일고 있다.

오는 12월 일본내 방송예정인 태왕사신기와 관련해 서점가에는 이미 고구려 역사와 문화를 다룬 일역판 고구려 역사서 등이 쏟아지고 있다.

제주도에서 태왕사신기의 촬영이 한창이던 지난 3월에는 고구려시대부터 조선시대까지의 역사를 풀이한 ‘광개토대왕의 진짜얼굴’(?開土王の素顔)이 간행되었으며 태왕사신기의 기획의도와 배경역사를 담은 ‘태왕사신기 공식예습북’(太王四神記 公式予習BOOK)도 나왔다.

또 광개토대왕의 생애와 업적을 상세히 다룬 ‘고구려호태왕’(高句麗好太王)도 상·중·하 시리즈로 출판되어 태왕사신기에 대한 일본인들의 궁금증을 해소해주고 있다. 아울러 태왕사신기 일본판 공식홈페이지(nifty.com/taiousijinki)에서도 고조선시대의 환웅 이야기와 고구려의 시조 동명성왕에 대해서도 상세히 설명해 극의 이해를 돕고있다.

아마존을 비롯한 유명 인터넷쇼핑몰에서는 고구려호태왕이 높은 네티즌 추천수를 받으며 좋은 반응을 얻고 있다.

네티즌 ‘fuyuka’는 자신의 블로그에 “광개토대왕에 대한 기초지식을 머리에 넣어두어야 태왕사신기를 더욱 재미있게 볼 수 있을 것”이라며 “배용준이 아니었으면 몰랐을 고구려역사지만 3~4일 전부터 본격적으로 공부를 시작했다.”고 밝혔다.

이어 “책에는 ‘광개토대왕은 민중을 고통스럽게 한 군주와는 달리 무익한 전쟁을 일으키지 않는 현명한 왕이었다’고 설명돼 있었다.”며 “앞으로도 장소를 불문하고 갖고 다니면서 공부할 계획”이라고 덧붙였다.
